We didn't want to leave our car parked at the Austin airport for 2 weeks, and knew we'd be jet-lagged on our return. I feel fortunate to have found A Cheap Ride and Pat Johnson. As it turned out, our first experience with Pat showed exactly how good he is. Our British Airways flight outbound was delayed, but we received little information on our end as to the reason for the delay or how late the flight might be. Coincidentally, Pat was expecting to pick up a passenger on the inbound non-stop from LHR (which was obviously delayed as well). Through Pat, we found out more than we were able to get online from the carrier! We were also delayed on our return flight, but Pat was there waiting in baggage claim for us. His service is simply over the top. We enjoyed conversing with Pat as he drove. Since he's been in the Austin/Round Rock area for many years, he's accumulated a wealth of knowledge about the area, local people, and local businesses. His retention of information and attention to detail are amazing. And while he's a careful and cautious driver, he made excellent time getting us to and from the airport. Pat is very much in touch with his customers, knows his business well, and cares about the quality of service his company provides. He is an excellent communicator, so you can feel confident that he will keep you informed as to when you'll be picked up. And, most importantly in this type of business, he is reliable, punctual, and does exactly what he says he will. I highly recommend A Cheap Ride for an excellent experience.

Years ago, I stumbled upon them on complete accident - funny how life works out. I had a very last-minute trip and needed a ride to the airport. I contemplated Uber but didn't trust their driver availability for an early morning flight. Pat promptly returned my call and I booked our first trip with him. We later found out he does field his own calls so he may not answer the phone if he is driving (which I appreciated when I was in the car). As others have mentioned, Pat is a great conversationalist and a wealth of information. Having grown up in the area, he knows it like the back of his hand. On a more recent airport trip, my SO discovered he forgot something, and Pat offered to make a stop at the store so we could buy it before we departed. This gesture alone demonstrates how above and beyond he is willing to go to make sure you have everything you need. Not only that, but he knew exactly where a store was when we were driving on a random section of Toll road. And there I was in the backseat still trying to pull up my Google Maps. It is his consistent attention to detail that we most appreciate. He texts us the day before pickup so we can sleep well knowing he'll be there tomorrow. He keeps an eye on our flight status and will text if there's any delays. He also keeps an eye on TSA wait times so we know what to expect when we get to the airport. And of course, all his cars are spotless, well-maintained and sanitized between each trip. The short of it is that this is a locally-owned business I am glad to continue to support for years to come. Thanks for your punctuality and professionalism at all the ungodly hours of the morning. See you on our next trip in a few months or so!

Just in case anyone's seeing this: Yellow Cab has been entirely out of business for several years…read morenow. A company called zTrip took over their phone number, but they're not a taxi company; they mainly offer pre-arranged airport trips, and as you can see from some of the comments below, zTrip's services are lackluster to nonexistent. I've reported it as closed, but I don't know how long that'll take to process. Also, just FYI, Austin no longer has ANY traditional taxi companies. The lone option besides Uber & Lyft is Austin Co-op Taxi: while it's a good thing in that it's actually owned by its drivers - and both taxi & rideshare drivers are oftentimes screwed otherwise - nearly all of the cars used for it are old beaters that wouldn't even be *allowed* for use by the rideshare companies. They're also not necessarily easy to discern: unlike traditional taxis, they don't have any "trade dress" - meaning all the standardized lettering on the outside of the vehicle listing its rates, permit number, etc. - and may have no indicators of any sort that they're taxis aside from a removable magnetic sign placed on the side.

Friday afternoon, Jan 2, 2025, I needed a ride from my home to a service shop to pick up my car - a…read moreride in urban area of west Austin of about 5 miles, which ordinarily takes about 20-25 minutes. I had 3 hours until the shop would close, so plenty of time (I thought). The Lyft app on my cell phone was not working just then, so I called the phone number (512-452-9999) of the former Yellow Cab - now an automated service called zTrip - to arrange for the ride. I had used zTrip successfully once in 2024. The automated booking worked well. It recognized my phone number and greeted me by name. After a series of simple voice questions (do you want immediate pickup (YES), at your residence (YES), cash or credit (CASH), anything to tell the driver (CALL WHEN YOU ARRIVE)), it confirmed my booking. 45 minutes later I called again for an update. The automated system recognized that I was waiting, but said that no driver had yet been assigned and it would inform dispatch that I had inquired. After a further wait, I called back again: same story, no driver yet assigned, will inform dispatch. This time I made enough noise that the auto system transferred me to dispatch. The dispatcher asked for my destination (the auto system had not asked for it) and said he would try to get a driver. After a further wait, I had become alarmed about having enough time to complete picking up my car before the car shop would close. I called back in and shouted at the auto system for a human being. I was connected to a different dispatch operator. I told the operator that if they did not have a pickup at my house within 15 minutes it would be pointless and I would cancel. 15 minutes later: No pickup. I called back in: No driver has yet been assigned! I shouted at the system to CANCEL and was put on hold in order to talk to a human to cancel! It was now too late to get to the car shop even if a driver had shown up at that very instant. zTrip had THREE HOURS to find a driver and had not the decency to update me. I will NEVER use zTrip again. I fixed the Lyft app on my cell phone.

SCAM ALERT! Avoid hiring GEORGETOWN TAXI AND LIMO at all costs!! I hired them for a 12 person…read moresprinter van on Friday for a ride to and from Austin with a group of friends. They gave me a deal cause it was last minute but they told me because of that I had to pay them upfront in CASH APP. I should have known better but they said they've been in business 30 years and they needed that cause it was discounted. So it made sense to me. I paid them $300 upfront. All of us were gonna pitch in for it. They CANCELLED on me 10 minutes before they were supposed to pick up. They didnt even provide a different vehicle or any other option. They said they would refund my money immediately. They didnt. And now they are ghosting my calls and texts and nobody is getting back to me. Turns out I looked deeper into they have scammed several people. They are representing Georgetown as their "local limo" service. Mistakes happen and I am understanding but as a business owner you always take care of the customer when problems happen or at least pick up their calls. I feel so burned.

So the greyhound said if I could get him to Austin they can get him a ticket so I call this place they charge me $126. The gentleman that answered was quick to send me text and the cash app. So another bus heading to Dallas pulled up and took my husband with them so called to cancel before they even showed up. Then gentlemen tells me they are just about to pull up so I tell him that if he could charge me for the trip just for going to the store. Let me tell you this gentleman says let me see I'll call you back so wait 30 min nothing so I am calling and calling he ain't answering I even send him a text. It took him about an hour to answer my phone call. When I finally get to talk to him, he tells me that they don't refund the money but that he would talk to his manager who won't be in the office until next week and then they would return my call. No phone at all and we are already in January and I went on the website and nowhere does it say anything about no refund on cancellation. I can't believe this company literally took my money and did not even give me any service I got scammed big time. I should of read the reviews first I can't believe that these people could actually do this but I would never recommend this company to anyone. He sends me the text I told him I'm making sure I have the right bus station he sent me the photo. I even sent him the photo of my husband and his number so he could call him when he was there I removed only those two items off the message
