Combined, it means "Lord of the Stars" Near the corner of MLK and Shattuck Ave- across from Trader Joe's is this nice little vegetarian Indian restaurant. A recommendation from a client I had today directed me here before my trip home over the San Rafael Richmond Bridge. I found a parking spot right around the corner. One space from the corner is Udupi Palace and the Corner space is a Turkish restaurant that once was a breakfast spot that I used to frequent back in 1984. A memory jolt from times long ago when I worked for a minute across the street at a modern furniture store-"The Apartment Store." Chrome, glass, and marble home furnishings that took several months to deliver and required a 50% deposit. A strange business model indeed! To my delight, my meal came much quicker. A nice portion for my curry entrée which came complete with rice, Poori: Deep-fried, puffed whole wheat bread, and I believe a piece of Papadum: a thin, crisp wafer made from lentil flour. VEGETABLE KORMA: Fresh vegetables cooked with cream and mild spices.(Served with rice, poori or chapati pickle, raita and papad.) $15.95 Friendly service as well and I was offered extra rice, complementary.

At the end of our service as we paid for our food our total was 70 bucks and gave a 20% tip with…read morewould be 84 bucks. When I went to pay, the total became 97 dollars! They overcharged us. So if you ever go to this place as I don't recommend it, be sure to check your bill. As we finished paying, another waitress comes up and hands me a receipt. As I tell her that I already paid, she looked at me confusingly and tried to solve the issue. As she went from worker to worker, I see her point at me multiple times going to every worker that wasn't the one I told her that took our payment. She finally goes to the waiter that took our payment and they try to sort everything out. He asks that I check my bank account to see if it went through, which it did. Then the people who were working at the bar, I assume they were the managers or higher ups, came and suggested that I pay again and to call them if both payments went through so that they cancel the other one. This to me made no sense to why I have to personally call them when I can dispute it with my bank. Also why can't they just cancel the previous one, since they suggested I had to call them, and I pay again. The whole back and forth was very confusing. Then when I tried to pay again, it said "you used this card 13 minutes ago do you want to use it again". After believing that I didn't pay the whole time, suddenly when that popped up they finally understood that I did pay before. For some reason they didn't believe the waiter when he told them that I did pay. There was a lack of communication and trust on their part as well. The waiter was completely apologetic but the other staff did not apologize for berating me. When asking about the overcharge and why it was higher, the waiter said "I don't know" which made me confused as to why. Upon reading the other reviews, I understand that this is a repeated occurrence so be warned. The food, service, ambiance was alright before but not worth the experience. I would not go again.
