Believe the hype! Take the drive to Tejaro and ye shall be rewarded!…read more After a long day of travel I was hankering for something solid, and tacos sounded spot on. Living on the outskirts of town means I always need to travel some distance to find food. Luckily it's the same distance north or south, so I went south this evening and finally got a chance to try the fabled Tejaro tacos! Tejaro is a food truck parked outside a small bar in Washoe Valley. Definitely not the kinda place you stumble upon, but it's absolutely a place you need to set as a destination if you love tacos. Tacos start with tortillas and these were incredibly tender. Tortillas may seem minor, but they're something that makes a good taco experience great for me! On the meats, I chose the shredded beef and al pastor. Shredded braised beef will always be my pick over Asada, which I find tends to be dry. The shredded beef at Tejaro is perfection, beyond tender and juicy, full of flavor, savory fatty, and so good with a touch of their housemade salsa. The pastor was also super tender, slightly charred with a nice spicy kick! I downed these tacos way too fast and went right back for more. You'll do the same. Put this truck at the top of your list and make a plan to enjoy taco perfection at Tejaro!

The store itself scratches quite a few itches, having a full bar and a robust selection of alcohol, especially whisky, on top of their sandwich and deli offerings. I got the roast beef and cheddar with horseradish sauce. The bread was fresh and crisp and the sandwich was generously supplied with meat. The sauce was just the right amount of bite for the meal. I can say the same level of positive review for the grilled cheese and tomato soup combo. Ambiance style: Lots of old beer taps and hand drawn signs and a quaint, cozy little dining area.

They WERE busy however they gave everyone a buzzer to notify them when their food was ready. Our buzzer went off and my husband and daughter went to grab the food while I ran to our truck to get bottles of water. My husband called me to tell me our food wasn't right. So I ran back and talked with the lady taking orders. She was EXTREMELY rude, told me "this is why it's important you keep your buzzer" I'm like we HAD our buzzer, the buzzer rang and our food isn't right! The experience was definitely not worth the 43$ it cost for two nachos and 4 street tacos. Lady had an attitude with everyone in line. Several people walked out of the line bc of her poor attitude.

I was helped by a woman who, from the moment I approached the counter, never looked at me or acknowledged me. She continued talking to a coworker, with her head turned away from me the entire time. At one point, the coworker even came over to show her something on her personal phone, and the conversation continued. She eventually bagged my coffee cake without saying a word, still never making eye contact, and handed it to me. I actually had to lean toward her until she finally looked at me. I said, "Thank you," and walked away. I completely understand that working with the public can be challenging, and everyone has bad days. But this was more than just being having a bad day--it was zero effort to acknowledge or interact with a customer. Schat's is a place I really like, which is why this experience was so disappointing. If you're going to work in a customer-facing position, please make an effort to be courteous, acknowledge your customers, and provide at least the basic level of customer service they deserve.
