They give enough food (MOSTLY RICE) for a person to eat 2-3 meals from. But will charge you an extra $6 if you want to share it. The pink sauce is good. Makes the rice enjoyable. The "miso" soup tastes like plastic. Bleh. Won't be returning. There was a spice container the chef poured on the rice. I was going to ask him for more on my rice. It was a red container. (Fooled me!) I said, "what's in there?" And before he could answer (though I had clearly directed my question to the chef), the server butt in and said, "it's just salt and pepper." This is definitely more targeted as a touristy vacation thing tbh. There is a push in getting the food to diners quickly and get them out the door so more can be seated. For a Tuesday, it was still very crowded. We were seated with another couple we were dining iut with and then with others that made it a full table of ten. The chef came out and cooked tableside, but having been to numerous other establishments like this, I can say chef was just going thru the motions with little showmanship, which is kinda what you are paying for. Food was just ok. We all commented that we missed the customary japanese noodles and that the rice while plentiful was a poor substitute. The vegetables were also a big disappointment tbh. Grated tiny shreds of carrot are hard to find. Our friend ordered sashimi, and it came with salad, and before anyone was done with salad chef was dishing out vegetables already. All in all something to do once, but once done, that's it for us. For the price way too expensive to pay out for a so so experience especially when you're rushed in and out. Not a place to linger to enjoy. You are expected to eat quickly and leave. In closing, a once and done experience for us at Broadway at the Beach location. read more

Yamato has always been a "must eat" location for our family. This years visit was not the experience we have grown to expect. The portions have decreased in size and the entertainment aspect of hibachi was absent. Next year we will look for a new place to dine. :-( read more

I really really liked this grill. I think the food was delicious and I would go again. The only thing I did not like about this grill is that they touch the plates and silverware but otherwise the cook was nice. The food was average compared to other Japanese steakhouses. The tables are packed in too tight. We had a special request due to an allergy. Not only did the chef neglect to avoid the food (even though it was noted on our order), the manager came out and ensured us we would have a new order from the kitchen. That order came out wrong too. Great dinner spot when you're in Myrtle Beach. It's in a nice location at the Broadway area with plenty of parking. I love Hibachi/Teppinyaki cooking. Yamato does a great job with food quality, taste and portions which make it worth the price. It's a good value and fun experience in this tourist town. Amazing food and plenty on your plate. The one issue I experience each time I've dined is the hostess staff. I'd highly recommend these individuals get some re-training on dealing with public, courtesy and general professionalism. I realize they're telling folks they have to "wait" but 100% of the time I have had reservations and they are still rude... wait staff also just not the friendliest in town. I went for my birthday and the service was wonderful! I had no issue making a reservation for 8 people and adjusting it to 7 the day of the event. The staff was friendly and the chef was wonderful! Our family visited Yamato's July 9, 2024 to celebrate our daughters 35th birthday. We had a large party so we were divided into 2 parties. The first 6 were seated at 4pm and our other party, 8 people, was seated at 4:15. Our 9 year autistic granddaughter was in the 2nd group. She was restless and loud while waiting, and the hostess' facial expressions were not welcoming. They were extremely unfriendly. We were sat at our table and the children were very excited to be a part of the entertainment! Our waitress was less than enthusiastic to serve us as she stated, "I just got here and I already want to go home." Due to our granddaughter's limited dietary preferences, there wasn't anything on the menu for her to eat. Generally, she will eat noodles and chicken at a Japanese restaurant, which she loudly exclaimed, "Daddy, ramen and chicken!" This restaurant does not offer noodles on the menu, so her mother purchased food elsewhere and brought it to the table. The manager quickly came over and stated the health department does not allow outside food to be brought in due to possibility of cross contamination. We have no problem abiding by these rules. However, the attitude of the manager and everyone that we encountered, was extremely unkind and unprofessional. My son, daughter in law and granddaughter was asked to leave. The manager's reason being my granddaughter could not eat the outside food. However, the table next to our other parties table had food brought in in a plastic container! The child ate it and no one asked them to leave! Families with special needs children should carefully consider their choice before choosing Yamatos for dinner. read more

I would like to post how disappointed my family was on a recent trip to this restaurant. On July 9th we came to celebrate my niece's birthday, which included close to 15 people. The party arrived just as the restaurant was opening, so the wait was not that long, but there was a few minutes in the waiting room. While waiting, my nephews daughter, who is Autistic, was a bit boisterous, but once seated she was quiet, very well behaved, excited to watch the chef's show. But you could already fill the "chill" in the air from the staff. The chef started preparing the orders, which was exciting and fun. Due to the fact that his daughter will only eat certain things, fries and chicken tenders were brought along for her. As soon as she started to eat, the waitress informed us that we would have to either put the food away or leave the restaurant. Which was answered with, "no she's going to eat this as she does not eat any food on the menu". The waitress was informed that the child has special needs and would only eat certain things. Again, "put it away or you'll have to leave" upon which she called over the manager. The manager stated "put the food away or leave the restaurant". My nephew tried to explain the situation, to which the manager had no heart and said that didn't matter, either put the food away or leave the restaurant! Mind you at another table a family had taken a sandwich out of a container that they had brought in with them and proceeded to feed their child with no hassle whatsoever! It's hard enough to have a child with special needs, but to be treated this way is absolutely incomprehensible. As stated this was a large party so not everyone was able to sit at one table, which left a few seats available for another party to be seated. But oh no, the waitress forcibly took the place settings up for other customers, as soon as our party was seated. So yes I whole heartedly believe this restaurant already had a "bad taste" in their mouth for us from the very beginning. So finally, would we recommend this restaurant to others, NOT A CHANCE!!!! read more

This is a must read y'all look at my review history there is none. I leave no bad reviews for no one but this needs to be known. This place is horrible. It literally made us sick on top everything else. I have a video that I'm gonna post on my page y'all check it out. She states to us if y'all need anything y'all let us know OK while straightening up the table and picking up things. Then turns to the waiters and whispers something so I said it seems like you're rushing us. She says well I am there's over a two hour wait. So I just let it go because my youngest daughter thats only 2 was still eating so I basically took her plate from her and I gather my seven children up and my wife and we leave the table. Just so you're aware the only reason why we sat there so long is because my 3 year old daughter peed all over her self and my wife had to go get,a change of clothes from the closest clothing store so we were waiting on her as well. So when I was walking out I wanted to talk with Bianca the manger and when I was talking with her I was using my hands because I am a hand talker. She said for one your going to stop moving your hands in my face and I was not putting my hands in her face I was simply talking with them. And she states I'm done and walks away while I'm trying to explain to her my kids were still eating and she states you been sitting there for more then a hour for one I waited just like everybody else to get my seat and two there was no time frame on the reservation. While shopping and visiting the aquarium my family decided to try this place out. It was on the weeknight but the wait was still around an hour (this is the way it is in touristy areas though) we were sat with two other families and the server was very nice and attentive. We never waited on drinks and once we were served the food started coming our way very quickly. Soup,salad and then the chef preparing the main course in front of us kept the dinner going. Stopped in here for a late lunch early dinner with the family. We each had the filet and shrimp. Unlike many other hibachi restaurants, the fried rice was included with your meal. (So was dessert). The fried rice tasted good. Only problem was they add what looks like canned peas and carrots. (Not used to that). Your average Japanese hibachi experience with the onion volcano and etc. The biggest issue I had with this place with the lack of seasoning in the fried rice. My cousin enjoyed it though. She stated that usually places put too much soy sauce and etc. for her and this felt more healthy. I guess I just love my sodium. ‍ Our server was very nice though I would give her five stars if I could just rate the service. She was on top of everything and made us feel very welcomed.
