There's something special about Soul Food from certain neighborhoods. They season and they season well. They take fried foods seriously in these neighborhoods and Yellowbird does not disappoint. Places like this are probably less consistent but when they get it right get ready for an unforgettable experience. My only critique would be to get the wings instead of the tenders. This was one of the worst experiences I've had in a long time. So bad that I have to write a review. I placed an online order and arrived during the pick up time. The woman working said 10 more minutes, almost 20 minutes later my food was finally finished. Got home only to find that all of my chicken wings still had feathers on it. I've eaten wings with feathers before, one here two there but not my entire damn order. I ordered lemon pepper and spicy wings and what I got was all plain. At least she got the dipping sauces right. On top of that I also found HAIR on my fries. Maybe if the woman wasn't on FACETIME the entire time she was making my order this wouldn't have happened. Was looking for a Boston Market-type meal, and that's the vibe we got here with the rotisserie chicken family meal: full chicken (cut into quarters for transport), 4 cornbread muffins, choice of 3 sides, and gravy for a very reasonable $43. The flavor and moistness of the chicken were solid, and the sides were a good size with lots to choose from. Worth mentioning that I found the dominant flavor of the gravy, mashed potatoes, and mac & cheese to all be black pepper, which isn't my personal favorite and also got a bit repetitive- but if that's your jam, you'll enjoy. This was my first time walking in a couple of days ago. I'm so blessed that my wife usually picks up their chicken for me. I decided to bless a brother with this wonderful lunch. It was fantastic as always. The service was very friendly and fast. It has the requisite plastic screen to keep customers' cooties to themselves. No marks on the floor, but the customers were smart enough to keep social distancing. The parking is usually pretty good. Their quickest menu items are like the best KFC items, only cooked to order, so much tastier and fresher, even if the wait is a little longer. Their dinners are kind of like Boston Market fare, very comparable. If you select carefully among the side dishes, you will have a very decent meal. I ordered it with EXTRA FETA CHEESE. I opened my salad when I got home and did not see xtra feta, I called and he said "yeah, I added xtra...there is a lot of cheese"....NOT, there was about a 1/4 cup or less of Feta cheese...next time I will check my salad before I leave. I found this place through a sponsored Ad on Instagram. The photos of wings made me hungry, so I decided to give it a try. When I got to the place, it looked like a dirty little place, walls need painting, nowhere to sit except for 3 stools at a counter, and street only parking (good luck). The one guy in there, older guy, was working the register, cooking, and answering the phone all at the same time. He didn't always wash his hands between tasks, and when be did, it was only for two seconds. He was wearing flip flops and no hat or hair net as required by the health code. I figured hot oil would kill that bacteria anyway, so I rolled with it. I ordered the large wing basket (6 wings). It took longer than usual to cook the order. To my surprise, there was nothing large about that basket. The wings were not whole wings, just 6 wing ding parts (3 wings). I got a bit of fries, and a container of cole slaw the size of the containers that usually hold condiments. The cole slaw looked watery in that container, so I didn't even try it. The wings were okay, but not seasoned, and he doesn't clean all the feathers off the wing dings, which kinda irks me. My experience was just "okay." I recommend that the owner paint the walls, wear a hat, get some help so the cook isn't handling money and the phone, and put some Lawry's seasoned salt on those wings. That would at least get the place to a 4 star rating. This business will get some first visits due to the ads, but unless the presentation matches the social media posts, it won't survive the long term. Especially, with Kentucky Fried Chicken, old reliable, right down the street. I hope the owner reads this, knowing that the criticism was constructive, and only an effort to make the business better. Walked in the store to this young woman sitting down no customers in sight, maybe that was my sign. I ordered the rotisserie family meal spent damn near 50 bucks for a meal I barely ate I mean barely. Rotisserie chicken wasn't freshly made seemed as if it was day old. I happened to stumble upon yellow bird. The first few times it was delicious my order was right and I was in heaven. Crispy chicken and the bird nest fries (a combo of reg fries, sweet potato fries and onion rings) are to die for. And the customer service is great. My only gripe is the last few times I've gone my order has been off. Ordered birds nest got regular fries ordered chicken wings got tenders.
