On my quest for amazing Thai cuisine I came across Ying's Thai-Sushi, and I'm glad I did. I ordered the Drunken Noodles and Papaya Salad both Thai Spicy. Both dishes had amazing flavor and were the perfect spice for me. Even though I got my order to go, the service was very fast, and the restaurant had plenty of seating and looked amazing inside with a traditional ambiance. My husband had been here before, and either he didn't make it sound good enough to go urgently, or I wasn't listening. I think it was the former. Regardless, I wish I had come here sooner, especially having driven by it countless times over the past 10 years. We came in on a Saturday night, and expected it to be busy, but it was pretty quiet. We were seated immediately. The interior is clean and decorated as you'd expect a Thai place to be. My son loved the giant butterflies in the party room. We got the tempura veggies--onion, carrots, bell peppers, and zucchini--all delicious. The broth for dipping was yummy. We shared the Massaman curry and pad see ewe. My 20 month old is obsessed with "cream," so we told him the Massaman sauce was cream, and he had SEVERAL helpings of the sauce on the rice. He also loves pasta, so the pad see ewe went over well with him as well. (We are doing our part to make sure this kid knows good food.) He happily ate leftovers as well. If our 20 month old loved it, then you know we did too. Mango sticky rice is probably one of my all-time favorite desserts, and theirs did not disappoint. The sushi is pricy, so we didn't get any. I have a go-to sushi spot and would be hard pressed to go anywhere else. But maybe someday I'll give it a go. All of our food came out quickly, which is especially important with a hungry baby in tow. For those who care, the bathroom is a single person room, which works great with a potty training toddler, but I don't recall a changing table which would be helpful with a baby in diapers. Such an amazing find! This place is located in a small strip mall, based on location you wouldn't expect much but it truly passes all expectations. We came as a group and all ordered from the Thai menu. The Panama curry is delicious. The spice level is 1-5 and it has a kick so be warned. You can ask for extra spice on the side to adjust to your liking which is nice. Cashew chicken was also delicious! Service was quick and great, our food came out quickly and everything was perfect. Sometimes really good food can help set the mood for a wonderful experience. As was the case today. 4 generations at the table. My mom was hesitant because she didn't think she would be able to find anything she liked. Afterwards she was raving about how good the sweet and sour shrimp was the best she has ever had. I don't like to leave a bad review. The food was okay; however, halfway through, there were a couple flies flying around us. Yikes! Apparently, the workers and the management team does not know about germs & bacteria and how it is spread. I lost my appetite when I saw the flies. Ying's was a pretty solid experience! We tried out a couple of sushi rolls and the chicken teriyaki. The sushi was solid, the Philly roll and Dragon roll were a good size and very tasty. Probably some of the better rolls that I've had in the area. The chicken teriyaki came with steamed veggies and rice. It was decent, a little small as far the meat portion went, but still good. Let's start with the positives. The menu has a good variety for both its Thai and Sushi menus. Now on to the rest: Most of their tables are for groups of four but they have some tables for up to six. The inside is a bit stale/old and could use a refresh for a better vibe. The sauce for the gyoza isn't great so I wouldn't recommend them for an appetizer. The drunken noodles were average. I'm really embarrassed! I get my hair cut just a few doors down from this place every few weeks and have driven by this place for several years and I can't believe I haven't tried it before today. The food is really good! I love Thai food and my wife isn't as fond of Thai as I am. I was able to get my curry fix and she was able to get a Japanese Bento Box. Everyone is happy! Ok, I really don't like leaving negative reviews for any businesses and if I have in the best the lowest I've left was 3 stars, but I wouldn't be leaving 1 If I didn't think this may be the biggest waste of your time and money. I came with only 3 other people, and I ordered food with appetizers (which is in this photo) at 7:40 pm, I had to go to the waiter and manager three times to ask when the appetizers at least coming and finally they brought them at 8:40 pm. I've never been to a place that took ONE HOUR to bring two plates of appetizers and not to mention they were COLD. We waited for longer than an hour now and I have considered to Just leave at this point. They have some party here and serving them nonstop food, but the 5 tables including ours that's been waiting longer than an hour not one "sorry" and no one would come up and offer even water. Don't come here. The food is frozen anyways. The waiter was so rude and cold to us saying "i warned you we're busy and it will be a little longer" and I said not longer than an hour. It was my first time here but certainly not the last. We ended up here after waiting too long at a restaurant near by. My friends had been here and highly recommended it. We got right in. They had everyone spaced out. It made it feel more intimate and I liked that. First the decor. It was like a Thai Palace. There are lots of beautiful drapes around and the colors are a calming yellow with splashes of red. The owner greeted us. She knows our friends. We were treated like Royalty. No glass went Unfilled and every desire was served to us the moment we uttered it. I had Shrimp Tempura with Vegetables and rice. My husband had the Tempura Seafood Special. It had green lipped mussels and he was in Heaven. He also ordered the California roll. It was huge and he said it was delicious and fresh. All of this food was about $40. What a deal I didn't realize that the owner was Thai. They have both Thai and Japanese food. She came over at the end and I got to ask her all about Thai food which is my favorite. My family and I really like Yings. It's located in Sandy in a shopping mall with lots of other businesses. There is plenty of parking. Yings is kind of a hole in the wall restaurant but the food is wonderful! We enjoy the pad Thai, Papya salad, glass noodle salad, coconut soup, pineapple fried rice and any of the curries. The curry can be pretty spicy so if you don't like spice order the yellow curry or panang curry. They have sushi as well. I enjoyed the tasty Thai and the spider rolls. Our favorite dessert is the mango sticky rice. The service is good but not super fast. We needed a few things and had to wait severest minutes for our server. Often times we will order to go for this reason. The restaurant is clean and there are several tables. The ambiance reminds me of my grandmothers home but I come fur the food not the atmosphere. The service alone makes this a 5 star restaurant. Let me start by saying that Union Plaza looks like a run-down strip mall that needs to be torn down. However, we have found several gems here. Ting's Thai Sushi is one of them. Other reviews raved about the excellent service, so I thought it was setting us up for disappointment. It did not. Our server Amp (I believe was her name) was amazing. She asked if we had ever been there before. When we told her no, she explained the two different colored menus; one was for sushi and the other for Thai. The menus are quite extensive, so my husband asked what she recommended. She jumped right in. She asked what we liked and didn't like, then made several recommendations based on our responses. We ordered way too much and knew we were but wanted to try both menus. You see, neither of us could believe both the sushi and Thai would be good. We thought one would be good and the other mediocre at best. Again, we were wrong. The decor in this place is old fashioned but fresh paint and clean. The bathroom was updated and very clean. Our bill came to $78, but we did order two very expensive dishes. But still, it is pricy. That said, we will be back. We ordered two rolls. The Tasty Thai because this was a fusion dish the restaurant represented. And the Enormous Sunshine Roll because it had so many different fish, we couldn't resist. I liked the Tasty Thai better, as I am not a huge fan of the soy paper. The Enormous Roll lived up to its name - it was huge. On the Thai side, we ordered the drunken noodles at a level 3. It was mouth numbing for me but not so much I couldn't taste the food. This dish was delicious. We also ordered the Chu Chee Salmon. I don't recall the server asking what level spice we wanted on the Chu Chee but I think that is because my husband had wanted to go a level 4 and I asked if we could go level 3 with a side of hotter for him. I believe she made the salmon a level 2. It was perfect. The BBQ salmon was a delicious contrast to the sweet and spicy curry. Bottom line, this a great place to take friends or out of town guest or even a date. It's quiet, clean, yummy ana excellent service with a ton to choose from. This is a great Thai restaurant, everything I've had are rich in flavors with plenty of the herbs and spices like how Thai food should be, the ingredients are abundant and the portions are big, unlike some of other Thai restaurants that are holding back on the ingredients and with watered-down flavors. The stuffed fried chicken wings (Angel Wings) has been a must get for me, I've had it from other Thai restaurants before, by far theirs is the best. I just tried their crab fried rice today, it wad some of the most tasty fried rice I've had, it has a hint of fish sauce, and there was so much crab that I could get a big portion of the crab in every bite. I have not yet tried their sushi, the only one I've tried was the spicy scallop gunkan maki special, and it was a huge let down. Over $8 for two bites of chopped scallops that were very blend, while the presentation was pretty, the sauces they used didn't do anything. I believe other places charges about the same price for uni not some blend scallops. I've ordered takeout many times and eaten in-restaurant - the food is consistently delicious. Idk how but the food always arrives piping hot and the fried dishes crispy! Service at the restaurant is average, to the point. The ambiance is casual, basic. The Thai dishes are really really good - everything else is okay. If you request spicy, it will be spicy (which surprisingly, it's hard to find an Asian food establishment that makes food actually spicy). This has to be one of the top spots to visit when you're wanting authentic Thai food in Utah. We have been here twice just in the last 3 weeks because we wanted to try other items in their Thai/Japanese menu. The final verdict is ... YES - highly recommend. Our favorites were the crab fried rice, drunken noodle, pud thai and chicken satay. Their Japanese entrees were decent as well and sushi was pretty good.
