If I had to describe this place in two words, it would be missed potential. The food here was honestly amazing, but unfortunately, the service didn't quite live up to the quality of the food. If Yelp allowed half stars, I would give this place a 3.5/5, and I'll explain why. Starting with the food, I honestly have no complaints. The fish was incredibly fresh, and you could tell they weren't cutting corners when it came to quality. Everything we ordered from the sushi bar tasted great, and the rolls were a good size with generous portions. The fried food was also amazing, perfectly crispy and cooked well without feeling overly greasy. The ramen was another solid choice, and overall, the food was easily the highlight of our visit. Whoever is running the kitchen and sushi bar definitely knows what they're doing. Unfortunately, the service was a completely different story. This was our first time visiting, and from the moment we walked in, the experience felt a little underwhelming. We weren't greeted with much enthusiasm, nobody seemed to have a smile on their face, and there wasn't much effort to make us feel welcomed. Since this was our first visit, we weren't familiar with how everything worked, and nobody took the time to explain the ordering process. One thing I found a little strange was how the food was brought to our table. Whenever our sushi orders arrived, nobody explained which fish was which. They would bring the plates over, stand there looking at us, and wait for us to figure out where to make room. No "excuse me," no asking us to move a plate, or even a simple explanation of what they were serving. It was almost like we were supposed to read their minds. Another thing was the water situation. Our glasses weren't refilled unless we asked, and even then, we had to ask multiple times. I understand restaurants get busy, and I don't expect someone to constantly check on our table, but I feel like refilling water is one of the simplest parts of good service. What disappointed me the most was the overall lack of friendliness. There wasn't much conversation, no checking in to see how our food was, and honestly, no real sense of hospitality throughout our meal. Of course, once it was time for the bill and tip, the interaction suddenly felt a little more attentive. I'm honestly one of the easiest people to please when it comes to restaurants. I don't expect anything fancy, and a simple smile, friendly greeting, and decent service go a long way with me. I've only ever given five-star reviews on Yelp, so writing something less than five stars is a little difficult for me, especially when the food was this good. Overall, I think this restaurant has a lot of potential. The quality of the fish, the sushi, the fried food, and the ramen were all excellent, and I would gladly come back for the food alone. I feel like with a little more attention to customer service and hospitality, this place would easily be a five star experience. I'm also interested in trying their Buena Park location to see how the two compare. Great food deserves great service, and unfortunately, this visit only delivered on one of those.
This place is the place to go for quick and friendly service. Food is delicious and fresh. Good for large group because the atmosphere is loud.
I've heard many good things about this place and I understand why! We were luckily enough to come on a day that wasn't too crowded and got seared immediately. The chairs imo, were too high for the table, I felt like I was hovering over the food, idk if that makes sense but something I noticed immediately after sitting. The menu system is a bit confusing. There's a paper menu and one you place online via QR code. For the paper menu, we were limited to 20 pieces of nigiri at a time. This wasn't a huge deal since it was only 2 of us, but I can see how that can become frustrating with larger groups especially since there's only 3 rounds, unless the limit increases with group size. The online ordering system only allowed you to order 2 appetizers at a time. I love me some baked mussels and unfortunately 1 order = 1 baked mussels which means we were only able to order 2 mussels at a time and then have to wait until our 5 minute wait period is over before placing another order. This is the first sushi restaurant that I been to that had this small of a limit... They also limited you on the carpaccio order but that was expected. Aside from the menu and ordering frustration, I think their food and service is great. Their fish tasted very high quality and the fish to rice ratio was spot on! They had many different options of nigiri to try, so we definitely got to try a little of everything. There was only 1 item we didn't like and our server was kind enough to remove it from our bill. Overall it was a good place for high quality sushi. I just wish I wasn't so limited when placing orders since it is ayce and they already emphasis the leftover charge.
Sushi sushi sushi. Loved everything about this place - the service, the food, and the ambiance. Fish is fresh and price is very reasonable. We went here right when they opened on a Sunday and didn't have to wait for a table. Plenty of parking and near so many good places to walk to after eating all that sushi.
came first thing when they opened on a Saturday, it def was already pretty busy and they seemed short staffed. During our meal there was someone who i assumed was newer to the restaurant and the person training or teaching them was really loud and kind of rude pointing and touching all the tables trying to teach the new person the layout. I understand training but I don't think it was a good idea to do it in front of full tables of guests. or maybe have a map of the tables near the kitchen for them to review but training very very loudly and disturbing others guests just did not sit well. Besides that the food was great as always. I wish they did offer a less rice option but the portion isn't as much as other places. It's a very very busy location so i would recommend getting there a decent amount of time earlier than you'd want to eat.
Service was good and quick ~ never had to wait long to place new ayce rounds, arrived around 3pm on a Saturday for a party of 4 and no wait. Interior is really clean and nice decor. We did the $42 ayce standard and it was very good. Probably my favorite ayce sushi places. They have a huge menu of nigiri, carpaccio, appetizers, ramen, rolls with a handful of rice less rolls (we liked the Sakura roll). Sushi quality was great! Some items are limited to 2 pc per person like the carpaccio and those were some of our favorites. Unagi (eel) is limited in sushi form but you can get unlimited eel hand rolls.
Good quality for a reasonable price. Personal favorites are the mackerel and squid. The service was good and quick. Their sides of ginger was great for a palette cleanser.
Still my fav all you can eat sushi spot. Lunch deal is such a great deal. If you like salmon. Don't sleep on this spot. I hate when all the fish taste the same. But here the salmon is always nice and buttery. Great texture Salmon bomb I get regular salmon and peppered that has a slight sear Udon soup is really good here. Get the Nagasaki spicy udon. Flavor is so good. Little char flavor that I love. This is a must get Fried tempura shrimp is done well Always good food. Always great service. Plenty of parking

X-Fish has been on my list for quite awhile and finally it got to try it. We did the lunch signature $41.99 pp My friends have been raving at how affordable and delish the fish here is esp the toro but I had one order of it and I did not want another order off the menu at all. Only good tasting item was the Alaskan roll. Calamari Karaage is also a good appetizer. Items we tried during our visit: *Baked Mussel - came out on the cold side. Baked mussels is usually warm. *Alaskan Roll *Orion Draft *Grilled Chicken Teriyaki (Half Size) tastes like they used old oil or it's been in the deep freezer for awhile. *Albacore Carpaccio (2 pcs) *Yellowtail Carpaccio (2 pcs) *Baked Scallop Roll *Rainbow Roll - 1 - tasted normal. Walking into the establishment to put my name down it had a fishy smell. But I tried my best to just keep a positive outlook since I've had friends who rave about the place. But after the meal, I felt like I should've listened to my gut when I smelled how fishy it smelled. Restroom needed attention! Female toliet has no toilet seats and just needed to be cleaned up. I personally would not recommend this spot nor would I come back. I just felt very disappointed and like I wasted my money since it was not the best tasting. Sushi is delicious! Our favorite is smoked salmon, the giant scallops, yuzu yellowtail and Cajun tuna. We enjoyed everything but the tri peppered sushi, they were mildly flavored and underwhelming. The first two rounds of our order arrived quickly but the third time we had to get the servers attention to pick up the order sheet (I noticed another table had to do the same) staff passed by our table multiple times and didn't pick it up. This time the sushi took a long time to arrive, it pushed us to the 90 minute time limit. I appreciated one staff member coming by and giving grilled chicken skewer sample (very good!) The restaurant is round shaped and the acoustics inside is awful. It's very noisy and it's difficult to hear the staff. The chairs scrape on the floor. Also the table tops have water damage from the ice water glass condensations, coasters would help. The restrooms were ghetto. One of the women's sink was out of order, one of the stalls was out of toilet paper but the big roll was precariously hanging from the stall door hook and it fell and rolled on the floor. For the price I expected a better experience.
Tried this for dinner on a Thursday around 6 pm with a party of 2. We were seated right away, but heads up, they won't seat you until everyone in your party arrives. It's located in a big shopping center with Ralph's and Home Goods. I'd recommend parking in the open lots since it's much easier to find a spot than using the structure next to X-Fish. We went with the Omakase and spent about $60 each including tip. Food was good with a nice variety, including tonkotsu, sushi (of course), and a chicken BBQ skewer. The seafood quality was solid, although u had just gotten back from Japan, so it's hard not to compare. We wanted to try some of their wines, but they only sold it by the bottle, which was more than we wanted. Taking off 1 star because it was very loud inside. I think it's the way the space is built - everyone's voices seem to echo. Overall, good food and decent value, just not the best place if you're looking to have conversation over dinner.
It's almost $45 a person and it's supposedly renowned but call me picky it's just not worth the hype or cost. Wait times can be extensive due to the popularity. You're limited to 3 rounds (20 pieces each) of nigiri. You're also limited to 2 rolls and 2 appetizers or something absurd for the online menu and have to wait in between to order more. Quality of fish is ok compared to other places I've had, but for the cost it's nothing spectacular. Overall, it's better AYCE than other places I've been, but it's on the higher cost end for AYCE. The overall ambiance is nice and fancier. It's really clean inside and feels premium.

They have a good variety of sushi and rolls, and the portions are just right so you can try a little bit of everything. Celebrated our wedding anniversary at X-Fish Izakaya and finally got to try the spot we've been hearing so much about. We came in with no expectations and waited about 30 minutes--not bad at all considering how busy they get. The ambiance was beautiful, with high open windows bringing in lots of natural light, giving the space a bright and airy feel. We decided to go with the omakase AYCE, but it came with a few surprises. It's not exactly a true all-you-can-eat experience--there's a limit of 20 pieces of nigiri per round (up to 3 rounds), plus only 2 hot items per order. It felt a bit restrictive and slightly misleading for AYCE, which was a little disappointing--especially since many AYCE spots have similar limits on premium items. That said, the highlight was definitely the bluefin tuna--fresh, flavorful, and worth it. The omakase option gives you access to more premium cuts compared to the regular AYCE, where you're limited to just a couple pieces. Overall, a mixed experience: great ambiance and quality fish, but just be aware of the limitations before you go in. Still a fun anniversary dinner and glad we finally tried it! read more

The nigiri was incredible! Each slice was fresh cut and had a great quality of freshness. The fish to rice ratio on the nigiri is the best I have seen to this day, with each piece of rice merely complimenting the fish rather than diluting its taste. Special commendation to the squid since it was the perfect texture and tenderness. The peppered salmon was also quite special as well. Service was top notch with servers consistently clearing the table and refilling drinks. Our party never had to call a waiter over or ask for anything since waiters were very efficient and attentive. The interior is very well kept and has a simple, but elegant vibe. Great place for anyone,and is especially family friendly since children under 3'3 eat free and children between 3'3 to 4'3 eat at half price. My party went right at the 11AM opening for immediate service and no wait. We had the lunch time deal, but I would definitely recommend all of their services and am excited to try the omakase next time. This place is a premium! We will be back! read more

The nigiri options are pretty good and the yellowtail sushi with green sauce was very nice. The yellowtail and tuna rolls were also very fresh and packed with flavor. The inside is quite big with plenty of tables, but even then this place gets packed even early during lunch hours and we had to wait 45 minutes on the waitlist to get seated. It's a little annoying because their lunch AYCE ends at 2pm and we were sat at 2pm and they told us it was dinner menu only. The ambiance is simple yet modern. The service was pretty good. You basically get a QR code that you can and then you use your phone to make the selections and send it to the kitchen and it is brought to the table. Besides that, this was a great AYCE sushi option in Brea and the locals clearly know because the place is loud and packed the whole time we were dining there. Beautifully yet minimalistic decoration. Service was good, slightly slow due to the lunch rush at 1:15pm. Wait time at check in on the iPad stated 20-45 minutes. But we were seated within 15 minutes. So that was a total plus. Good was delicious. Some of the best miso soup I've had. Nice deep miso flavor. Didn't taste watery or bland. Would have loved more seaweed in the soup though. All of the nigiri were good. Loved the fish to rice ration. Bigger pieces of fish to smaller balls of rice. The tri peppered salmon was way better than the tri peppered tuna. Thought it a bit stingy that you could only order the eel once per person; 2 pieces max. Ordered the shrimp tempura and the vegetable tempura. The dipping sauce for the shrimp tempura was too light and bland for me. The vegetable tempura I found quite lacking. It literally only had 3 pieces of vegetables. We've been frequent customers of Xfish in Brea, so this review isn't based on one random bad experience. After a disappointing previous visit, we decided to give them another chance. Unfortunately, this visit was even worse. At $57 for the omakase option, expectations should be considerably higher. Instead, the fish was surprisingly bland, lacking both flavor and the freshness you would expect at this price point. The presentation looks great, but looks can definitely be deceiving. A few pieces were so unpleasant that we genuinely had trouble getting them down. The biggest disappointment is what Xfish seems to have become. It feels less like a sushi restaurant focused on quality and craftsmanship and more like an assembly line designed to move customers through. Omakase should feel intentional--you should be able to taste and appreciate the care that went into each piece. We felt none of that here. At this point, Xfish feels like it's more name than game. The hype and presentation are there, but the quality simply didn't back it up. For $57 per person, there are smaller, less-hyped sushi restaurants where the chef actually makes you feel like your meal matters. I'd much rather give those places our money. We gave Xfish a second chance hoping our last visit was just an off day. Instead, this visit confirmed that we won't be returning. When the presentation is better than the sushi, there's a problem. read more

Honestly was pleasantly surprised how efficient they are with turning people around. There's always a line. I just wish they didn't limit how many things we can order in one go. Food was surprisingly good overall. Al the appetizers and cooked food were actually great. I think they can improve the fish quality a little bit more considering the price but it's still good quality fish. Came here on a Saturday at 5pm and the wait was about 1 hour. Checked in on the waitlist for a party of 2 in front of the restaurant and went for a quick drink across the street while we waited. I noticed not all tables were filled when we were seated, probably due to lack of staff that night? Not sure. Either way, you scan a QR code to order your food, including drinks. Service was very slow and the food came out slowly too. Our first round took about 25 mins before arriving - we immediately put our second order in when our food came. We ordered the standard Ayce for weekend, not the omakase. I will say the omakase is a good choice if you're really hungry or if you like bluefin tuna. My favorite nigiri of the night was the seared tuna, so fatty and delicious. Everything else was fresh as well. I will say their regular tuna tasted odd though. X fish is a good place in Brea for Ayce, I've come twice now. I'd say give it a shot if you're craving decent sushi, just make sure you have the time to spend waiting! Overall ambiance is calm, even with lots of people. Parking is easy if you park in the structure. Restrooms are located past the sushi bar. read more

Came for the $30 lunch AYCE special, it did not disappoint. I specifically enjoyed the Kiss Me roll the most, I found that the salmon wrap complimented the inside ingredients beautifully, and the chilli oil added just the right amount of spice. I also enjoyed the Alaskan roll, specifically the thinly sliced lemons placed on top, giving the salmon topping a tangy flavour. For non-sushi items, I loved the Tempura Specialty Udon, the broth was so lovely and rich, and the noodles were a good consistency, but a little bit too soft for my liking. I had a roll with spicy tuna in it, and it was very disappointing. The texture was not appetizing at all, and it just tasted like mush, so I would not recommend. Besides that, the service was great, my glass was always full of water, and the place is very spacious and well decorated. I would love to come again, and try some of the rolls I didn't have the chance to try today. read more

I've been to Buena Park location before but decided to try this one since reviews seemed a bit better. We came on Valentine's Day, fully expecting it to be busy, but we ended up waiting about 2-3 hours and didn't get seated until 9:30pm. Service here is the same as the Buena Park location, you'd have to flag servers down to place orders. They don't really check in on you consistently like other restaurants do. What I do like about X-Fish is rice-to-fish ratio. Rice portions are small and fish cuts are generous. Peppered shrimp nigiri, salmon, and bluefin tuna were really good. Only item I would avoid is ikura. It didn't taste fresh at all and honestly had an off taste that made my stomach hurt. Appetizers are solid like croquettes, cheese balls, and edamame, but miso soup came out cold.. which was strange. If you're looking for an AYCE sushi spot with attentive service, I'm not sure this location or Buena Park one would be best choice. To be fair, host did try his best to seat us sooner, which I appreciated. Overall, servers could use more training in customer service since they seemed more engaged chatting with chefs than interacting with customers. read more

UPDATE: my family and I continue to come back every month or so. It's been a fantastic experience. We have found that arriving before 6pm seems the best for minimal wait times for our party of 4. We've come on busy weekends and also weekdays. If you can arrive before 6pm, the wait time hasn't been longer than 20-30 min. It might be more challenging if you have larger parties. But the staff are super friendly and efficient. The quality of the food has been consistent and it's a real pleasure to experience. The fish tastes clean and fresh, and always flavorful. The online ordering of the other non-sushi is easy and convenient to do. Turnaround times are fast despite how busy they get. Still super impressed by this restaurant and HIGHLY RECOMMEND! read more

I have driven past this place several time and finally came in with the boyfriend on a Wednesday night. It wasn't too crazy busy we added our names to the Yelp waitlist and were seated within 10 minutes. We did the all you can eat, if you've never been here before you ordered everything through your phone by scanning a little barcode they give you on a piece of paper and you can also select certain Sushi from the list that they have. Restaurant is super clean, very well lit from what I can remember. The only complaint I would have is that the seats are wooden and hard on the butt to sit on. We decided to order a bunch of dishes to try mainly albacore, yellowtail, salmon, and tuna. Everything tasted very fresh, melted in our mouths. Parking can be a little tricky because if it gets packed, it's limited parking however it's still a big parking a lot but definitely worth it. We will definitely be coming back. read more

We're here pretty regularly and it's always busy. So definitely get here right when they open. Love an AYCR where everything is made to order. You have a sheet to order 3 rounds of nigiri and sashimi items. Some only get one round. You scan a QR code to order all the appetizers, standard and specialty rolls, ramen, udon, etc. It's definitely a good value if you enjoy sushi and can eat a lot of it. They are always quite busy. You show up and you sign in on their guest registry and they will notify you when your table is ready. They do not take reservations.

their reservation isn't accurate, you can put yourself online first, and then, on Saturday I had to wait for an hour, luckily the main street in Brea seems to be colorful and worthy taking a stroke down the Birch street
