We ordered the chicken maque choux, drunken chicken, & the gumbo! I didn't get pictures of anything but the maque choux because it was all gone so fast! Everything was delicious, the bread is unexpectedly addicting. I'm so excited to find this place considering I LOVED Yats back in Kentucky (years ago, in South Hill Station) before it became Gumbo Ya Ya. Yats is a regional chain that's kind of an odd duck for Muncie: a restaurant that celebrates Cajun spice and heat in a state not known for its love affairs with the hot stuff. The overall concept is fast casual and fun, and for a Village badly in need of new and delicious dining options, I'm glad to say they've nailed it here. Happily for an Indiana restaurant, the kitchen at Yats doesn't hold back when it reaches for the spice rack. We've visited twice and tried several menu options, including a couple etouffees and the house jambalaya. You can get a full plate of one menu item or split it half and half for slightly more. Everything comes with rice and a helping of bread. My go-to is already the Chipotle Alexia, a rich blend of chicken, chipotle pepper, and garlic that comes together as an intoxicatingly creamy, smoky, spicy, and mildly sweet ladleful that just hits the spot. My husband has tried a larger cross-section of the menu and every bite I've stolen from his orders has been similarly delicious. My only suggestion is for spice levels on the menu. The jambalaya we ordered during our second visit had quite a bit of Tabasco in it and even though I was happy to finish it, the heat proved too much for my dining partner. You can get free samples of pretty much anything off the menu before ordering, though. Prices are generally under $10 per person and that feels like a darn good value for what you get here. If you'd like to make your meal a little more wild, there's a cooler of macrobrews behind the counter. We'll be keeping Yats in our regular rotation! read more

Totally unfortunate. I have been to Yats several times at differing locations. I am a huge fan. To say I was excited that Yats was coming to Muncie would be an understatement. I have been to this particular site on three occasions since its opening. Visit one was the first week it was open. A line was out the front door. It took a bit to order, but the food was right on par with the other Yats. The store didn't have any bread as apparently it didn't get delivered yet. Disappointing but not horrific for the first week. Visit number two was better. Food still great. Bread served. No issues other than slow to order. Half a dozen people in front of me in line and it took almost 15 minutes to order. Again...relatively new trying to give the benefit of the doubt. Visit number three was terrible. 11:30 or so on a Wednesday. There was literally no one to take orders. There were 8 or so people in front of us waiting in line. No one was at the counter. Maybe someone was in the back doing something or any number of reasonable excuses...but no. What looked to be a delivery guy came in and out a few times. A cook in the back came out and packed up a few styrofoam orders. Then went back with not so much as a look or a greeting to the crowd of 12ish people now waiting. The group waited for almost 10 minutes and no one showed. We left. Truly pathetic. Businesses have enough difficulty staying open in the Village...unfortunately for this particular Yats I'm guessing you will be in the long line of failures. Two stars just because I love Yats in general...but zero stars are what this Yats has I have gone back to this Yats on three occasions since this initial review. Each time has been much better. If you like Cajun and creole food, this is the place to come hang out in Muncie. I know there are other Yats around but for the Muncie area, this is the place. The five star establishment gets four stars because the parking seems to be a little bit contrary. Once we were inside though they shared the areas where we could park. Again, I look at places like this with a "celiac disease" mind in place. as a person who is in need of gluten-free foods and menus, Yats does have a variety that I can eat and enjoy. I was a bit disappointed to find out that their jambalaya was not being served on the day I was there. But, no worries! That just means I have to come back again! The atmosphere during the day was pretty quiet and very enjoyable for the group I was with. They do serve Pepsi products for the soda drinks so, if you are a Coke fan you will have to make some other choices here. I've been wanting to try this place for a long time because I love Cajun food. When one opened in Muncie I was really excited. It did not disappoint! I got the Chipotle Alexia and my husband got the gumbo. Both were delicious but mine was my favorite for sure. His was not spicy at all but mine had a pleasant spiciness to it. Each order came with a. Hunk of really good bread with some type of spicy spread. Very reasonably priced for the amount of food. Will definitely be heading there again. read more

I recently discovered Yats this weekend and I have gone 4 times in 5 nights. The menu is delicious and I love this as a post bar meal. You can eat for $8 so it's competitive with other spots in the village. Used to love this place but it's going downhill very quick... First off, they changed from a styrofoam box (huge serving) to a plastic bowl that is visually smaller. I asked about the serving size and one of the workers said it is the same serving size, when in fact it is not. Secondly, they had an "OUT" sign on the chipotle alexia (which happens to be my favorite). After ordering drunken chicken, the employee tells a customer that they're not actually out of chipotle alexia. Lastly, as I was eating i felt something hard as I was chewing. Ended up pulling a part of a toothpick out of my mouth, which I'm assuming that the toothpick was in the mouth of some worker and it dropped in the chicken. Never gonna eat here again, what a shame. read more

Yats is a local gem! If you want Cajun food that's full flavor and affordable then this is the place to go! It's tucked away a bit in the food court of the mall by five guys burgers but it's easy to access from the back parking lot. Worth checking out ! Also ask about the peanut butter pie! read more

Very disappointed in my Yatz experience here recently. It was 9 PM. I already placed my order of chicken moux choque (or however it's spelled) with the cashier/individual working. My friend and I sat down. Half the beverages at the soda machine were out of order. The cashier proceeded to come to our table ten minutes later to tell me they're out of the moux choque. I told him I needed a minute to look at the menu. He disappeared for 10 minutes or so. I finally said I would have the white chicken chili. 3 other customers have walked in and received their food at this point while friend and I are wondering what the holdup is. My food was incredibly bland. My friend agreed. I'm not a hard person to please, but this ordeal was very upsetting. read more

I stopped by here for dinner one evening. The atmosphere is laid-back which I enjoyed. The guy taking our order ran through the menu with us since it was our first time. They have a menu with a number items that are always available, along with a few that come and go. I ordered the chicken moque choux. They pile it onto white rice and serve it along with bread. The portions are great and super filling. This particular dish was sweeter compared to the other items on the menu, but it still had a slight kick to it but it wasn't over-powering. I loved the bread as well. The guy working told us it was famous and people come in to order the bread alone. I understand why. I will definitely be back! read more

Great prices and such good quality! Food comes out very fast and has at least 7 different hot sauce options (big fan) and the desserts are yummy. Four stars because I despise styrofoam's impact on the earth and this establishment seems to think this is the only option available.. Still, a nice option to have so close to the school campus. Another great franchise opening with Yats coming to Muncie and in a great location. It was very clean inside the business with fast service and welcoming employees the food I had the "chili cheese etoufeé" was a tad bit watery from it usually taste like but the bread was hands down some of the best. Overall for a first day opening I give 4 out of 5 stars and will be back. I hope they just thicken up the chili cheese recipe. read more
