Cons - I made an appointment to have prescriptions refills. Dr Chen said it was mandatory to have an appointment as it had been over a year since my last visit with her (not a problem). When I scheduled my appointment, I explicitly asked for a medication assessment, as suggested by my therapist due to escalating anxiety and depression symptoms. At no point prior to my appointment was I informed that they do not provide that service and the Dr seemed confused about it when I went for my appointment. Long story short, the Dr was completely insensitive to my struggles with anxiety/depression. She suggested I try drawing or hiking because hiking makes her happy, she also said that therapy should be working. Pros - I like that they are able to communicate via text, it's really convenient. Wait time was minimal when I went for my last appointment. Dr suggested a magnesium supplement Calm to help with anxiety. I purchased it and will give it a try. She suggested a referral to a psychiatrist, which would have been helpful know prior to that appointment. I'm sure she's great with some clients, the experience was just horrific for me personally so I will be seeking a new doctor. read more

I recently moved from SF to Hayward, and Dr. Chen was listed as one of the top suggested Aetna doctors in my area, so I was excited. When I called, the receptionist asked me a *lot* of intake questions around my personal information, detailed insurance information, and the medical reasons I need a doctor. I assumed these were intake questions because they seemed like standard new patient questions. Then ... the receptionist then said he needed to "check" if they had any new appointment spots, for new patients, and he would "try" to text me if they could see me as a new patient. I never was contacted back. What the heck!? Why all the personal + medical information if I was not actually a new patient. At the very least this seems highly inappropriate, and at the most, possibly illegal. Something shady is going on. I think possible discrimination. read more

Dr. Chen is my mom's MD. I guess she is the only choice for many low income families in Hayward. It makes me feel so bad for people paying not cheap insurance but get poor health care. My mom shared many issues with Dr. Chen, the only answer she got from Dr Chen is " you are getting old, that's normal." My mom has high blood pressure and high cholesterol like many senior people. Her cholesterol was controlled by medication but somehow Dr Chen decided to stop the medication because the cholesterol was under control. And every time dr Chen checked her blood test results would say her cholesterol is too high but without offering medication. My mom told her she has severe knee pain and low back pain again, she was told because she is 65 that's pretty happen to every senior and she should worry about her blood pressure and cholesterol. Dr Chen said my mom had heart hypertrophy but she never given any treatments. My mom is also a hepatitis b carrier but dr Chen never ordered ultra sound or blood tests to check her liver. She mentioned to Dr Chen many times whether she should check the liver. Dr Chen just ignored. read more

She is the PCP for both my mom and dad(over 70s) They have multiples diseases and every time Dr. Chen spent lots of time 30-40 mins listening to their concerns, symptoms and medical histories, compared to other doctors who rushed to see patients and left in 3-5 mins. Her accent is very thick so sometimes it's hard to understand her, but the fact that she works with the patient and listens instead of shoving treatments at you like most doctors, makes her superior to any doctor I've seen in the last 7 or more years. This place is strange (not to mention it's shady location): the receptionist would pause the conversation with the patient who came all the way to the office, to answer the phone and talk for 5 minutes, then come back to the patient and finish the conversation in less than 30 seconds; I got here for my 2:30 on time and when I was filling the form which only took 2 minutes, they let the 3 o'clock patient in 30 minutes early, so I had to wait until 3:15. On top of that, the receptionist lied to my face. When I asked them (a guy and a girl) why they let that patient in first, the girl said because that patient was also 2:30. I said I heard her saying she was the 3 o'clock 1 foot away. Also, it would be strange if they scheduled 2 people for the exactly same time. Then she changed the subject. Never apologized. The doctor seemed clueless. She actually asked ME for the opinion. Will never come back. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Chin for a quite a long time, She knows my condition I have a very bad back and I have been seen by many doctors. I understand that prescribing opioids by any doctor now in days and especially being seen on the media All doctors are not prescribing and are very careful and cautious to whom there prescribed to. I had a laminectomy done back in 2008, I don't wish any surgery's upon anyone . I showed her today a MRI, report form a doctor that she referred me to, clearly showing I'm in Chronic pain. Norcos do take the edge off. I have seen a neurosurgeon and was told I need a major surgery needing hardware rods screws you name it and will be in the wheelchair for a year and a half before I can learn to walk again. I refused the surgery because of the fact being in a wheelchair. Not to mention that the surgery is very risky and may not even walk afterwards. Obviously I elected not to proceed with the surgery. I went over it with her many times she will not prescribed any kind of pain killers she said to take Tylenol Aleve and Advil and if those don't work will see what happens so I did no pain relief at all.. today she said I will give you 14 pills for 3 months only. And if I don't like it to go somewhere else and don't come back to her office asking for anything else. How rude can a doctor get ! Also if you're appointment for example is 1030 she won't see you until 1130 she lets others of her kind always go first. No I'm not racist or trying to be.. i'm still in shock when she told me don't come back here and I'm not going to give you anything and if you don't like it go somewhere else. I'm new to having private insurance after having Kaiser for many years. Dr. Chen was one of the few doctors listed on the Blue Cross website as excepting new patients. I booked my appointment fairly easily. I arrived to the Pleasanton office on time. It was a chiropractic office that apparently she was using an extra room for her medical practice. (First weird thing) I tried to keep an open mind since I'm used to the Kaiser system. Completed my paperwork had my "meeting" with her. She didn't examine me other than listen to my lungs and my heart while sitting in her office behind her desk. (Second strange thing). I told her I was a healthy person overall I just needed to establish with a primary care physician just Incase I needed someone. I also needed a referral to a specialist for my Ritalin medication. (Later found out that wasn't true as I have a PPO and can go anywhere). After two weeks no word from the doctors office about my referral. Called the specialist no record of the referral. Had blood work done. No call from the doctor about the results. Unless you speak fluent Chineese it's very difficult to communicate with her. Need to find a new doctor again....... read more

I do not know who the female was that answered the phone but she gets a minus ten for customer service. The woke generation doesn't realize yet the power customers have. Not sure if she should be certified as a doctor. Sometimes I question her practice. She doesn't seem to be knowledgeable in her own field and that is the scary part. Three out of five times when I come to her she has dissappointed me. She doesn't do a thorough job when she's examining her patients. Also there is a language barrier she speaks poor English and it's hard to communicate with her. Finally she has an attitude problem when I asked her why I wasn't allowed to have that particular exam she rolled her eyes at me and her vague response was you're too young for a stool test. Really?! Since when did age affect a stool test? Lol. She's a clown. She even said that my fasting glucose level was too high and it was only 90. A normal glucose level ranges from 70-110.haha anyway I can say more about her ignorance but I'll stop here. All I can say is I wouldn't recommend her to anyone. read more

First thing is first, THIS IS THE MOST HORRIBLE DR EVER. I've even dealing with severe back pain for years, and this stupid lady doesn't know how to even take care of it. I've been coming to her for years and she just keeps having me do blood work. I'm following all her orders and she still doesn't help me. The last two years she had me go to pain specialist and they said do surgery, I agreed. The surgeon told me to go to my primary dr for pain treatment till surgery, I go to her and shes treating me like a straight dope head. She told me to come to her once a month until surgery and today she just went off on me FOR NO REASON. I kept my cool but up until the end where she started to LITERALLY DISRESPECT ME telling me to basically get out of her office when I kept reminding her WHAT SHE ORDERED ME TO DO. She doesnt know how to treat patients. She basically told me in her own ways to "fxck off". All she does is make you do blood work for YEARS and will basically say you're getting old it's a part of life get used to it. But today I lost my mind on the way out and had to say something because for years she's treated me like complete crap. I'm in severe pain to where my daily activities are limited. She doesn't even have a license to draw blood, and still does it to me and other patients. The first and last time I got blood drawn from her she couldn't even get a drop of blood out and left a needle in my arm. I've seen a few people tell her to remove the needle as well. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PIECE OF SHXT DR TO ANYONE! I'm just angry as to how she treated me for years acting as if im the wrong one when the xrays and ct scans and even the surgeons/specialists say "you have a very bad back".
