Blah.. Sushi was sub-par. We paid happy hour pricing so I'm not going to complain but I can't imagine paying the full price, ($12-15.) for the quality. But the service was horrible. Its happy hour, every table is full and there is only one waitress for the entire restaurant. Needless to say, everything took forever and she mixed up quite a few orders. We were sympathetic to her plight & I understand it wasn't her fault, it just made for an unpleasant experience. Hopefully the owner will invest in more servers and better quality fish. read more

Ordered Salmon Nigiri, Seaweed Salad, San Diego Roll, and miso soup. Prices are very reasonable, and I have noticed that Nigiri is almost always more than $3.50 so I wasn't complaining. Miso Soup - $2.00 and It was pretty good, although, I did notice that there was a weird after taste. Kinda like when you know you are drinking tap water instead of bottle water, at least for me, I can tell. Seaweed Salad - $2.50 and this was REALLY GOOD. It was a lot of salad and they added a touch of lemon juice on it ..wow, I must say I am going to ask for a slice of lemon whenever I go to another sushi joint. San Diego Roll - $13 (cant remember but somewhere along that price range) Outside- crab, spicy mayo, eel sauce, tobiko Inside - sliced cucumbers and shrimp tempura. I honestly did not want to get this roll in the first place but it was "safe" than the others.. It had a lot of cucumbers which is awesome because I love more veggies in my meal. Like some sushi places, they don't do the tempura right away its more of a room temperature tempura and lost most of its crunchy-ness too it.. aside from that, the roll itself was good in its entirety. Salmon Nigiri- $5 something (cant remember price either) So let me start off with saying that I can tell whether they use fresh fish and old fish and this is just my palette alone. Like most fresh fish, you usually cant smell that fishy-ness and in this case I wasnt able to (score!) and then when I ate it, it didnt give my mouth an itchy feeling. I thought I was getting allergic to fish because usually that is what happens whenever I am allergic to something. Nope, its because they did not use fresh fish. Ive learned that by experimentation. SO to sum it up, they used really fresh fish for their Nigiri. As far as taste goes, it was smooth, like melt in your mouth smooth. :) Very good! I will go back here and try more of their specialty rolls and even their hibachi items! :) read more

So freaking good. And cheap! I hit up Happy Hour (3-6) and nothing is over $5! The rolls are 6 piece, but they're plenty big. Bigger than maki rolls. My favorite is salmon skin rolls (always reminds me of that Friends episode XD ) and salmon rolls. Sooo smooth. Plus salmon's the best for those coveted omega 3's and omega 6's that nobody knows anything about. They've got free Wi-Fi. (Ha! Wi-Fi @ Yi! You dont like... f*ck you!) Oh, and three LED screens on ESPN. I think that's standard now. The gyoza's OK. But I think it's the Cosco variety. The seaweed salad is huge! And the ladies... THE LADIES! We like going here, the sushi is usually very good and we like the atmosphere. We are so glad they changed the music! We almost quit going because the music in the past was so loud and annoying but now they seem to have found decent background music good for dining. Went during the lunch hour today with my grandson and we were pleasantly surprised. It is a strip-mall type restaurant. The service was good and the sushi rolls (caterpillar and crunch roll) we ordered were fantastic. We live in the area, so it was nice to find someplace close to home where we can go and get our sushi fix without having to travel far. read more

I like this place more than Tabu Sushi (down the street). They have a good happy hour everyday from 3-6. The servers are friendly, some of them lack personality because they are not comfortable speaking English. Nonetheless they are still friendly and better then some snotty teenager serving me. read more

Got the after burner and the shrimp tempura roll. Both were DISGUSTING. The seaweed is rough and makes you choke. Not fresh at all. Even their beverages were gross. I have to write about this place again because they are still doing such an amazing job. The food no matter what myself or friends have ordered has been fantastic. The staff is always attentive and eager to help, either with refilling drinks or explaining the menu. The food is always fresh and received in a very timely manner. We've gone to Yi about three times. The first time, I would have ranked it with 4 stars. The chirashi bowl was a bowl of fresh, well presented fish on top of well-prepared rice, and it included ama ebi (pretty rare). The second time, it was OK... 3 stars... no ama ebi. This last time? We were one of only TWO seated tables, and no one was at the bar - so pretty slow night. Both hubby and I ordered miso and then I ordered the chirashi and he ordered the sashimi. We immediately got the miso - great! - but it had a weird taste. We went ahead and finished it - and our gastrointestinal systems paid for it later. Then my chirashi was served... on a platter. Large slabs of fish thrown on top of a bed of ice and shredded daikon, with a lump of rice heaped on the edge of the platter. Not as described and not all that great - but acceptable to someone who hadn't eaten all day. While I started eating, my hubby waited... and waited... and waited. About 15 minutes after my chirashi was served, he got his sashimi. Weirdly enough, it looked almost exactly the same as my chirashi but without the rice (great) but still with the ice and daikon and with these THICK, HUGE pieces of fish. Hubby took one bite and discovered THEY WERE STILL FROZEN IN THE MIDDLE. He spit it out - and we immediately left. (That's why I know the miso was the reason for our problems later in the night - it's the only thing we BOTH ate.) If you want rolls - I think you'll maybe like Yi. If you want real sushi - steer clear. It's gone WAAAAY down hill. read more

We thought it was strange when we walked in and they had very loud hip-hop music playing. I asked if they could change it or a least turn it down. They were nice and complied. It was funny that they the switched it to a country station. Apparently, that's what all white people listen to. I didn't mind all that. It's actually the reason I gave them a 3 instead of a 2. The problem was the food. It didn't taste fresh and wasn't bursting with flavor or anything. It was just blah sushi. To me, subpar sushi equals terrible sushi.
