So we pulled a U-turn to come back & check it out. I'm so glad we did. What a gem! Pun intended! This cute lil store has everything - crystals, earrings, bracelets, rings, figurines, sculptures, glassware, trinkets, donuts, fun-flavored lattes, goats, a resident kitty named Callie who will make you fall in love with her... The women running the shop were so kind. They fueled us up with coffee (delicious iced lattes - who knew?!) & answered all of our questions about gems, jewelry, ring sizes, Callie the cat, etc. & were so gracious. The prices were so reasonable, too. I purchased two gorgeous sterling silver rings with malachite stones in them for a whopping total of $50. My only regret is not having enough space to buy more trinkets. We were on motorcycles with very limited bag space. Would I come back? ABSOLUTELY. We came to Panguitch with a group of 15-20 friends and family who are all staying in the same rental for a week while we tour the parks. We were looking for a place to take the group for some ice cream and found out the Gem is a working theatre as well. It is the end of season, however, and my wife and I learned that we just happened to stop in on the last hours of the very last day so we wouldn't be able to bring the gang. So glad we stopped to check it out. So instead of bringing the crew over to the ice cream we ended up buying a bunch of the ice cream stock and bars and chocolates to bring home for the following evening's dessert. Last night we gathered for dessert after dinner and told them the story of this great place and even greater interaction. They were rapt with attention as we described the setting, the convo, and the taste testing of some very interesting and delectable treats. Ice cream flavors like "Blue Goggles, "Guava, Passionfruit, and even Tomarillo" were a hit- many explaining it was the best ice cream they've had. The chocolate-dipped ice cream bars really stood out. They come in both dark and light chocolate and are layered with caramel inside. The biggest surprise about them is that the outside is sprinkled with popped quinoa. Who knew? What a genius combination. SO GOOD!! They also make their own chocolates and those were all to die for. Wish I had this place and this guy a little closer to home in Chico, Ca but I guess we'll have to make a detour out this way once the season opens back up again and plan on taking in a movie and popcorn and then raid the ice cream again. The lunch menu is pretty limited--sandwiches, salads, burgers, soup, and a few appetizers. We started with the Zucchini Sticks ($14) and also ordered the Patty Melt with fries. The food was okay, but honestly, nothing really stood out. Everything was pretty plain and could have used a little more seasoning. The patty melt came with two little packets of mayonnaise, which gave me a bit of a fast-food flashback. I'm used to seeing mayo packets at a drive-thru, not necessarily arriving with my lunch at a sit-down restaurant. On the plus side, the service was good, and the cabin-like atmosphere was comfortable. Overall, it's a decent option when you're in the area and hungry, but I wouldn't go out of my way for the food.
