My husband and I recently moved to Round Rock and had an international trip planned a few months later. We didn't want to leave our car parked at the Austin airport for 2 weeks, and knew we'd be jet-lagged on our return. I feel fortunate to have found A Cheap Ride and Pat Johnson. As it turned out, our first experience with Pat showed exactly how good he is. Our British Airways flight outbound was delayed, but we received little information on our end as to the reason for the delay or how late the flight might be. Coincidentally, Pat was expecting to pick up a passenger on the inbound non-stop from LHR (which was obviously delayed as well). Through Pat, we found out more than we were able to get online from the carrier! We were also delayed on our return flight, but Pat was there waiting in baggage claim for us. His service is simply over the top. We enjoyed conversing with Pat as he drove. Since he's been in the Austin/Round Rock area for many years, he's accumulated a wealth of knowledge about the area, local people, and local businesses. His retention of information and attention to detail are amazing. And while he's a careful and cautious driver, he made excellent time getting us to and from the airport. Pat is very much in touch with his customers, knows his business well, and cares about the quality of service his company provides. He is an excellent communicator, so you can feel confident that he will keep you informed as to when you'll be picked up. So this is a long overdue review for a business that sets the bar for what all other transportation services should be. Years ago, I stumbled upon them on complete accident - funny how life works out. I had a very last-minute trip and needed a ride to the airport. I contemplated Uber but didn't trust their driver availability for an early morning flight. Pat promptly returned my call and I booked our first trip with him. We later found out he does field his own calls so he may not answer the phone if he is driving (which I appreciated when I was in the car). As others have mentioned, Pat is a great conversationalist and a wealth of information. Having grown up in the area, he knows it like the back of his hand. On a more recent airport trip, my SO discovered he forgot something, and Pat offered to make a stop at the store so we could buy it before we departed. This gesture alone demonstrates how above and beyond he is willing to go to make sure you have everything you need. Not only that, but he knew exactly where a store was when we were driving on a random section of Toll road. And there I was in the backseat still trying to pull up my Google Maps. It is his consistent attention to detail that we most appreciate. He texts us the day before pickup so we can sleep well knowing he'll be there tomorrow. He keeps an eye on our flight status and will text if there's any delays. He also keeps an eye on TSA wait times so we know what to expect when we get to the airport. And of course, all his cars are spotless, well-maintained and sanitized between each trip. The short of it is that this is a locally-owned business I am glad to continue to support for years to come. Great deal! Pat is an excellent person, great conversationalist, and is one of those people that are so interesting. It is up to you, if you want to sit and watch the world go by in silence that's cool. If, however, you feel like chatting, then buckle up, because Pat is a great conversationalist and your trip to the airport will go by in a flash and you will arrive having learned something. Five minutes early to pick me up, and made it to airport in record time (without speeding). What is the coolest is that he has made the airport trip thousands (literally) of times at all times of day, so he knows exactly which route to take depending on the time. By happenstance, I was introduced to Ivan through my hotel in Round Rock this past week. I needed transportation to downtown Austin for SXSW throughout my entire stay and I have to say...Ivan was WAY more than accommodating. He made himself available to drive my colleague and I whenever and wherever we needed. When he couldn't personally make us, he sent another driver who was just as courteous and attentive to our needs. We used A Cheap Ride for a trip from Temple to Austin Airport. Pat was responsive, honest, and prompt. He returned my initial contact quickly, reconfirmed the night before, and showed up right on time. His vehicle was clean and comfortable and easily fit our three large suitcases and two carryon bags. He drove safely and, since we were early, even took us on a quick side trip to see some longhorns right near the airport. I had originally scheduled Super Shuttle for all our transportation needs but after seeing how quickly the cost adds up I googled "affordable transportation Austin." I can't say enough good things about Pat and "A Cheap Ride". Some friends and I recently visited my sister and her boyfriend in Round Rock, TX (just outside of Austin). Pat drove us to Austin twice and to Georgetown once - he is an extremely friendly, courteous and reliable driver. His van is comfortable, spacious and gleaming. I felt completely safe at all times. He knows the area like the back of his hand (no GPS required). He's pleasant to chat with and can tell you anything you ever wanted to know about Texas. It is an honor and a privilege to write this review..and I can't believe I am the first person to write one! My boyfriend and I moved to Round Rock a couple of months ago and were disappointed to be 30 minutes away from Austin. We love to go out and have a good time and were wondering how that would be possible without obtaining any criminal charges against us!! What a lucky break it was that my google search led me to Pat at "A Cheap Ride".....because of Pat we have had an amazing time here and have had many safe and dependable rides to and from Round Rock to Austin. Pat has been living in this area for his entire life and his love for Texas and knowledge of it is truly amazing. The first time he brought us intown was during Austin City Limits weekend and he took us on a 20 minute tour of the downtown area at no extra charge just because he wanted us to have the best night possible. During that time he could have clearly made an extra fare but chose to give us a fun and informative tour which in turn helped to shape the rest of our time here. Another night we called him at the last minute to bring 6 of us downtown....and because of a prior commitment he told us he would be more than happy to bring us down to 6th street but couldn't bring us home. I called around and found that all Austin cabs could not put more than 4 people in a cab due to a city ordinance so we would have to take two cabs home. I called Pat to see if he had any suggestions...and guess what? He made a phone call and arranged for us to get a safe ride home with one of his employees, saving us heaps of money and aggravation! Last weekend my sister and two friends came into town...and Pat drove us around all weekend long! He was so flexible and accommodating.... we kept changing our plans and times for pick up and he couldn't have been nicer or more flexible. I have never written a yelp review before but wanted to do this as a way of thanking Pat for all his wonderful and professional service. He is truly an amazing person in addition to being a great businessman. Always on time, always friendly, always willing to go out of his way to make your life a little easier.....and did I mention the rate is set so you don't have to worry about that meter ticking during high traffic hour on I-35??? My son was stranded with no-ride in Austin and had to get to court in Georgetown (ticket)... I spent 3 hours on the phone with every taxi-service in this site... All of them wanted to charge outrageous prices (triple digits) plus they all warned me that they also had waiting fees if traffic was encountered..It was a bad situation! And then... Pat fell from heaven (wait I thought there was no heaven but now...) I explained the situation to him and not only did he take my son all the way to Georgetown so he could go to court and fix the issue but he reassured me that he would take care of him and he sure did! As a first-time visitor to Texas from the UK I didn't know how to make my trip from Dallas to Blanco but Pat massively helped me out and gave me a lift to and from Blanco back to Austin. Two years ago I had a dear friend visit from Ohio. I was living in an apartment on the 3rd. floor with 38 steps to go up and down. My friend had slight disabilities from a brain tumor surgery and it would've been quite a feat for her to carry her luggage down those steps by herself . I couldn't miss another day of work so we started searching for transportation .She had always used taxi cabs and I suggested she try a different and newer way to get to the airport . I had seen the great reviews of A Cheap Ride and she called Pat. He was on time and took her luggage down for her. We were so grateful for his kindness. If you ever in Round Rock and need a ride to Austin. Look for Pat, from Cheap Ride, hell of a guy. Reasonable prices and great service he will do his best to help you save some money. He save me a lot of money with his advice. You won't find that in any other regular taxi driver. His going to take care of you. For example, I called him to pick me up from my hotel at 11am. He was right there at 11am Im willing bet if I would of told him at 10:59am he would of been there at 10:59am. I told him to drop me off to Austin Airport so i can get my rental car. So we get to the airport and offers to take me to inside of the airport to look for Alamo car rental. Thats service that you cant find anywhere else. After, the jerks in Alamo told me that they couldn't give me a car cause i didn't have a credit card. Pat, told me to look on some websites for cheap rentals. He was there with me for almost 2 hours until I finally got a rental but it wasn't on the airport. Pat was willingly to take me to the other car rental place which was a little far but he did not charge me for it. He only charge for the initial charge taking me to the airport.
