Lezziz has now moved to Melbourne Street in North Adelaide, and as someone who has been going to…read moretheir old restaurant for a while, I was worried that it wouldn't be as good. The quality of the service has declined, but fortunately the food is as good as ever. There's a lot of lamb and chicken dishes that are wonderful, a fantastic Haloumi salad, delicious house-made ice creams and also some great vegan and vegetarian options for those inclined. The vegan dishes are not listed as vegan, so you'll have to double check with the servers. I highly recommend the jeweled rice as a dish to share. It's a gorgeous mix of tangy, sweet and savoury flavours with a lovely crunch of toasted nuts. It's my all time favourite and I order it every time! Or if you eat meat and you're after a main, there's a dish of jeweled rice that has shredded slow-cooked chicken mixed throughout. It might be the best jeweled rice I ever had! Due to the location, the food is a bit on the pricy side (it would set you back around $60 if you're getting a main, a drink and an entree) but the food is really delicious and you can't find it anywhere else. The only downside since the move is the service. Since moving to Melbourne street, the service has a 50/50 chance of being okay depending on who is on that day, which is a shame as the service was always wonderful when we used to frequent the old location. I've been to the new location twice. The first time the service was fine (okay, though not up to the old standard), but the last time I went, we had one very grumpy waitress who was hardly keeping an eye on the customers, even though it wasn't busy and there were only two tables to look after. We had to wait a long time to order and to receive the bill, and often found ourselves giving up and going to the counter after ages of waiting for her to come to us as she was never watching to see if her customers needed anything. 90% of the time she'd stand behind the counter looking bored and grumpy. I really hope that this was just a one-off thing. When it comes to restaurants with high prices, I usually don't mind if the food is amazing and the service is amazing. If they improved the service, this would be a five star place and I'd recommend it enthusiastically to everyone just like I used to before the move. I really hope that that changes in the future, because I've always really loved this place.

Rounded off the evening with 3 desserts among us and we all were well fed, not overly but sufficient. Costed us $15 each and that included a small tip. The complementary soup which came soon after our order was a welcoming surprise on a cold winter night. It was a lemon and lentil soup, well balanced with a nice sprinkle of dried dill was rather wholesome. We had a salsa/dip kind of mixture as starter and there were accompanying thin bread which is different from your Turkish pide. There were parts which are crispy and some softer parts, never had a flat bread like this before. The cucumber/spinach salad with walnut was a refreshing start to the meal. We then had stewed lamb shank, chicken with rice with promegranade sauce and heaps of sultanas and final meat dish was the Lezizz special which consisted of big mound of rice and 3 kinds of meat skewers. This was easily divided among us. The 3 vegetarian mains were tasty and worth trying. We had 3 big bowls of different flavoured ice creams to share and that just went down well with everyone to finish the nice meal. The friendly staff were attentive and informative There's plenty of car parks available on site and the restaurant is well situated on the corner of a busy thoroughfare main street. They should do well as I was told they are always busy, supposed that it is not being licensed, most people would just pop in for a quick good value wholesome meal and they could easily turned the table over a few times during the course of the night. We will be back to try some of the other dishes which we sounded interesting. It is definitely a good value meal.

My Mother and I were in the neighbourhood and needed a feed. Yelp of course lead me to this fine family restaurant just off Goodwood road. Easily spotted with colourful signage on the road. Sumac staff are quiet, but are really friendly and welcoming. They are very happy to walk you through the menu if you are unsure of what items are. Some of them I had not heard of before. My Mum and I love to sample everything, and there isn't really much we don't like. So we of course went for the Shashlik Platter. It comes with three different styles of Shashlik, hummus, baba ganoush, home-made pickles, tabouli, salad with crispy pita, spiced rice and garlic sauce. All of that for $24.90! So awesome! We actually thought it would be smaller, so we ordered a plate of falafels as well. And yes, we definitely had stuff to take home. My fave on the platter was the hummus, pickles & chicken shashlik. All very flavoursome and well spiced. Wow, that garlic sauce is really intense, but also amazing on the pita bread. The falafels were fresh, but not as fluffy as I would have liked. They were full of fresh herbs though, so that made up for that! A huge menu to choose from, so be prepared to take a while to decide. You will really love this place!
