So, during our Dutch adventure one of our friends recommended Ruby's. He had dinner at this restaurant in his previous trip and he spoke very highly of it.
Wow! This turned out to be a great choice! We were a party of 12 with all kinds of different tastes and restrictions and lo and behold, they had something for everyone. We decided to order straight tapas style and share family style. The vegetarian curry samosas were perfectly crispy but the filling was a tad bland for my taste. I think that the addition of a bold chutney would have given them the boost that they needed. The Siu Mai and Ha Kau dumplings were on point -- steamed to perfection and the pork and shrimp were tender and flavorful. The Prawns with cashew nuts (Yaoguo Xia) were the highlight of the evening for me. This dish had a nice sea salt and black pepper crust on the prawn exterior, served with julienne cucumbers, carrots, and onion in a nice fish sauce. For the sweet finale, I had the pisang goreng - fried banana -- and it pulled the full experience full circle. What a great way to cap off the night! It was almost as good as grandma's platanos en Gloria!
I have to give honors to the owner and his family. He took the time to listen to everybody's preferences and made very good suggestions of both on and off menu items that would be good choices. Their service was impeccable making this an even better experience. read more
