The bar is pretty spacious, there's lots of room to just hang and drink besides the bar. Adam was our guide & bartender! The drinks were good and the tour was cool. My fave part, besides the cool event room murals, was learning they use poly covers for the barrels to keep track of Angel share (barrel evaporation). Yellow Rose Distillery is the place to be on a rainy Wednesday. Heard about the all day Wednesday Happy Hour from Morgan so noted it on my calendar. Drove to Yellow Rose Distillery not knowing what to expect. So there is free parking as Yellow Rose is located in a business strip center. They have a large cozy sitting area which has comfortable sofas with big chairs and high tables with bar stools. There is also sitting at the bar. They also have several TV's to watch sports on. You order and pay at the bar get your drink and pick a place to sit and enjoy your drink. I got an Old Fashion made with their outlaw bourbon. They also give tours of the distillery for a fee, which we did not do. The drinks were nice for HH prices. The service was nice as it's really just the people that are the bartenders. It's a nice place with nice people. Give it a try as it's local bourbon. Support local businesses. read more

I love exploring the local distilleries in my area. One of the places I was excited to check out was Yellow Rose Distilling. I decided to go on a quieter night and sample a flight of their spirits. They also offer tours that show you how they make their products. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, and they gave me some tips on which bottles were rare and worth buying. The atmosphere was relaxed and cozy, and I felt comfortable in my casual outfit. It was a great experience, and I would definitely recommend it. We had a great experience here. We came to Yellow stone distillery for a Sushi Cooking class and we had lots of fun! The instructor was very nice and clear on the instructions. Which made the class more enjoyable. We prepared 2 sushi rolls and a nigiri. Highly recommend the class As we waited for the class to start we ordered a few drinks. I don't usually drink whisky although the Watermelon crawl was so good! Very subtle and fruity. Although this location was veryyyy hard to find and there was no instructions listed how to distinguish the store front. We eventually found it and the interior was very nice, clean and modern. Great Central Houston distillery! The Yellow Rose distillery is a great visit, tour and tasting. You begin with the check in where you can buy a cocktail or pour of their product before the tour. Then you head to the attached warehouse for a very brief, yet informative tour before moving to the tasting. On our tour with 12 participants, we tasted four different tastes: Premium American Whiskey, Outlaw Bourbon, Rye Whiskey and Premium Bourbon #2. When the tour was over we lingered and helped the guide "finish" the pours that were not consumed (untouched, not leftovers). We then went back to the welcome area for another drink before heading out. Total time was just over an hour and would have been shorter if we hadn't hung around for the post-tour drink. Billboard worked. Saw a sign in Dallas and decided when in Houston, I would check it out. This was a smaller distillery, but very very nice. I had planned a surprise party for my boyfriend's birthday and wanted to do something special also since our anniversary was also happening that same week of his birthday! I contacted Yellow rose via phone and email and was able to get in touch with Sara McClain whom helped me with the details of the event! We planned for our friends to show up at the venue first with a poster and then I would bring my boyfriend to the location and they would surprise him at the entrance. I also asked Sara to help provide an area where my group could hang out because I was planning on bringing some appetizers to the event while we enjoy drinks before our dinner reservation. Sara had set aside a long table with a black table cloth where I set up appetizers, party favors and the cake and utensils for our guest to get the foods. We went through the tour and tasting which was so much fun and it was an absolute joy. My boyfriend really loves whiskey so it was a great opportunity for him to learn more about how its distilled and bottled at Yellow Rose. Our tour guide gave such great information, really had fun joking with our group of 8 also and overall, our group of 8 had great time! It was a great learning opportunity tied in with fun and whiskey! We had ordered drinks prior to going on the tour that was also encouraged to take with us while we walked around we could sip on. I wasn't always a big fan of whiskey and I'm not a big drinker in general but when I asked for a drink that was semi-sweet, I was recommended the polmero which had grapefruit juice, whiskey, simple syrup and some lemon. I really enjoyed it and ordered 2 more after the tour! I definitely want to do another tour and tasting again with more people because it was so much fun in general to hang out with friends, enjoy some whiskey and have great laughs! We even got a complimentary sniffing glass to take with each of us and I put those in each party gift for all of my guest to take home with them! I toured this distillery with some friends for something different, yet safe to do during these covid times. We arrived to check in at 2:45pm as prompted for our 3pm tour. However the tour didn't start until 3:10pm. It was extremely hot outside where we checked in & waited. So I asked if we were able to wait inside as not many people were inside besides the staff. That's when the tour began. Inside the distillery, we learned about where the name originated from, the story of the founders, and what the bourbon was made from as well as a few rules to what's considered a bourbon. We got to taste some of their bourbons as well. Most were pretty smooth & all were definitely strong. To the point it was too hot for me to keep drinking and standing in that dry heat. So I went to sit down in my ac after the final tasting. It's not too much to see but it was interesting learning about the history and science of it. Definitely an affordable activity to do with anyone, especially if you get the Groupon. Their cocktails looks really fruity and delicious. They also serve some bites as well. read more

For a tiny distillery, this place was a lot of fun. We went there early around 10/11 am which makes us either raging alcoholics or fun adventuresome people. I prefer to think I'm the adventurous type. I did enjoy all the drinks and liked that we were able to get seconds and thirds of samples. The place is clean, including the ladies room, and the staff is friendly. They have this neat gift shop and even sell maple syrup that uses one of their drinks as an ingredient. While waiting for the tour there are some huge jenga pieces, but you do need to come with a group, otherwise, you'll feel sad, lonely, and awkward. The negatives are that there isn't much in the way of food, but they did have a food truck on site. I would advise calling in advance to make sure that's available. Yeah, there's a little restaurant across the street, but why make things difficult? Also, because of the location you will pass this a few times, thinking Google lied to you as you case the area and practice your not so sneaky detective skills. It's there, I promise, it's just so bland of a location you can and will miss it among all the professional buildings. This is a great place for people who like alcohol tasting and breweries, but think most beer is gross. read more

This is the go-to for a quick drink and tour. It isn't a large operation. And they have maple syrup. That's important, because maple syrup is great. Just accept it. My first journey here was during the Yelp elite event. It was packed to the gills, but that worked in my favor. Many of the folks were turnt up before they used all of their tickets, and gave their extras to me. No argument here. This visit, there was nobody when I parked. Empty as a graveyard. Then a huge tour boss parked in front of me and dumped a crap load of people on a booze tour. Literally filled the place up for 30 minutes, then they were off to the next oasis leaving me and my tiny group of happy hour hunters in peace. Kinda cool though. I'll have to take a gander at the bus tour. The distillery tour is a nice quick run through the facility. It won't take an hour. So you can get to the the refreshments faster. The bar has a good happy hour. $5 everything. I had Tastes like Freedom, and White Velvet. The first was good. The second was also good but really sweet. I'm not big into the sweet drinks. They can make whatever you want with whiskey, but they also have other liquors as well. The staff is super cool and attentive. It's a small operation, so if it's a heavy customer day, I could see it getting a little slow. I liked weekdays on the early side. I'll be back to visit. read more

I had never heard of this distillery until a recent trip to Houston, but what a great little discovery in HTown! These guys know how to do bourbon and surprisingly, vodka! The tasting room is a little small, so I can only imagine on wknds how crowded it can get, but they have great and knowledgeable staff and owners, so I can definitely see this place putting its stamp on the burgeoning TX whiskey industry! They had a variety of bourbons and every single one of them was fantastic, but my favs were the double barrel and the maple. Their Maple Bourbon is made with maple syrup from Vermont and I got to sample the syrup itself (they sell it at the distillery) and wowsa! Sooooo good! I have a feeling there will be a pancake bourbon breakfast in my very near future! They also serve house cocktails at the distillery, right now it is the Apple Smash (very season appropriate) and a traditional Moscow Mule, made with their house vodka. Lemme tell ya, they know how to do a Moscow Mule right! I also had their Rye and Maple with gingerale and it was perfection! The tour was a lot of fun and very informative! A local Houston bourbon AND vodka distillery? Heck yeah! I learned about this place from a Yelp event so I had the privilege to tour the distillery for free and to sample (read: full servings) all their bourbons and vodka while hanging out with some awesome people. But fret not, my review will still be objective. They offer tours of the distillery on Thursdays and Fridays at 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm, as well as on Saturdays when they offer four different tour times. The tour will cost you $7 per person and you will get a sample (read: super small cup sample) of all the bourbons and the vodka at the end of the tour. They will show you the machinery and the barrels they use to produce the different batches of bourbon and they will show you the bottling area as well. Pretty interesting stuff. They offer four different kind of bourbons: blended (think Crown Royal), double barrel, rye (I wasn't a fan,) and the Outlaw (and the Outlaw special reserve.) The bourbons are surprisingly good. I'm a big fan of the Outlaw Special Reserve and I actually made it a point to purchase a bottle while I was there. And just a little FYI, the Outlaw Special Reserve edition can only be purchased from the distillery. Sure, you can find other Yellow Rose bourbons from your local liquor store, but if you want the crème de la crème of Yellow Rose bourbon? Then head to the distillery and get the Outlaw Special Reserve. You drink enough of this, you're guaranteed to forget all of your troubles (or forget that you made new ones.) They also produce vodka. Their vodka is called "Howdy Stranger" vodka. However, from the conversation I had with the president of the company, they focus more on producing bourbons. You wouldn't even find the vodka on their website. The vodka was just okay, I thought. At the distillery, they also sell other products like t-shirts, hats, shot glasses, etc. They also have a bar where you can purchase drinks and just hang out with friends after the tour. The exterior of this place totally threw me off! It looks nothing like a typical distillery but more like a small office. If it wasn't for the small sign that says "Yellow Rose" I would have passed it up! Its Houston's first legal whiskey distillery so I'll let them slide... We came here the tour of the distillery. They had a groupon deal which basically made it come out to $3 a person which is not bad. Tour times start in intervals so I would call ahead before you go! Since we came a bit early, we ended up buying drinks at the bar and waiting around. The bar is in the same room as the gift shop so it's small but it does the job. On the Saturday we went, it got really busy around 3:00. The tour is pretty basic. They walk you through the whiskey making process and you get to see all the equipment. They run a really small operation for now so the equipment isn't as industrial as you may think. You then later see the grain room and bottling room. There isn't too much in these rooms but still interesting to see and hear their story. At the end of the tour you get to try a couple of their products. Overall this is a cool place to check out if you never been to a distillery before. It's cheap, educational, and interesting. You can easily spend 2-3 hours here. read more

Whiskey anyone? First, let me say, my date and I were super excited to go on this tour after reading all the positive reviews. However, the tour did not meet my expectations or live up to my level of excitement. We started with some drinks at the bar while we waited for the next tour to begin. The place started filling up with people as it got closer to the start time. There were probably 20-30 people in our group. And while our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and nice, the tour itself was pretty boring. I was doing more drinking than listening. And to top it off, it was hotter than hades in there. I swear I melted. We tasted about 6 or 7 different whiskeys. But, ultimately my favorite was the maple flavored one. So yummy! I purchased some of the whiskey infused chocolates on the way out and they only lasted one day. They were delicious. read more

If you're looking for a change of pace from the millions and millions of breweries that have sprouted up in Houston, Yellow Rose Distilling is a good choice. Especially if you're a big whiskey or bourbon drinker. As you pull up to Yellow Rose, it looks more like a corporate building than a distillery. As you walk in, there's a small bar and some seating where you can enjoy a whiskey-based cocktail before your tour. The tour was comprehensive and teaches you how whiskey, bourbon, and vodka are made which is pretty cool if you've never been to a distillery. Really puts into perspective how much work goes into making hand-crafted liquor and how much machinery is needed to help the process. Unfortunately, AC is lacking during the tour so it was extremely hot. I did visit in July so take that into consideration but it wasn't pleasant. At the end of the tour, you're given samples of roughly 8 liquors i.e. various whiskeys, flavored whiskeys, vodka, flavored vodka, etc. While the samples are pretty small, it's still a decent amount cumulatively. I would have preferred to have samples throughout the tour rather than waiting for the very end to take them all at once. read more

The tour wasn't incredibly long, and the gift shop was somewhat small, so we didn't opt to buy anything afterwards. Overall, though, we did like Yellow Rose. We arrived at the distillery tonight after buying three tickets online and paying for a 1-hr Uber ride to be told that tours were not occurring and we were not permitted to enter the building. Prior to leaving for the distillery, I called ahead and was greeted by an automated message that stated the distillery was open on Fridays and tours could be booked online. The two Yellow Rose employees we met with at the distillery locked the doors in our faces, refusing to let us in. We requested to use their restrooms and were told they would get fired for accommodating us. They stated that "all they do is make whiskey" and I would need to try to call someone Monday. I expect a full refund to the tickets Yellow Rose charged my credit card for and retribution for the $65 Uber ride or I will be reporting this to the BBB. I take our treatment by your two employees tonight as a representation of your company's low value for its customers and will never buy a Yellow Rose product again. read more

This is a must visit spot if you have family, frat brothers, or others passing through town. While I recommend anyone passing through Tejas drive on down to Shiner for that brewery tour, this distillery tour is much more manageable in a tight spot since it is actually in town; conveniently near (kinda) the Edwards theatre as well as ikea, so if you schedule things right then you can have a productive and pleasant day out and about in town mixed in with some light drinkin'. The tasting room is pretty small, that is true. When we had the elite event here several months ago we were crammed balls to the walls. It got hot and very uncomfortable. Fortunately it was not that packed again, so I don't personally mind it since that was my first introduction to the space - less people than that and I am in a good mood since I have enough room to swing my arms like Raquel Welsh without a problem on all subsequent visits. The bartenders are fantastically pleasant, upbeat, and spirited people. They care about the brand. The tour gives you plenty of information about how all these doohickeys work, as well as additional history about the brand and the City's regulation - such as the food grade room that is required. Highly recommended to bring an out of town guest down here to show them what Houston is all 'bout with their alcohol game. It's not just whiskey - it is vodka too.
