If I had to describe this place in two words, it would be missed potential. The food here was honestly amazing, but unfortunately, the service didn't quite live up to the quality of the food. If Yelp allowed half stars, I would give this place a 3.5/5, and I'll explain why. Starting with the food, I honestly have no complaints. The fish was incredibly fresh, and you could tell they weren't cutting corners when it came to quality. Everything we ordered from the sushi bar tasted great, and the rolls were a good size with generous portions. The fried food was also amazing, perfectly crispy and cooked well without feeling overly greasy. The ramen was another solid choice, and overall, the food was easily the highlight of our visit. Whoever is running the kitchen and sushi bar definitely knows what they're doing. Unfortunately, the service was a completely different story. This was our first time visiting, and from the moment we walked in, the experience felt a little underwhelming. We weren't greeted with much enthusiasm, nobody seemed to have a smile on their face, and there wasn't much effort to make us feel welcomed. Since this was our first visit, we weren't familiar with how everything worked, and nobody took the time to explain the ordering process. One thing I found a little strange was how the food was brought to our table. Whenever our sushi orders arrived, nobody explained which fish was which. They would bring the plates over, stand there looking at us, and wait for us to figure out where to make room. No "excuse me," no asking us to move a plate, or even a simple explanation of what they were serving. It was almost like we were supposed to read their minds. Another thing was the water situation. Our glasses weren't refilled unless we asked, and even then, we had to ask multiple times. I understand restaurants get busy, and I don't expect someone to constantly check on our table, but I feel like refilling water is one of the simplest parts of good service. What disappointed me the most was the overall lack of friendliness. There wasn't much conversation, no checking in to see how our food was, and honestly, no real sense of hospitality throughout our meal. Of course, once it was time for the bill and tip, the interaction suddenly felt a little more attentive. I'm honestly one of the easiest people to please when it comes to restaurants. I don't expect anything fancy, and a simple smile, friendly greeting, and decent service go a long way with me. I've only ever given five-star reviews on Yelp, so writing something less than five stars is a little difficult for me, especially when the food was this good. Overall, I think this restaurant has a lot of potential. The quality of the fish, the sushi, the fried food, and the ramen were all excellent, and I would gladly come back for the food alone. I feel like with a little more attention to customer service and hospitality, this place would easily be a five star experience. I'm also interested in trying their Buena Park location to see how the two compare. Great food deserves great service, and unfortunately, this visit only delivered on one of those.
This place is the place to go for quick and friendly service. Food is delicious and fresh. Good for large group because the atmosphere is loud.
I've heard many good things about this place and I understand why! We were luckily enough to come on a day that wasn't too crowded and got seared immediately. The chairs imo, were too high for the table, I felt like I was hovering over the food, idk if that makes sense but something I noticed immediately after sitting. The menu system is a bit confusing. There's a paper menu and one you place online via QR code. For the paper menu, we were limited to 20 pieces of nigiri at a time. This wasn't a huge deal since it was only 2 of us, but I can see how that can become frustrating with larger groups especially since there's only 3 rounds, unless the limit increases with group size. The online ordering system only allowed you to order 2 appetizers at a time. I love me some baked mussels and unfortunately 1 order = 1 baked mussels which means we were only able to order 2 mussels at a time and then have to wait until our 5 minute wait period is over before placing another order. This is the first sushi restaurant that I been to that had this small of a limit... They also limited you on the carpaccio order but that was expected. Aside from the menu and ordering frustration, I think their food and service is great. Their fish tasted very high quality and the fish to rice ratio was spot on! They had many different options of nigiri to try, so we definitely got to try a little of everything. There was only 1 item we didn't like and our server was kind enough to remove it from our bill. Overall it was a good place for high quality sushi. I just wish I wasn't so limited when placing orders since it is ayce and they already emphasis the leftover charge.
Sushi sushi sushi. Loved everything about this place - the service, the food, and the ambiance. Fish is fresh and price is very reasonable. We went here right when they opened on a Sunday and didn't have to wait for a table. Plenty of parking and near so many good places to walk to after eating all that sushi.
came first thing when they opened on a Saturday, it def was already pretty busy and they seemed short staffed. During our meal there was someone who i assumed was newer to the restaurant and the person training or teaching them was really loud and kind of rude pointing and touching all the tables trying to teach the new person the layout. I understand training but I don't think it was a good idea to do it in front of full tables of guests. or maybe have a map of the tables near the kitchen for them to review but training very very loudly and disturbing others guests just did not sit well. Besides that the food was great as always. I wish they did offer a less rice option but the portion isn't as much as other places. It's a very very busy location so i would recommend getting there a decent amount of time earlier than you'd want to eat.
Service was good and quick ~ never had to wait long to place new ayce rounds, arrived around 3pm on a Saturday for a party of 4 and no wait. Interior is really clean and nice decor. We did the $42 ayce standard and it was very good. Probably my favorite ayce sushi places. They have a huge menu of nigiri, carpaccio, appetizers, ramen, rolls with a handful of rice less rolls (we liked the Sakura roll). Sushi quality was great! Some items are limited to 2 pc per person like the carpaccio and those were some of our favorites. Unagi (eel) is limited in sushi form but you can get unlimited eel hand rolls.
Good quality for a reasonable price. Personal favorites are the mackerel and squid. The service was good and quick. Their sides of ginger was great for a palette cleanser.
Still my fav all you can eat sushi spot. Lunch deal is such a great deal. If you like salmon. Don't sleep on this spot. I hate when all the fish taste the same. But here the salmon is always nice and buttery. Great texture Salmon bomb I get regular salmon and peppered that has a slight sear Udon soup is really good here. Get the Nagasaki spicy udon. Flavor is so good. Little char flavor that I love. This is a must get Fried tempura shrimp is done well Always good food. Always great service. Plenty of parking

X-Fish has been on my list for quite awhile and finally it got to try it. We did the lunch signature $41.99 pp My friends have been raving at how affordable and delish the fish here is esp the toro but I had one order of it and I did not want another order off the menu at all. Only good tasting item was the Alaskan roll. Calamari Karaage is also a good appetizer. Items we tried during our visit: *Baked Mussel - came out on the cold side. Baked mussels is usually warm. *Alaskan Roll *Orion Draft *Grilled Chicken Teriyaki (Half Size) tastes like they used old oil or it's been in the deep freezer for awhile. *Albacore Carpaccio (2 pcs) *Yellowtail Carpaccio (2 pcs) *Baked Scallop Roll *Rainbow Roll - 1 - tasted normal. Walking into the establishment to put my name down it had a fishy smell. But I tried my best to just keep a positive outlook since I've had friends who rave about the place. But after the meal, I felt like I should've listened to my gut when I smelled how fishy it smelled. Restroom needed attention! Female toliet has no toilet seats and just needed to be cleaned up. I personally would not recommend this spot nor would I come back. I just felt very disappointed and like I wasted my money since it was not the best tasting. Tips: *Credit card accepted *Indoor seating only *Serves alcohol *Free street/parking structure nearby *They have another location in Buena Park.
Sushi is delicious! Our favorite is smoked salmon, the giant scallops, yuzu yellowtail and Cajun tuna. We enjoyed everything but the tri peppered sushi, they were mildly flavored and underwhelming. The first two rounds of our order arrived quickly but the third time we had to get the servers attention to pick up the order sheet (I noticed another table had to do the same) staff passed by our table multiple times and didn't pick it up. This time the sushi took a long time to arrive, it pushed us to the 90 minute time limit. I appreciated one staff member coming by and giving grilled chicken skewer sample (very good!) The restaurant is round shaped and the acoustics inside is awful. It's very noisy and it's difficult to hear the staff. The chairs scrape on the floor. Also the table tops have water damage from the ice water glass condensations, coasters would help. The restrooms were ghetto. One of the women's sink was out of order, one of the stalls was out of toilet paper but the big roll was precariously hanging from the stall door hook and it fell and rolled on the floor. For the price I expected a better experience.
Tried this for dinner on a Thursday around 6 pm with a party of 2. We were seated right away, but heads up, they won't seat you until everyone in your party arrives. It's located in a big shopping center with Ralph's and Home Goods. I'd recommend parking in the open lots since it's much easier to find a spot than using the structure next to X-Fish. We went with the Omakase and spent about $60 each including tip. Food was good with a nice variety, including tonkotsu, sushi (of course), and a chicken BBQ skewer. The seafood quality was solid, although u had just gotten back from Japan, so it's hard not to compare. We wanted to try some of their wines, but they only sold it by the bottle, which was more than we wanted. Taking off 1 star because it was very loud inside. I think it's the way the space is built - everyone's voices seem to echo. Overall, good food and decent value, just not the best place if you're looking to have conversation over dinner.
It's almost $45 a person and it's supposedly renowned but call me picky it's just not worth the hype or cost. Wait times can be extensive due to the popularity. You're limited to 3 rounds (20 pieces each) of nigiri. You're also limited to 2 rolls and 2 appetizers or something absurd for the online menu and have to wait in between to order more. Quality of fish is ok compared to other places I've had, but for the cost it's nothing spectacular. Overall, it's better AYCE than other places I've been, but it's on the higher cost end for AYCE. The overall ambiance is nice and fancier. It's really clean inside and feels premium.

There is a parking structure in the rear of the location! This place is relatively clean and packed! We went on a Wednesday afternoon and did not have to wait for lunch. I'd recommend the middle tier (signature) for lunch. It took me a while to figure this out, but the X fish menu is mainly sushi rolls which you order on your cell phone via QR code. If you upgrade to the signature tier, you get an additional physical paper sheet that allows you to order three rounds of specific sushi INCLUSIVE of everything on the x fish menu. The waiter takes that sheet and fulfills the order. Once fulfilled they bring the sheet back. However the x fish menu you can order as much as you want You order most of your food from your cell phone.! The waiters were cool however it got busy. read more

We came here to try the AYCE and it did not disappoint. It was $39.99 per person we got the standard one over the premium which was $55. It was to celebrate March birthdays, so our party was a total of 11. We had two kids in our party one was 42 inches tall so he was $19.99 the other was under 39 inches so was free. They measure the kids for height so fyi! Food was excellent, very fresh and came pretty quickly. The AYCE had 3 rounds on the paper but you can scan a QR code and order from the phone for things like ramen, udon etc. they have a super large selection. We ate a lot see my pics for reference! Adding that my fave piece was definitely the pepper salmon, it was perfectly seasoned. I definitely recommend coming early as they get really busy. There's also a free parking structure next to it easy to get in and not far of a walk from there. read more

X-fish is one of the top AYCE spots in my book! Whether dining with a large group or solo they have great service and good food! I love the convenience of being able to order all the rolls and sides from a QR code. The salmon is always a 10/10! The tuna is my second favorite but some nights can be a miss, today's visit there were pieces cut along the grain so that impacted my opinion. Beating the rush by coming around 11:00 AM meant no waiting for a table and getting orders delivered to the table almost instantly. This restaurant isn't anyone's current Fish Izakaya, which is why it's called X-Fish Izakaya. But wow, I wish it is my current Fish Izakaya because it treated me so well last night. Okay now I'll be honest, I had no idea what in the world I was really eating as my group was just ordering left and right without disclosing it to the rest of the group, but what I do know is that it was hella good. The ability to order pieces right away instead of waiting for the server deserves a shout out. The only way I can see it being even more of an improvement is to have a dedicated tablet to order from instead of the customers scanning that dreaded QR Code. But hey, I'll take what I can get right now. Should also point out there is a cool down period so you can't just keep ordering nonstop. Sometimes it'll let you know you gotta chill your gluttonous ass for like 5 minutes before ordering again. Also, it's a REALLY LOUD establishment. Had to talk way louder than I normally do to converse with the homies. But that also means it was popping so it's not bad at all. If I had to give a shout out to any pieces, it'd be the Bluefin and the Jalapeño Roll. Those will be the end of me since I will keep coming back to order those two. read more

First time here. Had the signature menu ($39.99). Parties of 5 or more are automatically charged 18% gratuity. You get 3 rounds of nigiri, each with a 50 piece limit (order this the old fashioned way - paper menu!); you're given a QR code then you can order drinks, ramen, udon, appetizers, rolls, etc via your phone. Fish is fresh, and I highly recommend the yuzu yellowtail and katsuo x fish salmon...the baked mussels are great as well. Only downside was the wait between rounds (as all nigiri are delivered to the table at the same time) so order handrolls and other items to eat in the meantime. read more

I had high hopes for this place! However this place is good from far and far from good. First thing no one greeted us or explain how things work and server just left us to order and figure out things ourselves. Servers always don't pay attention to customers, often just focus on 1 table and walk away, never look around when we tried to flag them down, simple task like refilling water isn't automatic and for the 90 mins we were there, we only got 1 time of water refill, most of the time I pour my water from my car to my son's so that they can have water. The layout of the tables being so tight together I doubt this was fire department approved seating numbers. The atmosphere is trendy vibe but the ugly disgusting cement floor is dirty and even more dirty!! The restaurant goes with semi upscale theme but yet they use McDonald's cheap large roll of thin and narrow toilet paper!! OMG Put something better in there!! Onto the actual food, fish quality is a joke, it's borderline crappy Ayce Chinese buffet sushi quality. Unagi falls apart in pieces, surf clam is harder than any erasers, anything not as fresh is covered by large amount of peppers flakes or spicy sauce. The only good thing is small amount of rice on the negiri but often falls off plenty of times. They worried so much about waste but yet they won't let you order half a roll . Middle of our dinner when we wanted to order more food via website, we got the bill, it got messed up and took 10 minutes or so to fix . My son ordered their ramen, both their picture and item description said it came with an egg but actual item showed up without, when we asked waiter said we need to update menu, you can't let us know ahead of time ?? The pass around menu is a total scam!! Only 1 time chicken skewers showed up and that was it! Once they fixed the website ordering problem, we asked for extra time cos they messed up, they completely ignored us and pretend they've gone deaf !! No one came by to tell us last call on website ordering we did manage to squeeze in our 3rd round of negiri. Some were more nasty than others. The hamachi Kama was okay, not as big as YouTuber's review video( should have known YouTuber can't be trusted !!) Often they collab with restaurants to advertise their place. Conclusion: I don't recommend this place, don't know how they manage to get 4 stars on Yelp. Aburi and Osen sushi in Bruena Park are way way better !!! I would rather drive and go there instead.. 1 star is all I can give them on a good day. read more

X-Fish is a great spot for quality AYCE sushi and yumminess! The sashimi here is awesome and tastes great, especially the nigiri when you're ordering. I went for the standard AYCE option, but this place does offer Omakase! For the standard AYCE option, you are able to order 3 rounds total and a total of up to 10 pieces of sashimi every round. (So that could be a mix of 4 salmon, 4 tuna, and 2 scallops). I will say that the unagi (eel) is delicious, but is limited to 2 pieces total so just keep that in mind if you're an eel lover. There are a couple of highlights here outside of the normal ordering. Two of my most favorite sushi's were the Yuzu Yellowtail and the Katsuo Salmon - as they are paired with either yuzu or a sesame dressing. I would also recommend the scallops as they were paired with a spicy mayo sauce. The carpaccio is good, but is treated more as an appetizer based on the size of the fish being served. The AYCE option also includes options to add ramen, udon, miso soup, sushi rolls, and a ton of other appetizers. I personally order small sides like karaage chicken, miso soup, and shishito peppers so I can prioritize eating all the sushi!! If you're not full after all that you can still order hand rolls and sushi rolls! The atmosphere is busy! I came here on a Thursday night and it was packed with a wait list. I will say it's not the best place to talk and catch up with a friend as the sound of everything just echoes off the walls and you're forced to speak loudly (they even have music playing). Service was good. The staff was nice and greeted us as we came in. They walked us through the menu and how to order; The food was delivered quickly, but the only thing was that it took almost 20 minutes just to get a refill of water and wasabi! Too long of a time for an AYCE place that limits you to 90 minutes. Overall, I would recommend for a quality, yummy sushi experience! read more

Food The food is high quality, well prepared, and tasty. The portion size is small for the price. Service Hit and miss. This place is busy, so getting attention is sometimes difficult. Additionally, not knowing how the three AYCE lunch options work, we asked for some guidance. It was a fire hose of information and it really didn't sink in until about round 2 of ordering. It is a mix of paper sheet with selections and mobile app for other things. While I appreciated the technology, it felt odd to order by hand and then order on your mobile phone for other things. Ambiance This place is loud and full of energy. Concrete floors, concrete walls, big glass windows and metal legged tables and chairs made for a cacophony of sounds. At a few points during our meal, we had to stop talking because we were yelling at each other from across a small table. Value for money There are three options: Option 1 - Lunch x Fish $27.99 per person and everyone at the table must order the same plan. Include limited selection of maki sushi and no specialty rolls or specialty cuts. Option 2 - Signature $39.99 per person and everyone at the table must order the same plan. Include good selection of maki sushi and specialty rolls or specialty cuts. Limits on blue fin tuna and carpaccio options. Option 3 - Omakase $55 per person and everyone at the table must order the same plan. Includes all maki sushi and specialty rolls or specialty cuts. No limits on blue fin tuna and carpaccio options. Includes a chef's choice option (omakase). The order size and quantity were small. The sushi was small. Each order or maki sushi was one piece. You can order a maximum of 20 items at one session or round. Which sounds like a lot, but with more than 2 people, it isn't. Also, you are limited to 90 minutes, which again sounds ample, but service delays and large group ordering, you can eat up that time quickly. read more

Great option for AYCE! What I appreciate about this place is the quality of the fish and how little rice they use for the nigiri/sushi. IMO, the rice to fish ratio is perfect and not overly filling. Because of this, I can let my stomach have room for appetizers (tempura, skewers, etc), rolls, and even ramen and udon! I've been here 3 times and it can get super busy depending on the time and day. If it does seem busy, I'd highly recommend ordering a few appetizers early on in case the sushi does take a while to make. Fyi: if you select the AYCE option, they will offer two kinds of menu (one for nigiri and an online menu for appetizers, sushi, ramen/udon, and drinks). read more

Excellent service from Sean, and the team. Our favorite spot for high quality ACE sushi! Their Ramen is also our favorite! Its super savory without being overly rich that makes u sick like some Ramen places. Overall, we love this place! Wish it was closer so we dont have to drive soo far! read more

AYCE sushi was pretty good for AYCE. fish is pretty fresh. Lots of options and the presentation was really nice. Everything came out pretty quickly and even though the restaurant was busy, we were able to get the waitress's attention quickly. Waited about 10 mins to get seated on a Sunday for lunch. read more

They are always quite busy. You show up and you sign in on their guest registry and they will notify you when your table is ready. They do not take reservations.

their reservation isn't accurate, you can put yourself online first, and then, on Saturday I had to wait for an hour, luckily the main street in Brea seems to be colorful and worthy taking a stroke down the Birch street
