For a while we bounced around from restaurant to restaurant for Japanese food, until I finally realized that Yasuda's sushi was indeed the best in town. Staff is friendly, service is prompt, and there are plenty of options for my non-sushi eating spouse. Pro tip: unless it's been revised, call in for take-out. The online system seems to not be performing as it should. Always nicer to stop in anyway, whenever you can. I spent a couple of months in Kingston for a business trip. I dined at the restaurant several times and always had a fantastic experience. The owners are very friendly and create a very welcoming atmosphere. The sushi is fresh with top quality ingredients. The sushi chef appeared very passionate and offered several great specials on and off the menu. Don't miss the Broadway Special or the Fish Volcano (was not on the menu). I have come to this restaurant after visiting the Catskills Mountain Railroad and have to say that the food was really good. I have had fried calamari in many places in the city and I really have to say that it was one of the best calamaris I had. I also liked the Japanese fried rice. My family and I have been going to Yasuda for many years. The food is delicious, fresh, and never disappoints.

We love Yasuda. As a shellfish allergic person, it's generally very risky however they always know what to avoid without my reminding about the usual suspects, and I've had very good luck despite my extreme sensitivity with only the occasional swelling (it only takes a molecule and is bound to happen and I accept it is unavoidable even with best practice). The deliciousness of the sushi is worth it (I'm not anaphylactic, just swollen face, belly and migraine for 3-4 days) along with the wonderful hospitality. It beats another popular sushi joint in town hands down in that regard, and less expensive, too. When I get the urge for Yasuda it just doesn't go away until I go there or order. I was greeted by an extremely friendly waitress who took my order. The staff here were so friendly, the service was amazing! And the amount of food they give you is jaw dropping. I ordered the salmon teriyaki dinner box for $18 and believe it or not, there was enough food to satisfy my ravenous appetite. Salmon, rice, shumai, dense California rolls with avocado, and th y gave me a whole tray of tempura! 2 shrimp and 4 potato tempura! The ungodly amount of food was presented very well. I have never said this before....in all my reviews, I have never said that 5 stars did not suffice. What do I look for? Great food, well presented, courteous and passionate staff, and lastly, cleanliness. Yasuda hit and surpassed each category with flying colors. Let me start with the food. Sit at the bar: get to know the sushi chef Aaron. My husband was stationed here for two months TWO years ago during the Verizon strike. He ate here with his colleagues to least 2 dozen times and in the time since, he has raved about this place. Fast forward to tonight. We walk in and I joke, if they don't greet you like Norm, we're leaving! And so in we go! And yes, two years later, the sushi chef has remembered my husband and is so pleased to see him. With all of this, the bar was set high....best sushi, special rolls made especially for him, etc. so we ordered and also asked for Aaron to give us a surprise roll as well. You will see the pics below, but honestly some of the most creative and TASTY rolls I have ever eaten, anywhere. Presentation? Pretty and thoughtful and nothing was rushed. Staff? Ok, so it's clear that my husband loved coming to eat here and get a little special treatment from Aaron during his long time out of town. But, so polite, thanking me every time he handed over a roll. Truly passionate about making each and every roll. The wait staff were also friendly and attentive and made us feel at home. Lastly, I always check the bathroom...it was clean and clean smelling as well. This spot is 1 hour from where our daughter just started college in Troy. This is the best sushi place I've been to outside of Japan. It doesn't look like it, until you get your food. Today I tried the hibachi for the first time and it was amazing too. And I don't usually like hibachi because it tends to be bland, but not here. The service is friendly and quick. There's a parking lot in the back, which is very convenient. My GF and I went to Yasuda last night to take advantage of a Groupon special. We walked in and were the only customers. An ominous start but at least we had their full attention. We were greeted and seated immediately. After ordering sake, the waitress told us the evening special, then brought over a complementary appetizer. Don't know what it was, but it was delicious. I ordered the sashimi deluxe. My GF ordered a dish that included three different seafood rolls. All the food tasted fresh. We go out for sushi/sashimi often. My GF said that the rolls were the best of all the places we have been. That's quite a compliment. The portions were very good. Service was attentive and fast, just right, not overbearing. All in all, the dinner went perfectly. No complaints. I don't think that Yasuda is in the best of locations. It's easy to miss if you're not really looking for it. It is a hidden gem, though.
