Amsterdam, The Netherlands Something fun to do as a tourist while in town. We just arrived in Amsterdam; we dropped off our luggage and came here straight. We had like 45 minutes before our allotted time, so the timing worked out. We lined up for the entrance with a few people ahead of us. At the bar, we were welcomed and given tokens to pay for the drinks - one for the bar outside and two for inside. A host put on a little show, and once the bell rang, we were allowed enter. Jackets are provided as well as gloves. Once inside, you can feel the coldness right away. We took some pictures and went to the Ice Bar for our free drinks. I ordered a strong one, but it tasted like water and didn't do much. I expected more overall. The inside is small, compact, and there isn't much room to move around. Not a lot to see or do besides watching the other tourists. You can purchase your photos on your way out, and the prices aren't bad. Fun experience! The maximum time in the ice bar is 20 minutes, but it's 14.9 degrees F, so many don't last more than 15 minutes. They provide down jackets and gloves. Bought our tickets online from Headout app, a combo with the canal cruise we went on yesterday. Because our canal cruise was late to board, we had to walk fast for 25 minutes in the rain to get to this bar, arriving exactly at 7:40. We were already cold so we were grateful that our entry to the ice bar was delayed (we arrived at 7:40, but you have get there 20 minutes AHEAD of your ticket time to get in). The staff at the front kindly changed our entry time to 8:00, gave us a good token for in the front bar and 2 silver tokens for the ice bar. In the front bar we enjoyed Moscow mules (limited menu for cocktails) and in the ice bar we each had two shots, served in ice shot glasses. I had the vodka coconut shot and the whipped cream vodka shot, which was my favorite. My husband chose the Sambuka (anis) shot and also the cream vodka shot. We took some photos, mingled with other freezing people, and enjoyed the dance music playing. The floors were slick from being frozen, so I tried dancing a bit but then thought better of it because space was limited and also the risk of falling was high. We all know that the Dutch were famous with their mastery of expiration, but who knows that who knew that they got stuck in the cold on this level. The staff member are lightly dressed like explorers which I think it's cool and so 1500 Amsterdam extra cold ice bar is worth every penny. There is nothing better than having a plunging cold drink and a plunge cold glass. I prefer do this with someone you love and want to shiver with pictures. Because no matter what you will wanna buy the picture everyone's happy the people outside the people to take the ticket even the bartender here's a pro one don't get a drink before you go in to the chamber by your two drinks there with your silver coin then spin your gold coin on a more tropical drink once you exit. Sex on the beach. It's a great option to warm you up after the very cold experience on the inside. I cannot wait to come back and also visit their version they have in Berlin, but I'm sure it's just as I see. Bonus hack if you wanna warm up your hands after holding an actual glass made entirely of ice. I recommend 6 to 7 sessions with the Dyson air blade hand warmer in the restroom. This place wasn't originally on my itinerary for Amsterdam, but I made a new friend who wanted to try it out and I thought why not. For about €25 per person you get 3 tokens that you can redeem for drinks. 1 of these tokens can be used at the bar area outside of the actual ice bar and then you can redeem 2 drinks in the actual ice bar. Now, I did find the drinks you can redeem with the tokens to be quite limited, you can only pick a select few from their menu. Also, I ordered a "sex on the beach" (actually I ordered two) and I could barely taste any alcohol. If they did put any vodka it was a very very small amount. For the price I don't think they should water down the drinks like that. Obviously it's very cold, the actual ice bar is about-15 degrees, they didn't specify if that was Fahrenheit or Celsius. Regardless it's pretty cold in there. They state most people can only last about 20 mins, I think it's an accurate statement! I will say the lighting is very good for taking photos! As long as they don't have it on a certain color like purple, red, green, etc. Overall, it's a cute tourist attraction, I do believe it's a little overpriced for the experience you're getting but I still think it's a cool experience (No pun intended). read more

It was a "chilly" experience! Really great tour to take while visiting Amsterdam. You get three free drinks when you book the tour, so you're already off to a great start! They have enough bartenders to help everyone while you wait in the "first" bar, so service was awesome. So using your GOLD coin for your first drink was easy to get. Then you get a cool video (I won't ruin it), before going in and getting bundled up for your ice adventure! Big coats, gloves, the whole nine. When inside, you get two drinks (2 silver coins) while you take pictures, and freeze! Everyone was having a blast, and the groups aren't too big, so you can move around freely. Fun experience! Don't expect a lot from this, but if you want cute photos + a couple good drinks, this is the place for you. The guy who led the mini ice voyage was hilarious and really made our day. It's more of a couple place from our experience but I went with my best friend and we had a blast. $24.50 per person, but that includes a entry drink, a drink in the ice room, and an exit drink. I had always seen people come here when visiting Amsterdam, so we booked tickets to visit the day of. Even though it was a cold and rainy day, we decided to come here to be even colder (silly me). Once inside, there is a bar where you can claim one drink. When it's your time to go into the Ice Bar, everyone lines up to get a jacket and gloves. I'm not sure how clean this is being reused every half hour or so though. Either way, we made our way inside the freezing ice bar. Yes, it's freezing cold and you will barely be able to hold your phone to take photos without the gloves on. Inside the ice bar, you can claim two drinks, which is a beer or flavored vodka. I enjoyed the almond, but most flavored vodka just reminds me of college days. The ice bar isn't very big. You're basically in a big freezer with some decor that's paper. It's pretty cheaply done if you ask me. The only cool part is drinking out of an ice shotglass or mug. For €24.50 per person, it seems like a nice deal with 3 drinks, but I'd pass. The drinks are too sweet and the crowd was a bit rowdy. If you like college frat party vibes then you'd enjoy it more than I did. Quite frankly, it was very touristy. read more

Fun spot! We saw the Xtracold Ice Bar while on the Hop On Hop Off Canal Boat and had to check it out. Staff was great. We thought it might be a bust but it was a fun time. The temp is COLD!!! -9.4C which is 15 F!!! Our cheeks were rosy! The jackets they provided were comfy are necessary. The gloves were clean. Great drinks. Visited on a long layover in Amsterdam recently. We purchased tickets pretty last minute and many were available. This was my first ice bar experience. There was a short but entertaining presentation by the worker there and we were given rules. For 24.50 €, you get 3 drinks + entrance to the ice bar which isn't bad. You also get a jacket to wear as well as gloves. The drink choices weren't my favorite and you couldn't customize them. I opted for Heineken and juice as I was jet lagged but other options included very fruity shots/sweet drinks. I wish it was any drinks as I would opted for a rail drink. The ice bar itself was nice and I loved the glass cups...these kept by beer extremely cold which was great. They took photos they wanted you to buy which is fine but when they did this they had the lights on which took away from some of the atmosphere. Overall, a fun experience but nothing amazing. The Xtracold Icebar isn't an experience for me. I have seen ice bars on Instagram and was expecting an igloo but it's actually a huge freezer. It isn't a huge loss going for an hour as they give you 3 drinks with your ticket. That's worth the ticket price. For me it's a little too much like being in Cancun. Hard pass. Not my jam. A one of a kind experience. When I began planning my trip to Amsterdam I knew I had to visit the Ice bar. The concept of being in an ice room and drinking from and ice shot glass was exciting to me. We were given two complimentary drinks inside the actual ice bar and a drink in the waiting area. So, it's a tourist spot. But 19 euro for three drinks, plus an experience if you buy online? Sign me up. Yes, the people at the door act like it's an exclusive place and tell you it's full and the next opening is hours later. It's not. Also, paying at the door is 26+ euro vs 19. They'll tell you the difference is a photo, which interests you, but it doesn't include buying the photo, which is another 7 or 8 euro. So walk to the side or down the street to a coffee shop if you don't have internet, and Google the place. Purchase tickets for as soon as half an hour, and save yourself some money. The drinks. They're actually good. I had the Amsterdammed prior to the experience. Inside, I got a beer, then the cream vodka. The trick once you're in the ice bar is to get the beer first, thus giving you a larger glass to be refilled with your second drink. Get a shot first... And enjoy the world's smallest Heineken. The experience. The pre-show is cute. Kinda reminiscent of Disney and pirates. I'm a fan. The ice, it's freezing. Wear gloves, scarves, beanies, jackets. It's a tourist trap, but hey, it's a fun one if you have the time. We came here because we fell into the tourist trap, of learning that it was an ice bar where you wear a big coat, gloves and drink from a cup made entirely of ice! I mean, we were already in the area, too, so why the heck not? It was a fun experience. There is a counter outside the main entrance where you can get tickets at the door. Although this is an option, many people get their tickets online, which the cashier recommended for purchasing, if we wanted to get into an earlier slot instead of waiting hours later. Therefore, get your tickets online, if you want don't wanna wait around until a slot is open. Only a certain amount of people can get into the ice bar at designated times. For admission, you get three drink tokens where one drink token is used in the lobby bar until your time slot is allowed into the ice bar. For the drink tokens - it's only the drinks that are listed, ranging from Heineken beer to gin cocktails. The entire scene is kind of cheesy. It's pirate-themed, so when you're in the lobby bar, about to get into the ice bar, a video plays that you're on a voyage into the sea in the winter...hence, the ice bar. All of the staff are also dressed up in character as pirates. It's all a part of the show. Before you get into the ice bar you're given a down coat and gloves. And you walk in and yes, it's super freakin' cold in there! You'll be glad for the provided apparel. There's a bar counter where you get your two drinks. One of the drinks we ordered was a hazelnut-chocolate shot, which was amazing, especially over ice! You're kind of rushed out within half an hour, for another group to come in. There's a staff photographer, taking pics of everyone and you can purchase your photo before you leave, just like at any tourist spot. Staff were super friendly and fun to hang out with, especially the pirates in the ice bar! Ice bar Xtra Cold isn't something I recommend specifically going to, especially if you're visiting Amsterdam. It is true to the name of the place "XtraCold". When we arrived we were late to our reservation (highly recommend reserving in advance or please be advice you will be switched to a later time). We came back about an hour later after having dinner down the street at Frenzi. We were given 3 tokens, 1 cocktail token prior to entering and 2 for the actual ice bar. The ice bar is pretty neat, please be advice with the slipppery service -- you are then granted two more shots and OG. I enjoyed the experience but it's one of those things you go to once and you've experience it all. For the amount of money, you really don't get to spend sooo much time there due to the temperature. Went to the Icebar today since I had a combined tour deal for the bar and a canal tour. Everyone needs to have a reservation to get in which is nice. This place is not a spot for locals and it's a little cheesy in my opinion but I got a good deal on it for 3 drinks and about an hours worth of an experience. I think this is probably the best place I went to in Holland. It was super super cold but before going into the ice bar, they give you a big warm jacket because its super cold in there. They also have one of the best drinks there. I am not sure what it was but the experience was wonderful. It was quick, if you can stay there longer, great but maybe not too long because its cold. This was probably one of the most touristy thing I did while I was in Amsterdam but it was pretty fun. I'm not sure of how I found out about this bar but I'm glad I went. It was a fun little time and I would reccomend it as a way of kicking off an evening. I brought printed copies of our tickets and it was a fairly easy process. There was a short line as nd we waited no more than 5 minutes to get in. O ve we were in we were given our drink tokens. One for the main bar while we waited to go in to the "ice bar" and two tokens for the inside. Seeing as how any tourist area can be expensive, I thought it was a pretty good deal. Before we could finish our first drink it was time to go into the icebar. But, it was ok because we just sipped it while we waited in line. Before going into the icebar we were providing with a down jacket and gloves. Which is nice but after the constant use from so many people everything felt damp and had a funny smell. But it was still very useful. Once inside the bar you get two drinks which is really a choice of beer or shots. I'm not a beer drinker so I opted for shots. I can't recall the name but the one shot tasted like dessert. It was amazing!! It's not the biggest space so everyone was squeezing in and around the bar. There are few spots to take pictures but mostly everyone is hopping around trying to stay warm. A man walks around taking your picture and at if you choose you can buy your print at the end (tourist spot at its finest). Overall it was fun and silly. I don't necessarily think it's a "must" on the list of things to do in Amster but if you have some extra time I say why not. read more

What a horrible experience! I was in Amsterdam on my way to Paris and decided to go with my family so I purchased tickets online. Side note: don't buy tickets online for excursions or even train or bus tickets in Europe. Excursions are either open and you can purchase tickets in person or they will be closed and you'll pay for nothing. Anyway, we get to the Icebar and right away the front door host tells us the tour/attraction is closed due to lack of customers/tickets sold. So what do I do now right? He advised me to send an email to get a refund. I didn't even know the tickets included 3 drinks which I wasn't even offered when told the place was closed I'm assuming because they were packing things up. So after my travels I decided to email about getting a refund and was told that they wouldn't give me a refund. What?! They told me they closed early due to lack of customers and im still not getting a refund?! I was told the tickets would be valid for 12 months so I can use them by then lol I don't travel to Amsterdam often so what type of sense does that make. I will definitely not recommend this establishment to anyone after this. The overall 3 stars on their page now makes sense. read more

Excellent experience but boy, oh boy, is this place cold. After about 15 minutes you'll be ready to go. It is such a fun experience and totally worth the money. My friend and I purchased our tickets for about 18 euros each, which included three drinks - two inside the ice bar and one outside. Did I mention that it was really cold. I stopped here on a recent trip to Amsterdam. I found discount tickets online on a travel website and paid $20.00 for access to the Icebar & 3 drinks. With purchase, you are assigned a time slot for access to the ice bar and 3 drink tokens. 1 drink token can be used in the main bar area where you have about 6 drink options. An announcement is made, a pirate comes out and a video plays to set the scene but I couldn't hear much of either. Once the video/pirate speech is done you are instructed to make your way towards the back to access the ice bar. Before entereing you are given a coat & gloves to help withstand the cold temps. The ice bar itself is on the small side but really cool (pun intended). There is one bar, a couple of tables, and one ice seat. There are also props so you can take pictures such as helm steering wheel, fish ice cubes, fish nets and etc. While in the ice bar you can use your other 2 drink tokens but you have even fewer drink options flavored shots or beer. This place is so kitschy and touristy which isn't usually my thing but I really enjoyed it. First off, get your tickets from one of those tour kiosks and save some euros. The price includes 3 drinks. The "cocktails" are watered down so I would suggest a beer. The ice bar is cold...I knew it was an ice bar before we entered but my friend and I lasted about 10-15 minutes before we had to exit. Yes they provide gloves and a jacket for you to wear but my fingers and toes started to go numb so I had to leave. Fun novelty bar, definitely worth a visit if you're a tourist as it's pretty unique. Definitely recommend buying your tickets beforehand, it's usually cheaper and guarantees you'll get in. It's a little ridiculous. They make you watch some 3 minute pirate show before you enter to get you in the mood. It's so ridiculous and corny it's as bad as me using the word corny. Go in, freeze a little, get some pics, take 2 poor quality drink shots and leave. They give you 3 drink tokens, one before u enter and 2 for the ice bar. You basically pay $20 for the drinks. First let me say I don't drink or go to bars. I went for the experience and I will go again. I was expecting a typical bar scene (which I am not a fan of) but this was different. Schedule your time slot and go! The entry includes 1 cocktail beer or wine at the bar and 2 shots inside the ice tundra. They provided gloves and coats. Our captain Baris was a lot of fun and very interactive. First off.. it was freezing! They give you three coins for drinks with the price of admission. The first coin is spent in a holding area with a bar that is pretty traditional. After the ice bar space opens you are given winter gear to use to protect from frostbite. A coat and gloves. In the ice bar you have two coins to spend on flavored vodka shots or beer. All of the bar ware is made of ice and all of the tables and seats are as well. There are sculptures of animals and items incased in ice. It's a cool gimmick and I certainly enjoyed it. I just wish there was a shot luge or something to send the experience over the top. All in all it was a good experience....and shout out to Blanche at the door for being amazing!
