This used to be the best Chinese restaurant for miles, although small and the tables packed very close together, the car park at best takes 6 cars and you were always in danger of having to squeeze into you car afterwards you knew you were guaranteed one of the best meals out for a reasonable price.
I have been going to this restaurant probably 5 times a year for the last 10 years. I first went here with friends and was amazed at the size (huge) of the portions and the superb quality of the food. Hence I kept going back.
My last meal in here was a year ago and it hasn't changed since. I believe they changed their chefs. Although you couldn't fault the portion size the meals became almost inedible. Fatty, greasy and basically tasting the same no matter what you ordered. The staff are still their usual happy and attentive and still have a total look of harassment on their faces on a saturday night even though now the place is only half full. The only thing passable which hasn't changed is their Chicken Noodle soup which I'm afraid to say looks and tastes very suspiciously like the packet Chicken Noodle soup I recently purchased from the Chinese cash and carry supermarket in Maryhill. Orchid Lane's soup has a few more chopped up spring onions in it but it is lovely but not enough of a reason to keep going back when i can get the same soup from the Chinese supermarket.
I feel sorry for them as this was a great little restaurant and you always had to book, now you don't need to. The toilets are the same as ever, tired but clean and functional, the same as the decor.
For the money you'd spend here you'd be better going up the road to the all you can eat Chinese buffet up the road. read more
