We weren't sure we would make it as we were only in town for the evening and we had just come from 18 hour international travel--extremely jet lagged and feeling delirious. I had no appetite but am very glad we pushed ourselves to go because it was such a treat! Rice table is an Indonesian multi course sampler meal. I'm glad I chose to dine at Aneka Rasa. The inside of the restaurant was romantic with candlelit dining and elaborate decor. €30 per person can seem expensive but we were pleasantly surprised that it's truly €30 total. No tax or tip. Our tap water was also free. When we entered, the owner, Jerry informed us they're only doing rice table (no a la carte dining) and asked us if we want the regular or vegetarian meal. We chose regular. Jerry learned our names and addressed us by them for the rest of the evening. The regular rijsttafel came with chicken sate, soy chicken, beef rendang, curry chicken, veggies, spicy eggs, cucumber salad, fried & white rice, chips. That chicken sate was the best we've ever had! The peanut sauce on it is bomb!!! We've never seen so much peanut sauce on chicken sate-- the chicken skewers were bathing in sauce. The chicken was tender & juicy. I ate up all the leftover sauce with rice. The eggs have a spicy kick so be careful if you have low tolerance. Everything else tasted fresh. We appreciated the variety and being able to savor multiple different things. It was plenty of food for the both of us (and we eat a lot!). We talked to Jerry a bit and he was incredibly kind and welcoming. I appreciated the Christian music played in the background and messages around the restaurant. Highly recommend this restaurant for friendly service, yummy food, and good ambience!

The restaurant offers a varied menu inspired by classic Indonesian dishes and promotes a relaxed welcoming atmosphere with the option to request specific dishes in advance including lobster or seafood with prior notice. We were seated without a reservation which was convenient and appreciated. The service was a bit grumpy and not the warmest but still attentive and functional throughout the meal. While the hospitality did not fully match the restaurant's stated philosophy it did not ruin the experience. The food itself was good and satisfying with rich flavors that felt true to Indonesian home style cooking. The rice table in particular looked absolutely delicious and tempting though our group ended up ordering more selectively due to picky eaters at the table. It is definitely something I would want to try on a future visit. Overall SAMPURNA delivers solid Indonesian food and a genuine traditional approach. Despite imperfect service I would return especially to try the rice table next time.

We ordered the Kuning Rice Table, the smallest of the three tasting-menu-style options. Despite being the smallest it came with an unbelievable amount of food! I loved getting to try so many different indonesian dishes, everyone loved something different! The service was very fast, and the food was brought out on hot plates to keep everything warm. They are also very accommodating for vegetarian/vegans - they were able to swap out the meat dishes for the vegetarian in our group while still doing the full-table tasting menu.

In fact, there's a second-floor dining area that you probably wouldn't notice unless they sit you there. Ordered the following: - Chicken Satay - 10/10: best satay I've ever had. Hands down. The sauce is impeccable. Super savory. No need to dip it in anything. Chicken is moist and tender. Categorized as a side dish, but this really is a main event. Every table was ordering it. - Beef Rendang - 6.8/10: nice flavor. Medium spice. Beef is tender, but I wish they used fattier cuts of meat. Would elevate this dish definitely. - Prawns - 7/10: had some nice heat. Prawns were tender and full of flavor, but kind of small. Dishes came with a variety of small add-ons that's a bit hard to describe. I guess if I had to I'd say it was the equivalent of Korean banchan - an assortment of side dishes like potato strings and veggies. Loved them all. Service was excellent and friendly. Prices are a bit steep, but fair with what you're getting. Definitely recommend!

I've walked by this place 1000's of times since it's at the end of the block of my Amsterdam apartment. Since the pandemic, it has been closed to indoor dining more than it has been open. I regret not popping in there for dinner when I had the chance. It's a vast space for Amsterdam. The front door is blocked with a table, candles and menus. Technically masks are not required outside, so if you're inclined to go maskless, this is more convenient. It's a very busy sidewalk during the day, but at night, not so bad. My friends were very satisfied with it too. They are smaller portions (by the sight) but they fill you up in a hurry! It was superlekker. I definitely look forward to exploring their menu options here. I can't believe I didn't try them sooner!

We were able to indicate our preferences: satay and randang sauces for us! For the starter, we had shrimp egg rolls and pork satay skewers. Great satay and LOTS of it! As the main courses got there, we realized the HIGH quality of the restaurant: we were able to discover 12 different types of dishes (meats with sauces + vegetarian dishes). All very different and DELICIOUS. Our favorite were the chicken and the beef randang. Rice cooked in coconut cream is served on the side as well as prawn crackers. The servers - from the same family - know their stuff. They are very attentive and even funny. Everything is HOMEMADE, YES, the prawn crackers too! For dessert, we asked for the typical traditional Indonesian cake: spekkoek. Not gonna insist again that it was homemade but you could taste the freshness! Two different pieces are served with a coffee or tea, as you prefer and whipped cream. At the end of the meal, the servers invited us to visit their backyard! 45 minutes by foot to reach this restaurant outside of the center, but well worth-it! Congratulations to the chef and the whole sweet team!

The food is excellent, they have English menus for us tourists, they're affordable, and they have a nice beer list and plenty of tables -- making them maybe unique among Surinamese places. It is helpful to make a reservation, but if you didn't ... they have a lot of tables, and many turn over fast, so get in line and wait, you'll get a table eventually. They have a really good selection of vegetarian dishes, so much that you won't feel restricted at all. Spice levels are moderate, so if you're a pepper-head, order some sambal on the side. Do order some of the side dishes; I'm especially fond of the bara and the teloh with salt cod and peanut sauce. Warning, though: Surinamese food uses nuts heavily, so do not go here if you have a nut allergy.

The staff were friendly and courteous, and I would gladly come back next time I'm in Amsterdam. Walked in on a Saturday evening around 7pm as a solo diner and the restaurant was packed. I didn't make reservations so was hoping they could squeeze me in and it was a yes, just had to wait for about 8-10 minutes until the bar area seating cleared up a bit. Score! Seated the menu was presented right away, after about 10 minutes staff asked for my order, I got: - Spang Makandra Special €17.50: this is a plate of several of the house specialities. Fried rice & noodles, braised chicken, grilled chicken satay, stir-fried long beans, egg, potato sambal and perkedel (fried potatoes). So tasty all around! Loooved the braised chicken was done very well, the peanut sauce used for the chicken satay was a bit on the sweeter side. The egg was scrambled (believe this was intentional for this preparation), the flavors were delicious! I can't comment to the authenticity since I'm no expert in Surinamese food though would certainly recommend this dish to all. - Dawet €3.00: if you're familiar with SE Asian shaved ice with palm sugar syrup, the flavor of this drink is reminiscent. While the color is a bright pepto bismol pink, it's mostly coconut milk with a strong flavor of gula malaka. Was on the sweeter side though glad for the coconut milk to balance out the spiciness of the hot sauce. - Beef rendang sandwich €6.50: sooo yummy. Considering the Indonesian and Chinese influences in Surinamese food, I've eaten my share of specifically Malaysian and Indonesian food in those countries and the curry flavors in the sandwich were prominent and super tasty. The spices were quite strong that even wrapped in foil and inside a plastic bag, my entire bag smelled like rendang (in a most moth-watering way lol) after carrying for some hours. The decor was cozy and filled the left side wall with pics of patrons of the past, opposite wall full length mirrors to make the space look larger. Seating enough for about 50-60 probably. Even though they were slammed, staff checked in periodically on how I was doing, refilled water, which indirectly led to an interesting conversation with another solo diner sitting at the bar. Strong recommend!

We were able to get a same-day reservation and were excited to try the food here. We were told before we were seated that we had 90 minutes for our dinner, which wasn't an issue for us as that's more of a norm in the US, but I could see that feeling too rushed for the usual dinner in Europe. Every table was filled and were seated all pretty close to eachother, which added to the level of noise and feeling of a super busy evening. We ordered the tasting menu and the first course was an AMAZING start- probably the best Indonesian dish I've had outside of Indonesia. The main course is where we had more issues - for having 9 different small plates to try, the amount of rice for 4 people was definitely not enough. Some of my friends in the group were also more sensitive to spice, so it would've been nice if there was more consideration to ordering the dishes by spice level or at a minimum letting us know which plates were more spicy. And while there were many to try, most of these dishes were just okay, nothing really stood out. The dessert course was a much larger plate/portion than any of us were expecting, which was a pleasant surprise but the flavors were also just okay to me.
