It's ok sushi. The dining area is descent. They should get a fly fan by the door so that flies/pests can not enter the dining space.

Unfortunately really gross. My expectations weren't that high as its a strip mall Japanese place, but we managed to be let down beyond expectation. The chicken in the chicken teriyaki was inedible and tasted like it'd been microwaved or was that precooked frozen stuff. Cooked sushi here is really good. On various visits, I have also tried the teriyaki and the sashimi, but neither of those impressed any more than Costco sushi. With that in mind, I would be prepared to spend $15 on a couple of rolls when coming here. 3 stars for really good cooked sushi and a very lackluster remainder of their menu. read more

Fast, convenient and decent. If you just want a quick fix of rolls, this is the place. Rolls are medium size compared to others, not massive where you have to eat it in multiple bites. This is not the best sushi but for the price and location, it's not bad. My husband and I ordered some sushi, tempura and teriyaki chicken to go last night just before closing (open 'til 9pm, which was later than most sushi places in the vicinity.) Yes to sushi, no to chicken teriyaki. Had lunch with a friend who got the chicken teriyaki lunch special. The chicken was mushy, like it disintegrated if you pressed a piece between your fingers. The sushi is fresh enough and it's cheap enough to be A-OK. Also had a ramen bowl and it was huge, hot and very tasty. I appreciate the pictures of the rolls on the wall with color cranes to indicate what's raw and spicy. There was fruit flies everywhere. Love this spot! I adore the Asian music videos they have playing on the tv at all times. They have all the rolls nicely photographed and plastered all over the wall when you walk in. After getting lost in the glory and drooling at pictures you walk up to the counter where a very sweet cashier will take your order. I've never had a bad roll here. In fact they are more creative with their rolls than most places around the bay. The nacho roll is a must try. Theu also have a very nice selection of baked rolls for those who don't like raw fish. I can't thank them enough for that. They also have a really big side salad and their dressing is really good. I never skip the salad here. After a long day at Children's Fairyland in Oakland, we stopped in Yo Sushi for a late lunch. There wasn't much of a crowd, but we were outside of the lunch hour. As we walked in, we saw some pretty good deals posted up near the register. We ordered enough sushi rolls to feed 5 of us. I got takeout from this place and was happy with it. If you like bargain-priced creative sushi, you'll probably like this place (I do). While the fish isn't top quality the rolls are pretty delicious. I enjoyed the cherry blossom roll and the awesome roll quite a bit, and thought they were very reasonable at about $9 each. Boyfriend and I decided to try this place out seeing it had one $ aka prices were good, and it also had 4 stars. He got their salmon sashimi and blossom roll and I got the lion king and bush roll. The sashimi was so fresh and tasty and the slices were thick and plenty for one order compared to usual sushi places. The lion king was also really good. But I wasn't a fan of the bush roll which was just a salmon and avocado roll deep fried. They put too much of the sweet soy sauce on top, for my liking. Decent fish quality, efficient service, large menu (if a bit overwhelming) but the rice was overcooked and mushed together which gave the sushi rolls a bit gummy texture. My go-to sushi place when I am on the go. The have happy hour from 2-6 and the rolls are all solid rolls. I also like that they have pictures on the wall to help you decide. The Yo Nachos are out of this world! And my favorite roll is the Lemon Salmon. The rolls have a little too much rice sometimes, but more is better than not enough. I just ate here for the first time before reading any reviews. I was attracted by the huge selection of pretty sushi & reasonable prices. Unfortunately, the food looks much better than the eating experience. After 3 pieces of "Fantasy" roll, on a very cold Dec day, I suddenly got very flushed; had to take my coat & hat off. Later, after finishing the Fantasy, I got a headache-must be the MSG! I really thought people in the restaurant biz knew not to use it any more. I didn't find hair in my food, but while waiting for the take-out, I noticed the cashier drying the plastic spoons & folks with a paper towel, & returning them to the bin. That can't be good. The fish was kinda stale & chewy-did not seem as good as Kamakura's. I guess I agree with Victor G.'s revue. Sorry, Yo Sushi, you need to work on these problems! They can be fixed. read more

I am giving this restaurant an average review because my boyfriend and I love a cheap sushi house and this place fit the bill. The first few times we came it was great fresh cuts of fish and hot edamame, but after having a not so great bite of unagi today filled with scales I can't see us going back. If you're going to go try the lion king roll, it's baked in a special awesome sauce but it is in no way a comparison to a fresh roll with fresh fish and veggies. I've stopped at this place for lunch several times recently and really find it to be a better value and higher quality than other fast food in the area. You order & pay before sitting down and they have photos of their menu items on the wall with the prices. There are also lunch combination specials posted at the counter.
