In the pantheon of LA dive bars, the Rustic stands alone, somehow straddling the requisite dark & secretive atmosphere of a Scorsese mob meeting with the openness of a cheery breakfast spot where everyone's welcome to coffee while waiting. The staff is friendly and chatty, and the crowd upbeat without being raucous. The jukebox plays good tunes, and the drinks are properly poured. What's not to like? Well, the prices are a bit out of line for the atmosphere, with 6 of their famous wings costing you $14. Jameson Black Barrel was $15 for a shot, about $5 higher than the going rate. I get it: there are a bunch of trendy places on the street charging top dollar, and the Rustic is following suit, using their well-worn decor as their "theme." Clever, as a new place built from scratch might pay a million bucks to create the look they already have. But here's the thing: I stopped in on my way between Pasadena and an event in Hollywood, thinking I'd have a bite here -- and, while I'm happy to splurge on a good meal, I thought, "Do I really want to spend $50 on bar food served on paper plates?" If I had been out with a group for a night of partying, of course I would have happily gone along with it; but this time, riding solo, my answer was no. Yeah idk man this place is going downhill. The entire table service system doesn't make sense, especially outside. You'll go to the bar, be told to go sit down and wait... for a long time. It takes legit 20-30 minutes before anyone comes to the table, then rinse and repeat for any refills. It's also just quite expensive for what it is. This place is a large dive bar... it's supposed to at least be affordable if not cheap. Not here. This is a very cool down-to-earth bar. Call it a "dive" bar, if you must, but it is really a neighborhood bar. It is casual and comfortable. I tried the wings and, while I have not had all the wings in Los Angeles, these cannot be the best. I ordered them extra crispy and they came crispy and with plenty of sauce. They were good wings but not amazing. At our server's suggestion, I ordered them "suicide" style, which is not on the menu, and which is apparently hotter than the "hot" style. They were not unbearably hot but my lips did tickle for about an hour after eating them. You can get them with either ranch or blue cheese or both. I got both but preferred the blue cheese. We also tried the zucchini sticks and you get a huge basket of them. They were delicious and sounded kind of healthy. I am sure they were not healthy, especially after we dipped them in ranch and marinara sauce, but I am also sure they are healthier than smoking cigarettes so there is that. There are lots of televisions and the Dodgers' fans definitely congregate here. If you want a seat to watch a game, come early or be shut out. Our server was great and we could see all the servers working very hard. There is plenty of free parking in the lot but make sure you get a (free) pass from your server to place on your dash so you can park longer than one hour. Love this spot for a strong drink and a good late night snack! Sheila the bartender makes us feel right at home. They will tune the tv to your favorite team if they can, and they even have board games you can use! Originally came for the "Myrtle Burger" after reading about the place in the LA Times 'Food Section' -for those old enough to remember when there WERE such things as daily newspapers :) they were good. Liked the vibe, and it became a frequent 'watering hole' when working in Valley, Burbank, Glendale..and me living in Long Beach..a great place to wait for the worst of afternoon traffic to dissapate. The service here is absolutely incredible and easy on the eyes. Shoutout to the bartender Zach for making the best cocktails! Amazing sour whiskey. Food delicious. Wings are out of control with a healthy serving of carrots and celery. My favorite dipping sauce is the blue cheese ranch. If you like pickles, the deep fried pickles are great. There's plenty of parking. Inside is dimly lit and they have different shows playing in screens in the background. I heard once in a while celebrities drop by. This places is horrible. They are racist. They kept on asking us if we wanted to pay when we weren't even finished with our food. We had just got served. It was skinny tall Caucasian female. And on top of that bad service and bad attitude. The man at the bar charged my friend $10 extra for a pitcher and got his own tip. I've been going to the Rustic for years and years and never thought to write a review. First of all this place does have the best wings. I go specifically for them. It has always been a great place to hang. Though, since the pandemic the prices for the quality aren't matching up. Wings and a couple beers are way too expensive now. Before I would go every week. Because of how much they charge, the service that has drastically changed for the worse I have slimmed it down to only going 1x every couple months. I was there the other night and when I say bad service I mean bad service. We kept having to get up to go to the bar to get another drink while we were sitting outside. When the waitress did come by she was less than helpful. The only time she actually engaged was when we went to close our bill and I'm assuming that's because the tip factor. I just wish this place was what it was before the pandemic. It used to be great, now it's less than mediocre. Also the male bartender ... kind of an a**. Yes, this restaurant has the best wings in LA. They are crispy, flavorful buffalo wings with great blue cheese dip. A great spot not too far from DTLA to get chicken and beer with your friends. But, my overall experience from coming multiple times, the service is terrible. Customers could not stand to order drinks at the bar and take them to their table even when things seemed slow and the servers were no where to be seen. The food would take 30-45 minutes to an hour to come out. As it's a dive bar, it can take a little longer for a server to show up. Ye Rustic Inn is a classic L.A. dive bar gem. Great wings, cold beers, and a chill, no-frills vibe that's perfect for catching a game or hanging with friends. They have a patio in the open air in the front along the parking lot area. Dark, woodsy charm and strong drinks give it old-school character. A true Echo Park staple. Long live the jukebox. This was the starting and finishing point on our birthday bar crawl. I'm giving two stars because our group got kicked out at the end. Decided this was going to be my group's stomping grounds while we were taking classes together. Not normally a dive bar kind of person but here goes: For the location, I'd say the fish and chips and Reuben are pretty solid choices. That along with $29 pitchers are a pretty good deal for a good time with large parties. You will need to open a tab via the QR code. While you can sit inside for the dive bar experience, outside is defenitely better for bigger groups. Though they will start shuffling people inside after 10pm. It's within walking distance for us. Parking in the plaza isn't too bad but if you do drive. You might need to find street parking. read more

I have been coming to this bar for 20+ years and every time I come here they overcharged me. They are actually known for it amongst all my friends and community. Make sure you check your bill! Even though I pointed it out to the waitress they still overcharged me for the higher amount. She added an order of wings that we never ordered to our check. It's the extra $20 +5 dollar tip that really adds up and I think is only reason they've managed to stay in business this long! However, today I had the worst experience I've ever had. An entire cup of beer was spilled on me, and instead of a sincere apology, I was told, "At least you get a free beer." It was humiliating and completely unprofessional. As a Hispanic woman, I truly felt disrespected and treated differently because of my ethnicity. What should have been a simple mistake turned into one of the most embarrassing and upsetting experiences I've had at a restaurant. Sadly, after years of loyalty, I will not be returning. I've been to this place a few times and it's quickly become my favorite neighborhood bar since I've moved to Los Feliz. The location is great. Right on Hillhurst Ave-- with parking! When you get inside, you find a table and order. Menus are online. It's a no frills dive bar that feels very homey. I always usually get wings and beer here. There are several beers on tap. Yes, the wings are really THAT good. Crisped to perfection and not too saucy. I get the medium heat and it's just the right amount of spicy for me. It comes with a couple carrot and celery pieces. Great Vibes All Around! My partner and I came here and had an amazing time. The wings were fire, the service was excellent, and the margaritas were top-tier. The fried pickles? Definitely a must-try! However, the last time I came it took over half an hour for the waiter to wait our table & my friend had gone to ask the bar and was told to just wait for the waiter. The only rustic thing about this place is the janky porch. It's very disconcerting to not be able to talk to a bartender to order a drink, but instead have to go through a bot with a POS AFTER scanning a QR code for the menu. It's a dive bar- why is it so hard to have a one page paper menu or just have the menu chalked on the wall? could be kitch, but really it just feels more like tech laziness courtesy of Toast. The wings are fine, but nothing extraordinary. Better than bad, I guess? Dive bars aren't just sort of rough and tumble places, they require bartenders with a gift of gab and a bit of homey snark to add to the overall ambiance. I rarely write bad reviews if I even have before. I used to come to this place all the time for many years. After everything reopened from COVID, I heard many stories about this place going downhill. A lot of old regulars stopped going. I decided to give it a chance last night anyway. I was having some beers and shots with a friend and my girl. It was his birthday. At the end of the night, I received my tab. It was quite a lot. I said to my girl "Man, this place has gotten really expensive. I can see why it's been going downhill." Instead of explaining the drink tab and breaking down the cost. Giving reasons why it was the amount, being professional, the bartender actually became mad at me. She even had the nerve in saying I insulted her for being a woman. My girl was kind enough to stick up for me by saying I didn't say anything remotely close to that. Personally, I would never say anything like that either. Then my girl explained to the bartender that I wasn't even criticizing her service as a bartender rather the restaurant and that I had the right to state my opinion as a customer. I wasn't even stating my opinion to the bartender at the time but to my friend. Thank god my girl was with me to witness what this woman was saying and accusing me of saying because she only had two drinks the entire night. It's a shame the bartender ruined the night. I won't describe what she looks like or say what her name was, but I hope she reads this and realizes that I had zero intentions of insulting her by talking about the bar's pricing to friends. I came here on a Saturday night on a friend's desire to try their wings! They had both indoor and outdoor seating available and we opted for outdoor since the music inside is pretty loud. This is the spot for people come here in big groups to eat wings and drink beer. You order via the QR code on the table and you're able to add more throughout your night. It's also handy since you can pay on your own bill or with your whole table. The wings came in different spice levels but were all buffalo flavor. They also had a dry rub as well. I never expected to write a negative review of Ye Rustic Inn. They've long had my favorite hot wings in Los Angeles, and I've always enjoyed coming here. Unfortunately, after tonight's experience, I won't be returning--and it's entirely due to the behavior of a staff member. I've been sober and in recovery for over four years. I occasionally order non-alcoholic beer, but only if it's truly 0.0%, as I'm sensitive to even the minimal alcohol content found in many traditional NA beers. When I asked our waitress if they carried any 0.0% options, she seemed slightly annoyed but said she would check. She approached a taller man behind the bar--presumably a manager or the owner--and I overheard her ask if any of their NA beers were 0.0%. He responded loudly with something along the lines of, "Tell them to look it up on their phone if they need to know," continuing to rant as if the question was unreasonable. As someone who has worked in bar service myself, I know this information is clearly printed on the bottle and is a simple, valid request--especially for anyone in recovery or sensitive to alcohol content. After hearing his response, I told the waitress we would be leaving. The disrespect and dismissiveness were unacceptable. My friends were shocked and upset on my behalf, and frankly, so was I. I truly hope no one else is treated this way in the future. This experience was extremely off-putting, and despite years of enjoying this bar--and working in and frequenting dive bars myself--I will not be back. read more

Been coming here for years, the wings are great. Service has always been terrible but last time I came here I couldn't believe my eyes. A group of bros came inside and brought a giant fluffy dog- A HUGE DOG- imagine a Pomeranian the size of a polar bear. The dog was so big that even lying down under the table he stuck out halfway and I saw someone trip over him. I love dogs, LOVE THEM. But not if I'm inside at a restaurant, eating saucy wings and I can literally see pieces of your dog's coarse white fur floating in the air onto our table and plates...it was honestly disgusting. And also disturbing that the staff just allowed these guys in. There were also plenty of open tables outside!! I mean there were folks who got there after me and somehow got their wing and other food orders well before mine even came out. So I asked the dude bartender to check and, he blows me off. After some back and forth, he finally checks and realized his kitchen crew hadn't even started my order. At this point it's been about 50 min. He finally comes out with the wings a few minutes later showing the time stamped ticket. Here's the kicker, he's trying to make it seem like it's my fault or my problem that the food hasn't come out yet and I'm simply being impatient. Buddy, i waited nearly an hour for WINGS - your lack of communication is no excuse for providing shitty service. On top of it, I heard you talking shit on my way out - what are you thinking? Seriously you think showing me a timestamped ticket makes up for how late the food was? Or you think it makes up for your lack of communication. Or was it that you didn't like that I called you on it and you were in the wrong? Please, I'd like to know What could improve? 1. checking on orders when folks ask - although I did mention this directly to you. If it's too busy, ask for a couple minutes. 2. 2 min debrief with your bartenders. This way you know what's on task and avoid making excuses for yourself. 3. Try not to blow people off and then make it seem like you've been doing your job all along when you fuck up. 4. Take some responsibility. I usually like this spot, so, this is kinda lame. I came in for a drink and wings. It was busy (nbd), so I found a seat at the bar and waited my turn with the bartenders. The woman mixing drinks told me "I'll be right with you." No problem. The guy bartender was cleaning dishes and such, so I was just waiting to get some water and see a menu... for like 10ish minutes. Again, it's busy, nbd. Then, some other guy walks up right next to me, orders a drink, and they make it right away and hand it to him. No wait at all. So, apparently I needed to speak up. I said "Hey, I've been sitting here waiting for over 10 minutes, and this guy just walks up and gets his drink. Can I put in an order?" The guy bartender (I think his name is Nate) says "Oh, I tried making eye contact with you, but you kept looking away." He never said a word to me... no "Hey, what can I get you..." nothing. Waited for eye contact while I was actively sitting at the bar. Never experienced that at a dive bar. Also, the woman bartender never came back to me after she was done. She made the random guy's drink. This is just bad service. The guy said "Yeah, I tried a couple times to make eye contact with you. What can I get you?" So, I asked for some water and a menu... I didn't want a drink anymore. I've never been to a bar that required me to be sitting and waiting and not be acknowledged unless I randomly make eye contact with the bartender.
