Of course, I did not call Steve's Plumbing back. I gave 535 Plumbing a call and they were fantastic. Not only did they come out quickly to my home but they were very reasonably priced. I understand Steve's Plumbing works on commission so they charge a lot. 535 Plumbing charges a flat rate which is fair to the customer. My wife and I are retired so keeping expenses under control is important to us. 535 Plumbing sent two people to my home. Both were very nice and were very thorough to insure the install was done correctly and nothing was leaking. Thanks 535 Plumbing. I will be using again for any future plumbing needs I may have.

It ended with an extremely efficient Lyle replacing the faucet quicker than I could reconnect to the internet (seriously, that really happened). He also graciously took the time to explain and educate me on why the toilet is fine with just a few minor adjustments and how my electric bill could be unintentionally impacted with raising the temperature on the water heater. Lyle could have simply replaced the valve and flapper in my toilet and easily adjusted the thermostat in my water heater as I requested, but he didn't. They came back with a proposal of $35,000. After reviewing the itemized estimate, I immediately advised her to get additional quotes. One line item alone was $1,660 to install four hose bibbs (spigots)--something she never requested. There was no discussion about adding new hose bibbs or performing related work throughout the house that would justify this charge. For context, hose bibbs are inexpensive parts (around $5-$10 each at The Home Depot or similar retailers) and typically require minimal labor. We obtained two additional quotes from other plumbers: $4,500 and $3,900 for the same repair. Based on this experience, the pricing from Steve's was extremely inflated and concerning--especially given that the customer was an elderly homeowner. If you consider getting a quote from Steve's, I strongly recommend getting multiple estimates before proceeding.

I couldn't even figure out how to stop the water from coming out and within minutes water was pouring down the stairs and leaking into the floors below the kitchen. After calling everyone I could think of, including the board of water supply, with no one providing any help, I typed in "plumbers" into Yelp and started cold calling down the list. First Class Plumbing was the third company listed but the first one that seemed to care. I was warned that I was calling after hours so I'd have an emergency fee if I wanted service now... I joked "fine - this is an emergency" and was told I'd get a call back as soon as they could get ahold of one of their plumbers. I went back to trying to heave buckets of water into a nearby sink and received a call back 15 minutes later. The plumber was so calm, and after hearing that I was still dealing with gushing water, explained to me how to stop the water flow. He asked me to send him pictures of the burst pipe and the faucet and got off the phone to price everything out including replacing the pipes and faucet. After doing all that work he told me what the cost would be and then said it was no worries if given the price I didn't want to continue on - or at least wait until it wasn't an emergency (an extra $150 charge). I said I definitely wanted the service and he came right out and fixed the burst pipe. I would already have been raving about this place for their competent service if it had been a normal scheduled appointment. But the fact that this company and the plumber were there for me when no one else was, and went above and beyond walk me through how to stop the problems and extremely quickly look into part costs for me before I ever even agreed to the service has made me a loyal customer forever!
