Empty dishes

Food on a moving conveyer belt? A recipe for eating to much? Maybe so. I normally eat takeaway from Yo and have only sat in a handful of times, this is really just down to being scared if eating everything! As this was Austen M's first time we would go all out! It was blue Monday so all dishes were £2.50. We ordered the salmon firecracker rice, Katsu chicken curry, chilli Squid, duck parcels and some sort of beef thing ( sorry for the lack of names) all small portions but means you can get more dishes! Whooho! All you can drink fizzy or still water with little taps at your table! We didn't take anything off the belt as it was late at night and best to order fresh!! If you haven't been to Yo then I would highly recommend you do soon.

It's Yo Sushi. I've been dozens of times. It's never the best quality, but it's always enough to satisfy my sushi cravings and it's usually super convenient. I still love the carousel of sushi and other assorted dishes. And if something isn't there they are quite happy and prompt to make it up for you. If you get the basic, cheep sushi like some avocado or cucumber maki then the price is really reasonable. But if you start ordering their more interesting sushi or curries then the price really starts adding up. We tend to not go for aaaages then one afternoon have a sushi binge :P Which may be why I feel it's a tad pricey. I never have any problems with the food, the staff are hit or miss, and it's usually quite busy. But over all it suits it's purpose and I've been very thankful for it at times!

I really want to love Yo Sushi 5-stars worth. I love the idea, the branding and I feel like it should be a really fun experience. But this Yo Sushi seems to be a little flat. I hadn't been back since my last review but after a morning of reading Yelp-sushi reviews, I needed some sushi in my face. I ordered three dishes (and miso): chicken katsu curry, oiishi salmon bun and dragon rolls. I hate it when I order food from the menu and they give me the conveyor belt food - I'd prefer it was made fresh. The dragon rolls were kind of meh to be honest - especially compared to the ones at Pickled Ginger last week. The katsu curry was pretty much a bowl of curry sauce over rice with the chicken on top. Way too much curry sauce as well, so the all the rice tasted like curry sauce whereas I prefer it separate. Finally, the oiishi bun was pretty good and I'd get these again. What I really wanted to try was the Japple special they have on just now - hot apple and vanilla gyozas, with black sesame ice cream in a crisp waffle cone, topped off with raspberry crumble and served with salted miso caramel sauce. It sounds EPIC. So all up - I do quite like the food here, it is just a bit hit-or-miss sometimes. For £13 it wasn't a bad lunch. Note: they now charge for water. WATER. The taps at your table! That is just madness. You have to pay £1.20 for still/sparkling and it is unlimited. But still, paying for water from a tap, how many people actually do that?!

I did consider a 5-star review, I really enjoyed my eating experience here, and if it had been more enclosed with some background music and you forgot you were plonked in the middle of a shopping centre I might have bumped it up. This was my first visit to a Yo Sushi, I always felt a bit put off my the conveyor belt idea. In the end we were able to order our food from the server like you would in most other places. I was there to host a vegan meetup and I'd gotten there first, and spent a few minutes checking the vegan options online and circling the vegan options on the paper menu/placemat. I figured this would make it easier for the other guests. I kept hearing some kind of electronic voice... I don't if it was to grab the attention of a staff member as it disappeared a bit later, and it's probably not the sort of place people sit alone to wait for people coming from afar! Also, my arm bumped into dishes as they passed by on the belt. Again, maybe not a usual place where six grown adults will eat together. :s We chose there as instead of selected dishes being reduced to £2.70 only on a selected one (or is it two now?) weekday they were now offering this 'Blue Plate' discount deal Mon-Fri. It was also advertised on the 'Veganuary' website (the Go Vegan for January campaign), that's had to be a good sign! Free refills on the green tea appealed, and when everyone else arrived (six people just fit neatly to a booth!) I pressed the red button on the table to call the server and we ordered drinks and food. We were also offered their vegan menu. Duh to me! I didn't realise they'd have this! (I think they also have a separate gluten free one, too). It was £2.70 for three inari sushi pockets (a blue plate) which is the best value I've seen for this dish, one of my favourites! £1.90 for the cucumber maki (green plate), and £2.70 for the vegetable yakisoba - I think this one is usually a little more expensive, an orange plate. All in for the three dishes and the green teas it was £9, which I thought was really good. We also got given two cards each with an offer of 'buy two blue plates get one free' which we can use before Jan 29th, in any branch. Unlike their other Glasgow branches in Braehead and the city centre, they don't have the tofu katsu curry or the pumpkin katsu curry because they only have one fryer and they use that for frying meat products. Aha! That's definitely worth a drop in rating. I need to visit another branch and see if I find that one 5-star worthy.

This is a much smaller branch of Yo Sushi than the one in the city centre but the food is still pretty delicious, if a little expensive. Quick tip: if you join the Yo Sushi mailing list then they often send you promotion vouchers, last month if you printed off your e-mail with your unique promotion code then you got 40% off everything on the belt. You can't say fairer than that! I joined the mailing list last August and have since had two of these promotions sent straight to my inbox so it's definitely worth signing up! In a way Yo Sushi is a little bit gimmicky but the food is very good and when you're getting 40% off I really can't complain. My favourite thing off the belt has to be the Dorayaki, which are special Japanese pancakes wrapped around a sweet custard like filling with tart raspberry sauce, I was whipping them off the conveyer belt like they were going out of fashion. They taste so good that I even bought some from the take away section to feast on when I got home. Mmm... I can also recommend the squiggly squid sushi and the seaweed salad, delish!

This is easily my fav yo sushi, plenty of room, more booth selection than others in Glasgow Food is as you expect from a chain, tastes the same as any other yo sushi The team are friendly and helpful if not a little understaffed at times Go here about 3-4 times a month, having a larger appetite the blue Monday's offer a decent saving on an expensive lunch/dinner Anyway that's all I have to say...... Have to get dressed I'm going here in an hour

Overpriced, and pretty sub-par standard of food compared to the other Japanese places in town.

One of our adults was celebrating his…read morebirthday and since it was our first time in Glasgow we went to Yelp to help find a good place to eat. We stumbled upon this location after looking for a place near our AirBnB for some Sushi. We tried to reserve a table online via their website but it didn't work. So we decided to instead walk a mile to their restaurant to see if we could get a table - or even sit outside if we had to - knowing there would probably be a bit of a wait. When we got there I entered the restaurant with my son who is 3 in a stroller and immediately was greeted by a Redheaded woman who smiled at me like I had 3 heads. I then asked kindly for their availability and explained my situation and the woman scoffed at me - as if I was stupid to even ask the question - to which she then turned her iPad around and showed a list of Reservations. I actually managed to point to my reservation that via the website had not seemed to schedule correctly - to which she aggressively said "well there's nothing we can do'. Right as I turned to leave the restaurant the rest of my party trickles in and asks if we can eat outside - One of the kind waitresses said "sure" to which she set us up outside. We ordered 3 bottles of Sake and they were £24 for 300ml bottles. We had hoped that they might be worth the price but unfortunately they weren't much better than what you can get from a CoOp with a liquor license. The Shrimp Ramen was fantastic and the sushi tasted great but was really overpriced for the quantity which they give you. Overall I totally get the lack of vacancy for a popular spot - but being scoffed at as you gently inquire about availability was really off putting. Even eating there despite it was difficult - and the alcohol/sushi being overpriced. Would not recommend. The sushi quality and the waitresses efforts are the only reason it's not 1/5.

Service is pretty poor. I hasten to add not the fault of the waitress but the cooks. I found myself…read moresitting waiting for my meal whilst my companion was eating away. When you arrive, you are met with what I can only describe as a manky curtain - something that would normally really annoy me, but I totally forgive them.. Once you get past that you're presented with a surprisingly large, and very sleekly decked out, restaurant. There's all sorts of deals on here for bento boxes and lunch deals. But the full menu is also very reasonably priced. I had the ramen Chilli chicken. And oh my God! It was easily the best I've ever had. Very, very spicy. But sweet. And full of peppers and perfectly cooked chicken. My friend had the chicken katsu curry - and again, said it was the best he'd had. The staff were super cheery and really helpful. For 2 mains and 2 cokes the bill came to less than £24. I sinceriously can't wait to go back for more.

This was one of the first restaurants I dined at in Glasgow with my now husband after our fateful meeting in Japan, so it is very special to the both of us. I'd hopped on a plane to the other side of the world to visit a man I'd known for 14 days, fell in love and moved here. We've returned here loads of times since then, but I haven't been to Nanakusa for nearly a year. In my endless quest of eating out as many places in Glasgow as possible, sometimes the real gems get left behind for the new and exciting places. I was so glad to return last night for a UYE and see that nothing has changed since I first fell in love with Nanakusa (I was already in love with my husband by the time we ate here!) Now, Nanakusa. It does Japanese food, and it does it really well (see the aforementioned reference to meeting my husband in Japan!). I really love sashimi and there aren't enough places in Glasgow that I can eat it, so I always get a portion when I eat here. I also love takoyaki (octopus balls) and can't resist them here. I've tried them elsewhere but Nanakusa's are the best. The service is always friendly, smiling and helpful. It was a little slow last night but there were only two people working the whole restaurant, but none of us were in a particular hurry. I had a small glass of rosé with my meal and they also have a selection of saké and plum wines, as well as Japanese beers for that really authentic taste. The food arrived quickly and as soon as it was ready. Two people had ordered bento boxes and these arrived about 5 minutes after everything else. The waiter seemed really conscious of this and kept coming over which was a nice touch. I loved all my dishes, the takoyaki and salmon sashimi and I also had the chicken teriyaki. Sides like rice and noodles are optional which is great if you're all about the protein. Downsides? As I said, service was a bit slow. I'm also not a big fan of the lighting (the wall panels change colour) as it makes it hard to take nice food photos! Haha! Bench seating can be difficult to navigate getting in and out of gracefully. None of these points are worthy of a star deduction in my mind though as the food is so damn good, I can excuse it all. Thanks Nanakusa for being just as amazing as you were 4 years ago.
