FINALLY‼ tried Yma Yma, been on my bucket list of restaurants for awhile. I ordered the featured $15.99 Sulit Special combo platter (to go). This consists of pancit bihon (traditional noodle dish), chicken inasal (yes!! boneless thigh), pork bbq on a stick, rice, cucumber slices, dipping sauce and choice of drink. Fresh, hot and generous enough for me to make two meals out of it. Very clean restaurant with a nice vibe. Gentleman working the counter is personable and so welcoming. Other than fresh hot entrees you will see packaged baked goods , condiments and a few assorted gift items for sale. The food? Ahhhmaaazing. Tastes like it should and looks like it should. I know why. Lola came out with the home cooked entrees, placing the pancit and other select choices in the heated serving pans. Who is Lola you ask? Well, that is the term for Grandma in the Filipino dialect of Tagalog. Someone's Lola was back there doing what she knows from memory, traditions and simply cooking with love and joy to please whoever she is sharing her food with. Yes there were other talented hands working alongside Lola but she is the key to making the food as it should be. I have already raved to my family and friends about trying Yma Ymas. Definitely give them a try, you will NOT be disappointed. You're missing out if you don't. I am going to return and continue supporting this deserving small business. I feel my Filipino pride well represented in this establishments cuisine. This is the REAL. Maraming salamat Ymas Ymas for doing it RIGHT! I hope you are able to do more special themed late afternoon/evening events that hilite Metro Detroit Filipinos talent of ALL ages and not just vocal performers (though I would love to see and hear teen and younger vocalists). Think about those local Pinoys who are crafters, artists, poets, writers, apparel designers , stylists, hairdressers, makeup/hair artists, jewelers, etc. I would support seeing them at the same time supporting Yma Ymas and more importantly supporting our local Pinoy people. read more

It was really cute and aesthetic inside! It was my first time here and I got the chicken inasal, okoy, buko pandan, and bibingka. Everything was really good and yummy! I've never had okoy before and I don't like sweet potato but with the shrimp it was a great savory combo! I do wish the buko pandan had nata de coco because that's my favorite ingredient and a little less coconut shavings. I love the concept of having a different menu each week which I found on Facebook (I don't think there is a website). read more

I tried this place for the very first time today. I saw the wonderful review on Instagram a few months ago I decided to stop by. The places medium-sized and very clean. The owner as a fantastic spirit and he's very pleasant to talk with. The food is absolutely excellent. I won't describe everything, but I'll include pictures. The things I want to call out are the adobo, the bbq pork skewers and the beef stew. The rice dessert was excellent as well. It's Filipino. It's local. We're starving. I know the Philippines and their cuisine. Grew up on it. To begin with the room is pretty cool for an informal dining stop. From the exposed brick wall to the subtle references to their homeland, it's a comfortable setting that you don't mind spending extra time enjoying. The wait staff are wonderful and the service was unbeatable. My SIL from Manila joined us and after they had a nice conversation (in Tagalog), they jammed a ton of what they had made onto a couple of platters and charged us next to nothing. I think they liked her. We tipped the daylights out of them. They responded with Mango Cake to take home, since we were stuffed. Everything is delicious. Best Pancit I've had in years. Beef was great. The lumpia actually made the way I like it. I'm going to go ahead and label this authentic. Pro Tip: If you have no prior experience with Filipino food, tell them so. Saw this place on Chowdowndetroit. Thought it would be a nice place to take my Filipina wife for her birthday meal. It was like walking into a nice simple restaurant back in the Philippines. Even had the Filipino favorite past time a Karaoke machine just like back home. The only thing missing were the chickens running around outside crowing. The owners were warm and welcoming with a sense of humor. The food was just like back in the Philippines flavorful and filling. For the price it was a value for the combo meal the right amount of food for one person or split between 2 for a light meal. Of the 4 of us eating I was a piggy and ate it all but the other 3 had leftovers to take home. They offer other thing Filipino to go items from the little Filipino (Sari-Sari) store they have. This is a fairly new place, so we thought we'd check it out. Upon walking in, I knew I'd like it. They have a mini store, a turo-turo restaurant, and some desserts to go. The ambience is fantastic, and the space is Instagram-friendly. The owners are super friendly, and the service is fantastic. They even surprised my mom with an ube dessert for her birthday. 5/5, give this place a try. You won't regret it. From the service to the food, this is THE Filipino place in the Michigan/Troy area. I was unimpressed by the display walking in. It was 6 buffet-like containers of food that looked dry when I arrived 30 minutes before closing. I had a number of items I wanted to try, including bbq pork, Shanghai lumpia, and beef salpicao. However, I was told they don't have a fixed menu, and currently, they are just cooking items per the owners discretion, and one must call ahead to know the items ahead of time. THE MENU POSTED ON YELP IS NOT UP TO DATE AND DOES NOT REPRESENT THEIR CURRENT MODE OF SERVICE. I decided to give these 3 dishes a try. I was SO pleasantly surprised. The beef and mushroom was not too heavy. Savory Filipino sauce. No wonder this was their third batch that day. The pork hocks was delicious. Fatty. Not overly salty. Melts in your mouth. The definition of homey-filipino soul food. Pancit-staple Filipino noodle dish perfectly fried and again not too heavy- paired perfectly with other two dishes. The service was superb. The owner, Vangie, is super nice and humble. She is the like the motherly/grandmotherly figure you imagine cooking soul-warming food that reminds you of home. Great person. Great food. 10/10 everything! Food is amazing. Literally everything tastes good. You can't go wrong. Lumpia is freshly made. You can order one dozen at a time ($0.60 each). Sausage is sweet and savory, tastes very similar to Taiwanese sausages. 2 entree items are very unique but both tasted great! Would definitely return to try other items. Also service is amazing. Everything was good. I got a beef curry and the pork hocks plate combo. The pork hocks was delicious. I wish the portions that was given was more. It was 1 piece of the pork hock a small amount of the curry for $13. I will definitely ask for more portions next time if I go back. read more
