    Classic chicken fried chicken

This was a great stop in Emory. We asked what they were famous for and they shared the chicken fried steak. Wife took an order of that and I had the chicken fried chicken. Atmosphere was quant and staff were very friendly. Unfortunately they didn't have mash potatoes which to me is a classic pairing. We went for curly seasoned curly fries - i know, totally random. Unfortunatley they missed the seasoning but who doesn't like a good curly fry. You get a trip to the salad bar with the entree orders. It was simple but still enjoyed the offer to get some greens in. There were some complaints that the salad plates are to small but I think its just right for a complementary version. Price was very reasonable and we would definitely come back to enjoy their breakfast offerings. Service was great. Although the chicken fried steak and chicken version were good, they weren't unforgettable.

Great Breakfast and reasonable prices! We only had breakfast here but I suspect most everything is good. Had the special, egg scramble with sausage side of home fries (cooked nicely) with the biscuits and gravy. We also ordered the oatmeal with a side of bacon (thick cut and cooked nicely) sorry no pic. Coffee was good, hot and steady. Everyone working was pleasant and attentive. This is a great home town dinner type vibe that the locals definitely frequent.

There's no better place for breakfast of lunch! Breakfast served all day, pretty much 90% of lunch can be ordered for breakfast!

Decent small town cafe. We all ate breakfast which was average. Coffee was continuously refilled, and service was excellent.

Awesome down-home country breakfast!! Coffee was good, bacon was crispy, eggs were perfect, and gravy was just right.

Here's what I ordered; chicken strips, baby carrots, steamed broccolis, and some home-cut French fries to replace the standard-issue salad it comes with on the menu. The order came with the ranch dressing for the broccolis and the gravy for the chicken tenders. So those are pluses for my order. Here's where it goes down south; The chicken tenders tasted okay, a bit dry and it was in the same fryer as the catfish with the cornmeal batter. I'd suggest using a different fryer for the chicken ONLY. The saving grace is the gravy which tasted quite good with a good note of black pepper on it! The baby carrots were a bit of a turnoff for me! It's pretty soft, almost to the point of being mushy, and tasted a bit spoiled! That is NOT what I want on my carrots! I wanted freshly cooked and buttery baby carrots, not this mushy junk... The broccolis were steamed okay. It wasn't fork-tender, but it wasn't crunchy at all. Personally, I'd prefer it freshly steamed until fork-tender. That is my kind of steamed broccolis! Another saving grace is the ranch dressing which tasted quite good and paired will with the broccolis! The main, and INFURIATING, part is when they forgot my home-cut French fries as a replacement for my salad!!! I was so upset that I didn't even want the fries when asked. I said to let them keep the fries, because I don't care and wanted them to learn the lesson on what the customers ACTUALLY ordered. I was waiting the WHOLE TIME on my fries while eating my dinner to the point when I was just "FORGET IT! Keep the da&n fries!" The man wearing jeans, a light red motorcycle shirt, glasses on, and a light grey beret cap, he brought out my order and did NOT bring out my fries! I fully expect the food to be better and taste the same as the old Redneck Cafe. Also I expect the bar/grill to hire more servers, because that place was running on two of them the whole time I was there!

I have an admission to make and it doesn't speak well for my character, but what else is new. I…read morewas enticed to try this place strictly by its name. this lead me to imagining how the place would provide yet another example of how silly texas stuff actually is in today's world. in short, i think texans take themselves much too seriously. they aren't riding the range, or having shootouts (well, not the kind that happen in a corral anyway) or (with air-conditioning everywhere you turn) have much need for a "10-gallon hat". but i had neglected to consider that, all that predictable claptrap aside, this place might actually be enjoyable simply because it's a good "steakhouse". I don't really care much for beef these days, it seems kinda unidimensional flavor-wise, differing mainly in tenderness, cut and age of the meat. there is something to the choice of how "well" you like the meat cooked, and in that regard it's much like lamb to me: flavor gets more complex with time and heat. I prefer lamb braised like the greeks do it, rather than grill-marked with red-pink inside. Likewise with beef, which needs to be carefully broiled or grilled to a point just before the protein begins to dewater from being overly done. well/medium well is a tough call to attain given that the cooking continues several minutes after the heat is removed. So here's the serious good about the redneck grill: go for the 16 ounce ribeye: the cut is about as tender as texas steak gets (don't know where peter luger gets their meat but at one time the old man personally selected the incoming hindquarters off the truck). 12 is mainly thinner and has a bit more fat. forego any additional seasoning on anything (french fries included) as there is more than enough salt and etc already. order it cooked to your taste, the kitchen will make a good effort to deliver it that way. this has been my best restaurant experience in this little town, for whatever that's worth. but of course there's plenty of the old texas-texas-texas claptrap to amuse you: the ever-popular cowhide on the wall, exposed brick behind broken terra cotta, creative use of corrugated metal siding as wall covering, expired texas license plates decorating the walls, antiquey kinds of lamps emitting low level light, etc etc etc. ok, i give up on this, texas is still mostly texas once you're outside the perimeter of one of the hopelessly overgrown metroplexes. if you're planning to relocate here to buy a cheap house and avoid state income taxes, enjoy it. i'm going home tomorrow.
