Just in case anyone's seeing this: Yellow Cab has been entirely out of business for several years now. A company called zTrip took over their phone number, but they're not a taxi company; they mainly offer pre-arranged airport trips, and as you can see from some of the comments below, zTrip's services are lackluster to nonexistent. I've reported it as closed, but I don't know how long that'll take to process. Also, just FYI, Austin no longer has ANY traditional taxi companies. The lone option besides Uber & Lyft is Austin Co-op Taxi: while it's a good thing in that it's actually owned by its drivers - and both taxi & rideshare drivers are oftentimes screwed otherwise - nearly all of the cars used for it are old beaters that wouldn't even be *allowed* for use by the rideshare companies. They're also not necessarily easy to discern: unlike traditional taxis, they don't have any "trade dress" - meaning all the standardized lettering on the outside of the vehicle listing its rates, permit number, etc. - and may have no indicators of any sort that they're taxis aside from a removable magnetic sign placed on the side. read more

Friday afternoon, Jan 2, 2025, I needed a ride from my home to a service shop to pick up my car - a ride in urban area of west Austin of about 5 miles, which ordinarily takes about 20-25 minutes. I had 3 hours until the shop would close, so plenty of time (I thought). The Lyft app on my cell phone was not working just then, so I called the phone number (512-452-9999) of the former Yellow Cab - now an automated service called zTrip - to arrange for the ride. I had used zTrip successfully once in 2024. The automated booking worked well. It recognized my phone number and greeted me by name. After a series of simple voice questions (do you want immediate pickup (YES), at your residence (YES), cash or credit (CASH), anything to tell the driver (CALL WHEN YOU ARRIVE)), it confirmed my booking. 45 minutes later I called again for an update. The automated system recognized that I was waiting, but said that no driver had yet been assigned and it would inform dispatch that I had inquired. After a further wait, I called back again: same story, no driver yet assigned, will inform dispatch. This time I made enough noise that the auto system transferred me to dispatch. The dispatcher asked for my destination (the auto system had not asked for it) and said he would try to get a driver. After a further wait, I had become alarmed about having enough time to complete picking up my car before the car shop would close. I called back in and shouted at the auto system for a human being. I was connected to a different dispatch operator. I told the operator that if they did not have a pickup at my house within 15 minutes it would be pointless and I would cancel. 15 minutes later: No pickup. I called back in: No driver has yet been assigned! I shouted at the system to CANCEL and was put on hold in order to talk to a human to cancel! It was now too late to get to the car shop even if a driver had shown up at that very instant. zTrip had THREE HOURS to find a driver and had not the decency to update me. I will NEVER use zTrip again. I fixed the Lyft app on my cell phone. read more

I called another cab company the night before to arrange a pick up for the airport early in the morning. There was a text confirmation, but the next morning...no one returned the text. Thankfully, instead of panicking, I called Austin Yellow Cab Company, and within 5 minutes our driver showed up. He was parked at the W, and happy to drive and get us. (sorry so long!) I have been without wheelchair accessible transportation for over a year and have had to rely on Yellow Cab's accessible taxis to get me around. They are HORRIBLE to people with disabilities, and I literally think I have PTSD from my experiences with them. Even though I reserve my rides way in advance, I have been stranded without with a way home more times then I can remember. And even though it's illegal (and they're supposedly trained on this), almost all of my drivers will start the meter before they strap my wheelchair in (it shows I owe $5 before we even pull off!). I have to call them out on it and make them restart the meter. It's soooo shady that they continuously try to scam people with disabilities who might not know this (or can't speak up). The other day, I scheduled a taxi to pick me up and drop me off at a restaurant to have lunch with friends, but per usual, it was over 30 minutes late. I got to lunch late and had to quickly eat because we also planned to walk across the street and see a movie. Then I had scheduled the taxi to pick me back up at 6:15p and take me home. The movie was awesome and ended around 5:45. We waited for the taxi until 6:30 before we started calling. Dispatch says the taxi is 5 minutes away. We wait till 6:45 and nothing. Call again, they say 3 minutes away. 7p, nothing. We ask for a supervisor this time and he admits they have no available accessible taxis, even though I scheduled one 8 hours earlier! He would try to figure something out, but in the meantime, we had to wait. Around 7:20, the supervisor called back and said he asked a driver getting off to do this one last ride. She agreed and was on her way. After being stranded and cold, this was music to our ears. When Adonna arrived, she got out of the taxi and walked to the back, finally making eye contact with me. I kid you not, she literally stopped in her in her tracks, pulled her hand back mid-reach for the handle (of the back door with the ramp), and was like, "Oh wait, I umm forgot that my ramp is broken and I have an appt to get it fixed in the morning, I'll call dispatch to tell them to send someone else..." She gets back in the taxi and LEAVES us there stranded again! How could you agree to work late in order to pick up someone stranded in a wheelchair and forget your MANUAL ramp was broken?! She didn't even open the door to check. It took a few seconds to shake the shock off, but we called the supervisor again. He apologized and vowed to figure it out. After what seemed like forever, he called back and said he had found an accessible taxi that was headed our way, but it was still 15 minutes out. At this point, we couldn't care less about the time. Just get us home already! Of course, the driver got lost on his way over, but when we saw that yellow cab, we were stoked! It was short-lived, though, because when I got in the taxi, I noticed he had illegally started the meter. By the time he strapped my chair down and got back in the taxi, the meter already read $5.70 (he hadn't even put in drive yet!), so I told him it was illegal and he needed to restart it. Thankfully he did. The rest of the ride home was uneventful, and I got home! We had left my apartment at 1 o'clock in the afternoon and walked back in at 8 o'clock pm just to have lunch and see a movie! Disgusting and discriminatory. read more

-1 star. This company is full of cheaters and liars. We arrived on Tuesdays for a conference. When we arrived at our hotel from the airport the price on the meter was $30.50 but when he put the amount into the system on his phone to be paid he charged me more than what the meter said. I saw this paid it and got out without leaving a tip. I will never use this taxi service again. When I gave them an unsatisfied review for over charging me. The driver said I was a liar and that I was stupid for paying if it was different from the meter. Don't use...next time I don't care if I have to walk some distance. This company is trash and so is their app ztrip. This is the second day I've had to wait outside with my two infants in this ugly weather. It showed the driver almost at my location then all of a sudden. I had to make a new reservation. What!!!! I had one ordered an HR ago!!!! Now my kids are too late to go to daycare and I have to miss my 2nd day of work !!! Never again will my family, friends, or myself use your horrible company. To top it off the lady with dispatch can't even understand English and couldn't comprehend what I was telling her... Trash company Uber and Lyft are so much better!!! This review is about the zTrip app, and their purported advance booking process.  On two recent occasions, I booked hours in advance.  But when the pickup time came, the app informed me that "we're a bit busy now, trying to locate a driver...."  Neither of these occasions was during rush hour, inclement weather, or any other time of high demand.  I can only conclude that the booking is ignored until pickup time.  I want to support Yellow cab drivers - they've always been courteous and professional - but it's hard to imagine why I would ever use the zTrip app again. read more

I was in Austin Yellow Cab #188 on this past Monday morning, May 17. I had reserved a cab online for 10AM. It arrived at my house at 9:56AM. It started honking at my house when it arrived. I went out and told him we would be in the cab at 10AM and to quiet down and wait. When I arrived in the cab at 10:01AM there was $7.50 on the meter for his waiting for me. I ordered the cab for 10AM. On the way to our destination he ran a red light on Guadalupe Street and was unable to discern right from left when we offered / his GPS offered directions. When we arrived at our destination I told him he had overcharged me and that I was on time for the cab. He refused to change the total. I informed him I would be reporting this. Just called and cancelled my pre-booked 4 am cab pick up from Yellow Cab in Austin. It's 410am. I called to ask where the 4am cab was, and was told no cabs were available but if I wanted to wait 20-30 minutes a cab MIGHT be available. Was transferred to dispatch but no answer. AVOID! read more

Called for a cab and asked that it arrived at 11:30 so I could get to the airport on time. Got a call at 11:20 from a very nice driver who apologized but said something happened with my call in the system (I guess another driver picked it up and then rejected it?), and he was 20 minutes away. Called distribution back and the woman was very rude and said they couldn't do anything about it. Use Fasten instead - they saved me from missing my flight! read more

Nobody home. Summoned cab 2 hours in advance through their app at 4:30 on a Saturday afternoon. For two hours the app said the cab would arrive in 15 minutes. Finally decided to drive my own car. After the 2 hours was up the app had a red notice indicating 'no pickup booking'. They never came. Thank you Austin City Council for reminding me why Lyft and Uber were so successful and what it was like before they came. You suck. read more

HORRIBLE service and they LIED to me. On a Friday, I booked a wheelchair accessible cab for the following Tuesday at noon. On Monday, I called Yellow Cab and confirmed the Tuesday pickup with a wheelchair accessible cab. So, what did they do? On Tuesday, they sent a 4-door sedan. What the ####? I called Yellow Cab, they said the van was on the way. Fifteen minutes later I got a text saying they were still trying to find a driver. LIARS!!! I cancelled the cab and will never use them again. Wow . . . I just had a really weird run-in with Yellow Cab Company. I was coming out of a parking lot in Hyde Park with my blinker on to turn left when their driver from Cab #98 just bumbled out in front of my car without even looking before crossing. He honestly looked and acted intoxicated as he walked right in front of me as I was pulling out. It startled me but I was going 2mph coming out of the parking lot so it wasn't a big deal. Then, as I proceeded and turned left, he just walked out in front of my car a second time, crossing the street. How crazy. To top it off, he punched my car really hard and then decided to start yelling profanities at me. I was too shaken to get out of my car and see if he caused any major damage, but I can guarantee you that I don't want anybody who's either (a) intoxicated (b) has anger issues, or (c) doesn't know how to follow safety rules driving me around Austin. Our experience is a perfect example of why taxis are a dying breed. We had been using Uber all weekend (first time we've tried it) and for the most part it had been great. We needed a cab from our hotel to the airport at 5:15 am and didn't know if Ubers were plentiful at that time, so we reserved a Yellow Cab. He was there early as we came down at 5:08 and he gestured for us to load our suitcases. We said that we might have one more person, so while we appreciated him being early, we couldn't leave before 5:15. At exactly 5:14 (BEFORE our reservation departure time), we hopped in to leave. The driver had been running the meter the whole time. We protested that we made it clear that the meter should start at our scheduled pickup. He said no: meter starts when luggage goes in the car. We were already up to $7 and it wasn't even our pickup and departure time. We argued back and forth about this and he wouldn't budge. We said that if he wasn't going to reset the meter, then let us out. He did. We grabbed an Uber (actually they were plentiful at that hour) and had a great ride to the airport. The sad thing is this is not atypical. If cabbies don't get their act together and realize that their SHIT customer service doesn't cut it anymore, they are doomed. The writing is on the wall. I should be in San Francisco right now. But I'm not. I'm in Austin writing a review, because my new flight doesn't leave for another eight hours, and I've got nothing but time. I had requested a taxi at 3:30 this afternoon for an address just south of downtown. Apparently, I didn't give them nearly enough lead time. Admittedly, Yellow Cab did eventually show up. They arrived just as I finished rebooking my flight, over an hour late. Someone at Yellow Cab owes me a $380 rebooking fee. read more

I wanted to update this review out of fairness. When we returned from our trip, both of our phones were dead upon landing in Austin (almost 11pm) so we just hit the cab stand. And lo' and behold, it was Yellow Cab again...ugh. Well, I asked the driver about the rate and he had a printed placquard that DID say they charged per 1/5 of a mile (odd, but that's their policy I guess), although while we were at a light the meter moved (hmmm). It did end up costing us a bit less than our original ride to the airport (still too much for a 10mi trip which was almost entirely expressway), but I wanted to be sure to update. Plan ahead (ie, make sure your phone is charged) and see if you can make alternative arrangements. So many transportation options in Austin, paying a premium to Yellow Cab makes no sense. read more

I've taken Yellow Cab about three times now over the past month. This time last year I couldn't get the app to work on my android phone but I changed to an iPhone this year and the app seems to work fine. One advantage is that you can actually enter the address you're at and the cab will come directly to that location. I had a recent 'Fare' experience that I'm about to write about as well that was less than stellar. Why? Because they went to the wrong address because they use the internet to 'sense' where you are and they were very wrong. The distance I was going is about 2 miles and they charged me $15. But not Yellow Cab! It was only $10 for those 2.3 miles during rush hour traffic. (When isn't it rush hour traffic in Austin?!?) I'm new to ride sharing but have used cabs in this town for a long time. I never got to use Lyft or Uber because they took their toys and went home leaving our market wide open to other ride sharing services and of course the cab companies. But each and every time I have summoned a ride using the app Yellow Cab have been to my location in 15 minutes or less. The last time it was 2 minutes when I was at work. In regards to Yellow Cab, I haven't really got to use their "future pick-up" feature outside of setting one up and then cancelling it because I got off early and needed the cab their sooner than later. But when I cancelled it and ordered a new one it was there in 2 minutes! Maybe I'm just lucky but 3 times now I've been able to take a cab to or from work and over to other locations as well. Maybe I'm just needing them as good times of day. (I work an afternoon/evening shift.) There are a couple of other ride sharing places I do plan to try and those apps are already added to my phone. But my experience with two of them (including Yellow Cab) has been night and day as far as cost but both of them got me where I was going. So far so good! And that's the important part, getting where you're going for a reasonable price. For me, the lowest price is going to win overall. read more

We are frequently unable to book a cab from various central locations, including South Lamar, Central East Austin, Downtown North or South of the River. One night I got in a cab with a friend at Highball (S. Lamar and Gibson St.). I told him where I lived before I ever got in the cab. The cab driver dropped my friend off at his house near S. Congress and Oltorf then proceeded to South to my house on Westgate, near Central Market. He told me that he could make a lot more money if I would just get out of the cab so he could go pick more people up. He literally made me get out of the cab in the middle of a strange neighborhood in the middle of the night (1:30AM). I reported him to Yellow Cab. They said this was illegal. They said they had his GPS info and said they'd follow up. I called many times with no resolution. They did nothing about the incident. One Thusrday night, we booked a Yellow cab just South of the river on Lamar at 9PM. We waited 45 minutes and nothing came. I walked home from Paggi House that night in heels. One wednesday night, I tried to book a Yellow cab from my friend's house on East 12th street. It is a 2 minute drive from downtown. I waited 1.5 hours for a cab - nothing came. I called the cab company and the representative said, "I'm sorry no taxis are available at this time." I asked him when one would be available. He replied "I'm sorry, no taxis are available at this time." I asked him why not, etc., etc... Yellow Cab is unreliable and dangerous. Now that we have Uber in Austin, I will never use Yellow Cab again. read more

Not Sure if I reached Yellow Cab or not. When I called to schedule a pick up the automated system said that this was "z trip". Don't have any idea what or who will show up. Guess I should have used the app. I tried to call back to add details for my ride, but the automated system told me that due to call volumes it'll be another 30 to 60 minutes before someone might pick up. Earlier today I was stuck in Zilker in one of our little rainstorms that we've become accustomed to lately. I called in for a cab with room for my bike and she said she'd have one there soon. I continued chilling out beneath my tree as I attempted to stay dry. Twenty minutes in and no sight of a cab, so I called the number back. The automated system recognized my number and gave me a message about still searching for a cab for me and I should call back in 5 min. So I continued this for the next 15-20 minutes until I just gave up and rode home in the pouring rain. I know, I know it is very much a first world problem: "I had to ride my bike home in the rain because my cab never came". I don't know why I keep using Yellow Cab. This is the 3rd time I have ordered a cab using the online service that never showed. In all cases, I received a confirmation Order Reference number online. No confirmation email showed. When I call to check, they have no record of the Order. They try to dispatch a cab. I am now late for the airport!!! I tried their iPhone App at one point. It did not understand or accept "Airport" as a destination, so it never could create a booking. Fail! read more

After spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars with Austin yellow cab over the previous 6 months they essentially shafted me the last 2 times, the last time in particular they never bothered to show up at all (I made an advance reservation). While they do not guarantee their cabs to be on time, it is unacceptable to me that a consistent and strong customer such as myself was shown such disregard both in execution and in response to my feedback... Which was civil. There is a new product called UBER that a friend told me about last night when I expressed my concern about actually getting a ride to the airport. Yellow cab, you no longer have me over a barrel. The other service was fast and friendly and very convenient. Perhaps now that there is legitimate competition you may begin to value your customers again... Although I hear that you all are fighting them through the City Council. Good luck! I needed a ride to airport 30 minutes before leaving and usually use UBER. But since UBER isn't in Austin, I Googled cabs in Austin and the Yelp reviews were awful. With this in mind, I called the restaurant next to where we were staying and they recommended Yellow Cab. The review was not good, but didn't have many options. I called Nicole (x6326) and stressed that we had to be leaving in 30 minutes to make our flight. At first, she didn't know if said could help. I told her we didn't have any other options. She put me on hold a second, and although the don't guarantee an ETA (weird, I know) they said a car would come and she did everything she could to make it work. Sure enough. Update: OK, I had to use them for a fourth time yesterday to get me to Go Greene Auto. They are really fast at getting to your location, and I honestly don't even remember the drive as the driver and myself were talking about my work for the city, and his taking classes. If it's a good experience, please remember to tip your driver. I found out that the drivers are independent contractors, and pay Yellow cab a monthly fee to drive under their name and insurance. I apologize to all the haters out there, but I think a great experience should be noted. ---------------------------------- My car has been in the shop and I've used the "HailaCab" app. I've used them three time to get me back and forth from Riverside to Slaughter and the reverse. I called them back up today to get me from work to my auto place. I can only say that they are prompt, courteous, and don't ask for a tip. I do what is right, and always do. read more

I scheduled a 3:45 am pick-up from my home to go to the airport the day before. This was a weekday.There was no taxi at 3:55 am, so I called the dispatcher. She told me that there is no cab available at present. I responded that I had set this up the day before. Her reply was that they don't assign a cabbie beforehand. At the time of the pick-up they see who was available, which in my case was nobody. Pretty desperate, I scheduled a Lyft pick-up. A car showed up at my house within 15 minutes. I had to catch a plane at 0600 yesterday and had called the previous day to reserve a yellow cab for 0400. I started calling when they weren't there at 0400 was told, "ah, we don't have any cabs in that area and are trying but, ah, I don't know what time we can be there...". Long story short, and several phone calls later they finally had a cab available at 0530 and I missed my plane. Never again Yellow Cab. read more

After insisting more than 10 times, I can't still get a bloody receipt for my cab ride 2 weeks ago. "Just swipe the card and enter the email address on the phone. You'll get the receipt on your email". Never happened. I'm still trying to find out if/how I can report them to the IRS for not meeting the obligation to pass a receipt. Oh, and in the meantime I found out that the journey was longer than it had to be, because the driver didn't know the faster route and didn't want to follow the Google Maps I printed it for him. 10 extra USD for a scenic drive... read more

I requested cab service twice tonight, the first driver was the nicest driver I have ever seen. He also came to my place extreme quickly. The second request I made, no one ever came. I called yellow cab three times, every time they just say sorry, I will have the cab driver near by to pick you up. Then, almost 2 hours passed. Yeah! Friday night in downtown! This would be ZERO if Yelp! would allow it The best and only tip I can offer is to never use this cab company to do anything, ever. They are really excellent at: being horribly late, not at all informative, completely unhelpful, and totally and utterly incompetent. They are TERRIBLE at: showing up on time, notifying you of nearly 1 hour delays, and figuring out how to get their drivers from point A to point B without completely screwing it up. All in all, it is a pretty great experience if you're looking to get angry, annoyed, and totally disappointed in their ability to perform the basic function of being a taxi service: picking up customers. read more

I agree! The worst taxi service I've ever used. My wife used them last night and he took the longest rout, disregarded stops signs ( I don't mean rolling stops. I mean DISREGARD ) and then wouldn't acknowledge her when she asked him about it. read more
