I really regret having to leave this review, but my experience with Wynn Optics was incredibly disappointing and costly. I paid $698 (upfront) for a pair of prescription glasses, and I now have absolutely nothing to show for it, not even the frames I paid for. The first pair was made with the wrong prescription. They remade them, but the second pair was still incorrect. I could not see clearly with either. Wynn Optics kept both pairs. Despite never receiving a usable product, they have refused to refund my money. Their non-refundable policy should not apply when they fail to deliver a working item. I opened a dispute with my credit card company, but Wynn Optics contested it, and the case was closed. I am now out almost $700, with no glasses, no frames, and no resolution. They may seem nice at first, but this kind of business practice is unethical. I strongly caution anyone considering this provider. read more

I'm writing this review bc I feel like I was bamboozled when I bought 2 pairs of glasses. I have insurance and thought that I was using my insurance on both pairs of glasses. I found out that they didn't use my insurance on 1 of the glasses. I'M SOOOO MAD!! I spent more money than I had to. I'm not going back to this place. Worst Experience EVER. Obviously those Latin female workers don't know what they are doing. Whatever you ask, you get answers with disgustingly negative face expressions and attitudes. They don't know if the customer is getting an exam for eye glasses or contact lenses, also doesn't know if they have to write down "toric" or not, which eventually makes your contact lense order getting denied. The owner or manager should spend more time to train them, or spend more money to hire educated people in service jobs. Seriously, zero business manner.... Only positive thing was the doctor (Chen). This place is awesome. I've been going here for a few years, and the level of service and care is fantastic, without fail. Friendly staff, excellent exam and great glasses. I travel a couple of subway stops from where I live to this store because of the service, the fact that it's a small business and not a chain, and it's a black-owned business. I just got my first pair of progressives (distance/computer/reading) and they required no adjustment whatsoever. Everyone on premises wears masks, frames are wiped before you try them on and after, and I felt super-safe pandemic wise. read more

Absolutely LOVE my frames as well as the service I recieved here! I have needed glasses for about 6 months, but I have been putting it off. I started my second semester of graduate school a few weeks ago which means LOTS of reading, and decided to do something about my vision problem. I chose Wynn Optics because they take my insurance and are a 5 minute walk from my apartment. There were a few bumps with my insurance in the beginning since I have a non-traditional plan, and all 3 staff members who helped me out were lovely and happy to talk to my insurance company on the phone to sort it all out. For the exam, I met with optometrist Dr. Campbell. I told her this was my first time getting fitted for glasses, and she gave a very thorough exam, explaining why she was doing each test & warning me not to rub my eyes after putting certain drops in them. When I picked the frames, I was a little nervous because this storefront advertises "prada" "tom ford" and many other brands I cannot afford. I told the staff that, and also showed them a picture of a celebrity who has a similar face structure to me and was wearing glasses I liked. They found me a pair of frames just like hers for $90! The brand is gotham eyewear and they are super cute, comfortable, and durable. The staff also offered "anti glare" lenses. At first I thought they were trying to sell me on expensive stuff I dont need, but they explained how this type of lens helps people who are on the computer often (thanks grad school). They even let me try on a pair of glasses there with the anti glare lens, and I looked at my phone screen to see how much it would help with reading a screen. Thank you SO much, Wynn Optics! As a new glasses owner, the quality of the exam and customer service was appreciated! read more

I do not recommend this place at all. I went here because Benjamin Optics a few blocks from the street was closed and I needed contacts asap. But this place is not even remotely equipped to provide prescriptions for contact lenses. The doctor did not dilate my eyes, didn't even take a close look at my eyes to check for issues. In addition, she pretty much did trial and error to see what my eye prescription was. She gave me a sample of contact lenses and told me to revisit to see if that felt right. And this happened 4 times. They took my money before they even tested so I was stuck with them and didn't get my actual prescription until a month later after the 4 visits. That prescription turned out to be the wrong one after all that hassle as I visited my original (renowned) doctor in Toronto who told me the the contact lenses were not appropriate for my eyes. I DO NOT recommend this place, please do not make the mistake I did. read more

It's great to have a black owned optical place in my neighborhood, but the level of service is horrible just horrible from the door. The only pleasant one there was the optometrist. They have the potential to be a great place, but they hire low level young and unprofessional people. This is based on my three year relationship with this location and Dr. Campbell. . . Seems its time to move on, based on my last and final visit. Again, this is three year relationship scenario. I never made it to the chair after being scheduled for first appointment (not Campbell) and received a call to inform me that the Dr. was not coming in. After re -scheduling for the second appointment and waiting for 45 minutes I left to continue my day. Not sure what happened with the service, its a shame since this location is across the ave from my home. I don't appreciate the hit and miss service any longer it's my time being wasted. This is my experience and I can't recommend the shop/ scheduling, or patient interaction/service. Dr. Campbell was great but the level of professional service extended (twice) was not. Today makes 3 weeks since I had my eyes checked at Wynn Optics and I'm still waiting for my glasses. I've called several times and keep getting the same answer which is we should be getting them soon that is until today the answer I received today was the lab only sent 1of the lens so now we have to wait for them to send the other one and that will take another week. I've never heard of anything so stupid. I asked well is their anyway to expedite this because I'm going away next week. I was told the office manager would have to do that but is out sick and might be back tomorrow. I try to support small neighborhood businesses but this will be the last time I use Wynn Optics. read more

I am not sure what happened to Wynn Optics. I have gone there for a few years and though they were not perfect, they go the job done and the staff was very nice. I've worn glasses since I was six and have had a dozen eye doctors. I loved my last one, but I moved and figured I would try Wynn since they were close. Dr. Campbell was professional while being friendly. When it came time to get the glasses, Arielle helped me pick out some great frames (on sale, too!!!). It was fast and easy. However, I started getting bad headaches and I thought maybe the Rx was wrong in the glasses. It wasn't, rather something else (won't bore with details). Not only did they thoroughly explain what and why it was happening, they ordered some frames to specifically accommodate my needs and did so with a smile. They even gave me some temporary glasses that I could wear that wouldn't cause the headaches while I waited for the new frames. Everyone in the store is cordial and relaxed. It's a great local shop and I would recommend it to anyone. I am giving 4, not 5 only because there are a couple of small things that could be better (the "test glasses" that hold the lenses to ensure that you can see were held together by tape) read more

AN ABSOLUTE MESS. DO NOT GO HERE. I went through hell with this office. Got a contact lens exam and they refused to give me my prescription until I came in for multiple, unusual, and IMHO unnecessary follow-up appointments. I asked the doctor for exactly what I wanted (and have been using for years): focus air optix night-and-day lenses. Since they didn't have them in stock, they gave me a different pair, and told me to come back in two weeks--not to buy the lenses that I wanted, but to get the ones I DIDN'T want examined for fit. Then, they said they could order a pair of the ones I wanted--but I would have to come back to get them, and then come back two weeks later--AGAIN--for a follow-up exam before they would actually just give me the prescription or let me buy the lenses I wanted directly from them! As an aside, I don't have any real eye problems except nearsightedness; no glaucoma, no astigmatism that needs to be corrected...nothing. Just wanted to get an exam and buy the same lenses that have worked for me for years. Eventually I got so fed up that I left, and ended up wearing 30-day contacts for about 9 months (until one of them tore) because I didn't have the money to spare for an additional eye exam. Also, although they wouldn't just give me my prescription (like every other eye doctor I've been going to for 15 years or so), they sure did bill my insurance company right away--rendering me ineligible to get a covered eye exam for another 12 months. This is a terrible set of business practices and I would rather wear my glasses 24/7 than ever set foot in this place again. BTW, I notice that all the negative reviews have been filtered and all that's left is one five-star review. This is my first yelp review--that's how angry I am, almost a year later, that these guys have somehow figured out how to get the negative reviews...well, negated. They are an incompetent office masquerading as a legitimate business. The actual doctor was very nice, though, and I felt he gave me a thorough and accurate exam...it's the business practices that are absolutely preposterous. read more

I received a call saying my glasses were ready and when I went to pick them up they couldnt be found. I spoke to a staff member on Wednesday and was told to leave my number and that she'd find my glasses and call me. Yesterday (Two days later) I finally receive a call stating my glasses still have not been found and if I can come in and pick out another pair of frames. In my opinion this is a total inconvenience and the exact reason why I WILL NOT be returning! However, I do highly recommend Dr. Campbell she has always been great over the course of the 3.5 years I had been a patient here. Unfortunately, due to the staff, their attitudes, and their lack of organzation I will be finding a new place to purchase contacts and glasses. With all that being said I do highly recommend that anyone interested in dealing with Wynn Optica goes to the 141st and lenox location. The sales rep there Frankie made my experience much better. She's very attentive and very organized and she helped turn my negative situation of 119th losing my glasses into a positive one. Thanks Frankie! read more

I'm so happy to have a neighborhood optometrist this good. I've been seeing Dr. Campbell for several years and I couldn't be happier. Ariela is very helpful and knowledgeable about the business side of things. What I really love is that they work with Harlem Renaissance HS giving students real-world experience. They aren't always prompt with follow-up phone calls but I've always found them to be very pleasant and courteous. Keep it up! read more

I give three stars because the frames here seem a bit overpriced and there was not enough of a selection for my taste. I ended up having to settle on frames I wasn't really crazy about, but I eventually convince myself that I really liked them because I had already gotten my eye exam done at Wynn Optics, so. Went in earlier today and got the worse service ever! I used to go to the location on 141st everyone was very nice and professional there the 119th location is not. They do not speak to you in a professional manner I was "helped" by apparently the manager I think her name was Erie or something like that. I came in to fix a problem with my frames and she just snapped them in half and gave me the " I told you they may break before I did it". My problem with that was why would u just not try to fix. them. I feel like she felt like they were already damaged so she didn't care. I paid a lot for my frames then she told me I can pay 65$ to send them to get fixed but not in a professional manner. I explained to her that this was a problem they had already told me can be fixed by the tech I do not believe she was even the technician. I would like to speak to someone from corporate to see what the can do about my glassses that are in 2 pieces. read more

I've been a customer at Wynn for the past three years and could not recommend them higher. I have bought two pairs of glasses, one pair very cheap and one pair designer frames. Both time the glasses came quicker than I expected and were fitted professionally. I snapped the arm off my first pair from them at around three months old. They fixed it the same day at no charge! Dr. Campbell was caring and thorough with my eye exam. The personnel in the store were friendly and knowledgeable. I had a horrible experience at a large retail chain up the street and came here. I believe that Wynn is a very friendly-family business..the most amazing feature is that the coulple who started the business are from Harlem..which makes it a milestone and helps to improve the quality of life among Harlemnites...most businesses in NYC are run and owned and operated by outsiders who come to get rich from our indigenious folks and most of them will not even hire people who are born and raised in the community. I spoke to the general manager Arial requesting some information. when she picked up she was nasty from the start of our conversation. I decided not to let her attitude phase me, but Arial just continue on having a nasty demeanor; as if she's not happy with her job. I asked to speak to the owner Wynn because at that point I was very unhappy talking to her, Arial than tells me he is not available and she does not know when he would be. so I than proceeded to ask for a number or email to reach out to the owner, once again she tells me she does not have that information and that i would have to catch him when i can. To be honest if their was an option to give no stars then that would be my true rating. Customer service is essential and for this to be my first time calling this optical store, i could tell i would never step foot in the door or even recommend anybody for that matter. read more

I didn't wait longer than 20 minutes after my scheduled appointment time. The Dr was very efficient and she made sure that I was comfortable before making my purchase. I also like that the business owners are Harlem bred and African American. We need to better support black businesses. Mr. Wynn is always willing to work with me to find glasses within my budget and to research my insurance benefits so that I am making the least out of pocket payment. Well folks, I must say, YES, I am a fan. As first after breaking the 'stem' on my glasses, I thought that only the stem would be replaced, but to my pleasant surprise I was given a whole new frame. Maybe, I did not hear the lady say that I would get a new frame, to that I apologize profusely. I guess when she asked for the broken piece of the stem, I just figured that the stem is what they were replacing. When I got there, the young lady apologized that I was not satisfied with the service, but again, I am the one that should apologize. Love this place and will get my next pair definitely from them. I always feel like I am in a Dominican hair salon in the BX when I am in the waiting room, their kids are running around and the young lady who gave me my prescription couldn't even pronounce astigmatism. read more

My daughter got her glasses from there and she was happy with the service. Since my daughter had a great experience I decided to go there myself. Service was great. I was told that my contact lenses was going to take about 2-3 weeks to come in and they gave me samples until my prescription came in. That was on May 18th. Three weeks went by after my visit and I didn't hear update regarding my contacts and I asked my daughter to call and get and update and she was told that the order has yet to arrive to wait a few more days. Days turned into weeks and still nothing. I called the first week of July and was placed on hold then they hung up on me. Now I'm furious because I'm leaving the country tomorrow and I still have no contacts! To wait 2 months for contact lenses is ridiculous. I give them 4 stars for taking my insurance in the first place, most places don't. I have been going to Wynn Optics for three years and I have always found everyone to be friendly and helpful. The doctor is nothing short of wonderful, she is knowledgeable, caring and patient. I have chronic allergies that bother my eyes and she has always found a way to address this problem. This past Christmas I got my eyes examined in 30 minutes and my eye glass prescription was filled in 2 days. I can honestly say am very happy to patronize this business. read more

Love, love, love the friendly (Black Woman) Doctor. I like to buy black and buy local whenever possible so I was very pleased when an African American woman walked in for my eye exam. She was so professional and thorough and explained everything clearly and efficiently I immedieately called my boyfriend and mom who both had eye exams coming up and told them to go to Wynn. I paid for my contact lens order immediately, was told they would be ready in less than a week and I walked out in a sample pair which were comfortable and accurate. Boom, I thought it was a total win. NOW Two and a half weeks later, my sample lenses are expired and I am wearing my old, ugly glasses. I have called every day for a week inquiring when my new lenses would be ready and each person I speak to has promised to call me back and I have yet to get an answer. The staff on the phone is rude and inattentive, and if they ask me to spell my name one more time!!!.....ugh. The Doctor is great but everything else about this shop is a mess. read more
