I am by no means a sushi connoisseur, but I can say with absolute certainty, that this is the best sushi restaurant I have been to. The vibes are nice and quiet (unless you're like us and go with a loud group of women), and the staff was amazing. Jordan was patient and the right amount of attentive. We had 6 or 7 tapas, 6 or 7 rolls, and 3 types of sake. Every single thing we had was delicious. My favorite tapas were the spicy tuna tartare and the jalapeño hamachi. They are a must try!! I honestly don't know how this was our first time at Mint. Well, that's not necessarily true, I am a diehard Takashi fan, if we were going out for sushi I would insist we go to Takashi. Throughout the years I have heard great things about Mint so for our wedding anniversary my husband and I decided to finally try it out! I am so glad we did. Not only was it nice to skip the hassle of parking downtown but the food was great. Our server was amazing, with it being our first time she gave us a rundown of the menu and highlighted some favorites. The atmosphere of the restaurant was dim and chill. We ordered miso soups, the jalapeño hamachi, the beef tataki, the moonlight roll, and the apollo roll. I also ordered their sparkling sake which was a special and I loved it. The miso soups were delicious and priced well. The jalapeño hamachi is an award winning dish and I can see why. It was SO good. My husband actually saved the vinaigrette to try with other dishes. We also enjoyed the beef tataki, I did feel like it was a little on the chewy side but overall good. We loved the moonlight roll, the flavors and sweetness were good, I did feel like it was missing heat from the spicy tuna. The apollo roll was good, this roll also had spicy tuna and it was definitely hotter. Mint met our expectations and will definitely be a contender for our next sushi date night. read more

If you're looking for good sushi, Mint is probably not the place. However, if you're looking for really good Tapas, Mint is definitely the place! Mint has an extensive menu of small sharing plates, and everything I've tried was something that I enjoyed, including: the lollipop lamb chops, sable fish, jalapeno hamachi, and baked mussels. These things were all delicious, flavorful, and fairly portioned for the price. My favorite is between the lamb chops (I just love lamb) and the hamachi (the sauce is really good!). I'm sure that if I were to visit again and order any other tapas, I'd like them, too! But unfortunately, for a restaurant with "sushi" in the name, the sushi menu is surprisingly unappealing. (Side note: I like the naming convention of the rolls, but they're not descriptive, and it makes the restaurant's already-lacking theme more incohesive.) All of the sushi rolls on the menu have repeating ingredients, even more so than other sushi restaurants, so there's not much reason to order multiple rolls because they're pretty much all the same roll. During this visit, I noticed there were no options for nigiri or sashimi (which I prefer when going out for sushi), so we only got tapas and rolls--and honestly, we should have only gotten tapas. The restaurant was chilly and dim, so I wasn't really eager to be there awhile, but luckily the food came out quickly. Overall, I had a good experience, but I wouldn't say my experience with Mint was anything to write home about. If I were to dine at Mint again, it would be for their lovely sushi-making class, a unique and fun experience that any sushi lover would enjoy. read more

Mint is absolutely delicious. Their original location in Sandy is my favorite of their locations. Each time we go to Mint, the food is deliciously fresh, detailed, plated beautifully, well thought out and creative. The service is wonderful each time - you can tell the staff absolutely loves the product they are serving and stands by it. My favorite is the Yellowtail Hamachi. The sauce under the fresh, perfectly sliced fish, is so flavorful and unique. It is the perfect combination of spicy, vinegary, slightly sweet with a delicious umami flavor. The spicy tuna crispy rice is another favorite of mine. Under the generous serving of spicy tuna is the most perfectly crispy rice patty. So yummy! Delectable dining experience. They have outdoor seating available. Parking was a breeze. For some fun they offer sushi making classes and they offer a 10 course tasting menu. No wait we got a table right away. We had excellent service. Magnificent food presentation. The house salad was fancy AF and real yummy. Seared wagyu beef tasted flavorful and perfect we would definitely order this dish again. I like yakisoba noodles, they had yummy noodles but not my favorite. The miso soup was refreshing. Salmon nigiri was nice and my husband liked the tuna nigiri but I didn't try it myself. The walu ceviche was not typical of a ceviche but it was great. I don't know if I'd order it again but I think it's worth a try. The Shishito peppers were a must have the tempura batter was absolutely perfection. This spot totally rocked! The flavors, freshness and texture of the fish were all soo good and perfect. I started with the gyoza which came out soo fast. Literally I was seated and not even ten minutes later my gyoza was out and it tasted so good - crisp while still being soft on the edges and with yummy interior, all swimming in a little pool of sauce. Next was the Milkyway roll which is a shrimp tempura roll with spicy tuna on top. Super good too - the fish is fresh, the tempura was still crispy, it was great. Finally, I finished with the Chilean sea bass and wow...the flakiness and texture of this fish was incredible. So moist and flavorful while being perfectly cooked. I do wish there was a little more bok choy than what came with it, but since it's a tapas place, I can appreciate that they're not going for an entire bok choy side. The one thing I will say is that I think the sushi staff (those preparing the rolls) could have been a little bit more professional. They appeared pretty young (early 20s) which is fine, but then the topics they were talking about were a little inappropriate for having a diner within earshot (like how Americans have ruined Japanese sushi, which is ironic at an American sushi restaurant or trashtalking Utah, etc.) It was a bit of a damper on an otherwise excellent experience. read more

Flavor is there!! The restaurant name includes "tapas", so expect it to be small proportioned. Priced at about regular sized entrees, but of course smaller delicate sizes. In turn, you get flavor and art/aesthetics. You have to give it up for their presentation. We bought about 5 plates to share amongst two and it got me full. Everything I ordered was good. The tuna tartare and star gazer was delicious and you can tell the fish was fresh with its bright translucent colors. Sable fish had a nice torch flavor with a light glaze. For all you Japanese Mayo lover get the baked mussel. It's heavy on the Japanese Mayo, but still surprisingly balances with the bread and all. If you want to try something different, strange, and like sea weed salad, get the jelly fish. Great place to go on a date. Lots of two seater tables in the restaurant. I did see areas for 4-6 but definitely a smaller restaurant with outside seating as well. There's lots to choose from on the menu. I'd love to come back and try more tapas. read more

The sushi was actually so delicious... pretty over priced in comparison to other sushi places. You're looking at about $15ish a roll. You can tell they do use great ingredients and fresh fish. The only disappointment I had in there was the service. Main point is that right after the waitress had taken our checks back for payment, she came back out and told us we needed to leave because there was a smaller group of people waiting for a table. I figured after such an expensive meal and a generous tip the least they could do was let us enjoy the time sitting and talking with our family. I love that Mint Tapas and Sushi has online reservations and waitlist options! In today's Covid world, I never know if I'll have to wait, since most places are at limited capacity. So having a spot reserved for me eases my mind. We visited right when they opened, so not only did we have a table to ourselves, we had an entire section! Service was friendly-in fact, very welcoming. Our server took some time to go over a few menu items with us and took our order. We tried a couple sushi rolls as well as two small plates. Quality definitely trumps quantity here. You won't find a multi page menu of overwhelming options, but a respectable list of well-curated dishes. Each one is a little work of art that was obviously made with care. The ambience is cozy and slightly upscale. White table clothes and unique cutlery....weird to remark on that, but I loved my fork and chopsticks. They were very pretty. This would be a place I'd return for a special occasion or with friends when we want to have a nice meal and potentially try several options, as the small plates are perfect for that. read more

Love it here! This is my go to spot! I discovered this gem during the beginning of COVID. I found a sushi making class Groupon and though it would be a good date idea. I learned about the the process and I could see the chefs passion. Once we tasted the rolls I made, I knew I'd have to give the restaurant a try! Anytime we have a chance to bring friends and family here, we do and order the gyoza and sexy shrimp and tempura. I say, try all the rolls! They're all delicious! We had the best night! This was our first time at this restaurant and it won't be the last. We sat at the bar and enjoyed the action with the creators of the food. Little did we know that one of the sushi chefs was the owner and he made our visit unforgettable. The food was like no other sushi restaurant. The exterior is kinda dumpy but the inside is pretty chic! This is a cute date night eatery but hope they work on improving all areas bc this place has a lot of potential to be fantastic. I hate being on my phone during date night - the menus here are QR coded so you're looking at a screen at the start. The food menu is extensive (almost overwhelming with number of choices) but drink menu is a bit sad. They were short staffed so I'll be forgiving with my review. The server had a hard time keeping our waters refilled (doesn't help that the water glasses are metal so impossible to see when it's empty). They were out of vodka - all vodka. The server didn't seem to care much about making a big tip bc after the first round she never asked if we wanted more drinks. The pace of the food arriving was very off - one person got all their dishes and the other three got their food 15min later...so probably best to share communal style rather than individually. The food, when it did arrive was great. I dare say this is the best sushi I've had in Utah in the six years I've been here. Fresh wasabi, interesting relishes, classics and nouveau. Last criticism - the plates used were too big. While it makes for a nice photo, the rim of one plate takes over a quarter of the table. When the weather is nice, the outdoor dining area looks like a nice place to enjoy (as long as you don't mind the sounds of traffic). If mgmt can improve the drink list - perhaps hire a mixologist or just a real bartender, continue to train the servers to focus and on a best in class experience, and regulate the inside temperature, this place will become a foodie destination. read more

Took the bestie here for her birthday dinner. I liked that I was able to make a reservation as well. On a Sunday early dinner, there wasn't many people at the restaurant, which was totally fine. Once you turn into the parking lot, the structure looks a little sus, but once you enter inside, everything looks fine (LOL!). The only complaint I had was that there was a fly harassing us the whole time we were there. It did not steer away a 5 star review though. My personal favorites were the seared wagyu (literally melts in your mouth), the crispy tuna (super tasty and the rice was fried perfect!), and the Vulcan roll. I would skip out on the poke nachos next time, I think it was the flavor and the texture for me... We want to have another get together here with more friends.
