The chicken is pan-fried to order and stayed piping hot longer than one would expect. The batter is light, flavorful, and crispy, and the meat is juicy and flavorful as well. The cornbread is yummy on its own. The vegetable of the day was pickled okra, which was deliciously refreshing. The plantains were smashed into pretty flower shapes and super garlicky, which I enjoyed. The Doubles were tasty too, with a bit of a spicy kick. If I could gave this place a million stars, I would! I had the chicken and waffles with sorrel, and my bestie got the market salad with corn bread and a rum & coke. I'm not a drinker, but she said it was the best rum and coke she's ever had! My chicken was cooked perfectly- crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside (like, grab extra napkins juicy). It was also a treat to get a buckwheat waffle. I hadn't had one in forever and it was nostalgic and delicious. The bartender was nice and super knowledgable and recommended the sorrel for me- such a treat! It was sweet and full of spices. Of course I had to try bites off of my friend's plate too, so I got to try the crisp and flavorful salad and delicious cornbread. Cornbread can really go either way for me, but I was a big fan of this. It was an all around great experience! I loved the atmosphere and the set up. We had a fantastic dining experience here last night (on a brisk & busy Friday night)! We made reservations ahead, and were seated immediately when we arrived. The hostess/server was smiling, friendly, and welcoming to our group of 5. We had some older technology-challenged members in our party, so the hostess brought us a physical menu, and even assisted with QR code scanning for a couple of our folks. When it came time to order, the server entered our order directly. Again, technology issues in our group. THE FOOD!! I had the lamb curry; so flavorful, with just the perfect amount of lovely spicy heat & brothy sauce/meat/rice ratios. Others in our party enjoyed the fried chicken with & without the waffles, mac & cheese, cornbread, Puerto Rican beans & rice, and a fabulous Piña Colada. Lots of 'mmmmmm's' during our meals. Ordered via delivery service. Got the whole order - always a plus - and everything was packaged well so no nasty spillage surprises when it arrived. I had the roast pork sandwich which was excellent and indescribably tender! Husband had the fried chicken (one of the few places you can get actual body-part pieces of chicken in Eugene - excluding KFC and its ilk???) which was super flavorful and expertly fried through the first couple of pieces. Unfortunately it then became rather greasy - continued to be flavorful for sure, but required patting down to soak up the oil. My fiance and I celebrated our anniversary at Yardy and it wasn't all it had been hyped up to be. With it being so small and the way it's set up, I was a bit disappointed that there was not table service, but rather you order with a QR code. It was incredibly busy, which is great! But they need more staff. The food was incredible! I really enjoyed the everything we ate. However, our appetizer came out cold and it took awhile to get any staff's attention so that we could get one that wasn't cold. We had the pork shoulder and it was melt in your mouth tender. Definitely really great! We knew from ordering our first round of drinks that it would be awhile if we ordered another. Our first round took about 30 minutes and our food came out before them, even though we ordered the drinks with the host before even sitting at the table. The bartender was super busy and I totally understand, again they need more staff. We ordered a rum flight to share between our appetizer and our main dish arriving. After 25 minutes, we had finished our dish and still did not have the rum flight. We asked the host and she was able to check in with the bartender, and he quickly made it. Overall, I would come back but it wouldn't be up on my list of places to go again. The food and atmosphere were fantastic, minus the few hiccups, but the lack of service is what will keep me away for awhile. I hope they hire more staff and move away from the QR codes. read more

A wonderful spot for West Indian food at one of our favorite breweries. We stopped in this weekend after a long hike and were looking for something hearty to go with our cold beers. We've gotten their fried chicken once previously and it was so hot we had to wait quite a while for it to cool down enough to eat. It wasn't quite as fresh this time, but still quite tasty. The chicken is skillet fried with a flavorful crispy exterior. I love the hot sauce it comes with, a wonderful flavor but you only need a small dab! It came with a side of cornbread and some sort of gravy like sauce that we were maybe meant to dip the chicken in (?). I think our meal had previously come with a vegetable side, but did not this time. We also tried the doubles this time, which were a new food for us. Two small soft doughy flatbreads with chickpeas and chutney on top. They were flavorful and I really liked the soft texture. Had dinner at this very cosy newer restaurant last night for the first time. It was terrific. Started with sharing beet salad with hazelnuts which was beautifully presented and delicious. We then had fried chicken with waffles and shrimp with grits as our main courses. Fried chicken was just the best in taste and texture and shrimp and grits were perfect. If I voiced any complaint, it would be that the service was too good. Everyone there were very friendly and helpful. We also started with 2 very reasonably priced cocktails. I am gluten free and had the plantain on my chicken sandwich instead of the bun, my boyfriend agrees even though he's not gluten free he rather eat the plantain because it's such great combination! He ordered the oxtail special. Delicious! We cleaned our plates! If I could give 4.5 stars on here I would. The only thing, which I see so many other people agree with is the way you order is a bit frustrating. We ordered our food at the counter but then wanted to order something else/more drinks and the girl at the counter was running around trying to do everything else or people were constantly coming in that ordering at the counter wasn't an option. This is a bonified foodie spot hidden gem. 5s across the board. I had the fried chicken and wow. The meat was favorable and juicy to the bone. My son had the jerk chicken and wow again. He gave me a a taste that made me want to dap up the cook. And let me not forget the red beans and rice. If my mom's was there my face would have got me in trouble. A simple menu with outstanding, fresh food and sublime libations. Food is served family style, so be prepared to share! The plataños maduros (fried plantains) came out caramelized with a savory garlic topping, which balanced the sweetness of the plantains. The tamarind barbecue fried chicken was crisp on the outside, juicy on the inside, and covered with a sticky, tangy sauce that helped mellow out the spicy kick of the curry chana (chickpeas) that I ordered as a side. I also had a side of pink beans, and they were flavorful, almost creamy, and extremely comforting. My Cuba Libre cocktail was light, refreshing, and not too sweet--I would have enjoyed another one. Delicious food! Fun atmosphere. However, I'm not a fan of the QR code ordering because I enjoy the discussion of the menu with the people who work at the restaurant. Finding out the little things about the food or drinks or what the favorite thing the chef is doing. I don't know, I feel like I'm not making sense... I miss that human interaction. However, we will be back and frequently, I just hope that they consider changing how we order food. We had the fried chicken and waffles, lamb curry (however the food handler called it goat curry which made us wonder if it was our order for a minute but we consulted the menu and it was ours, there was no goat offered that night), macaroni and cheese, corn bread. I was really looking forward to trying a new restaurant. One orders off a QR code or at the front cashier's desk. We chose the latter. We ordered the fish special and the vegan jerk. Both were quite spicy; I would rate the spice heat 4 on a scale of 5. The fish special came with a scoop of rice; tasty, but a bit too spicy ($25). The vegan jerk was $15 and came with a big scoop of rice, a tasty plantain, a few small pieces of potato, some beans, a few sauteed green (meager), and a tablespoon of slaw - pretty skimpy for the price. We added the rice to the fish dish which made it more tolerable. Service was quick and served family style. The music was loud, both outside and upstairs (they said they couldn't turn it down) and rap - yuck. I ordered a beer and they said the only option was an IPA; it was in a can, not draft; disappointing. We will not be returning any time soon. read more

Apparently I've passed through Eugene once 12 years ago and do not remember, but it was with my parents, that being said I have just arrived there with my wife this afternoon and we tried this place for lunch at the food card area. Seen that they served crunchy fried chicken and other interesting items on the menu we decided to choose the fried chicken, corn bread, potato salad and some cold brews from across the way. The fried chicken tasted deliciously flavorful and the salt wasn't too much either and I loved every bit of it down to the bone. The potato salad was definitely made fresh as it's not those small cubes of potatoes but around potato cut into 4 to 5 pieces with some delicious sauce and cream and veg. I don't know if you guys have ever been to a n authentic West Indies restaurant or Jamaican restaurant but this definitely was not it. Jerk chicken wasn't even jerked in the smoker. My background in Jamaican American, parents are West Indies and Jamaican. We ordered a good sampling: fried chicken w/hot sauce, jerked chicken, rice & beans, some sort of split pea dumpling thingy in tamarind sauce, and two rum drinks. So many and varied flavors, all wonderful together and apart. The fried chicken came with some pickled veggies that perfectly complemented the dish, and the jerked chicken came with some nicely spiced jo-jos. Both drinks were amazing. The dark & stormy was big and bold. The daiquiri was delicate and delicious -- not the thick, cloying kind some think of when ordering a daiquiri. Service was friendly and prompt, and the atmosphere was cozy. Oh, and prices were reasonable. Total for all of the above plus tip came to about $70, with plenty of leftovers for lunch. Amazing fried chicken that is crispy and juicy, it even stayed crispy on the 15 minute drive home. I loved the flavor of the coating too. The doubles were delicious, and I didn't expect to like them much, but the chickpeas and chutney were seasoned well and just had a great flavor and texture with the flatbread. The Carib donuts were good, as was the little biscuit that came with the chicken meal, and the tomato soup. The soup was different than other tomato soups I've had, but it was tasty. My favorite thing I tried though? The pikliz! It was spicy and crunchy. I was debating between the plantains and pikliz, but they had run out of plantains. They told me the pikliz was usually eaten with fried food, and I can see why. It was perfect with the fried chicken, but really I would eat it on everything.
