Served Mon-Fri with reservations available via the OpenTable app. Recently, I did a two-night stay at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel. I decided to dine at WSW for all meals and it introduced me to their breakfast and dinner à la carte experiences. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Savory comfort, genuine hospitality, breathtaking morning views. Hungry? "I'm Starving", the portions and price point sure surprised me. 3 eggs, 2 breakfast meats, choice of starch and a short stack had me content beyond reason. These pancakes aren't premade for quick serving or, so large in size the quality of taste and texture diminishes. They're fluffy, sweet, pillowy with an airy interior, caramelized exterior. Enjoy an order of their hearty + comforting Housemade Corned Beef Hash, where each component melds perfectly together. The eggs are opulent in color and served with your choice of starch. This is my favorite. Their Belgium Waffle is light and delicate, deep subtly butteriness and balanced sweetness. Garnished with blueberries and whipped butter. Simple yet prepared with care. On Saturdays and Sundays, a $25 breakfast buffet with an omelet station is offered. For a $35 upcharge after 8am enjoy steamed snow crab, carved Prime Rib and bottomless mimosas. A champagne brunch experience I've done many times. As WSW turns into a new dining concept, I hope breakfast remains unchanged. Food, service, ambiance, value, convenience. I currently rate it as the best breakfast spot in East Hawai'i. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Dinner. "Sizzling 16oz Ribeye", juicy and tender. Intense sizzle, the flavors were so on-point, the side sauce I ordered wasn't necessary. The quick sear rendered a perfect medium and the caramelized onions were so delicious, I ate them as a no-onion person. Served with garlic mashed potatoes, request a a baked potato upgrade. The Misoyaki Butterfish, moist with a caramelized glaze and rich umami flavor. I would recommend checking the texture of your rice though. Tinono appetizer, amazing flavor and texture profile. A must along with the creamy Lobster Mac 'n Cheese. This is the only restaurant on the East Side that offers a salad bar with dinner. For $10 with any entrée, four offerings plus two outstanding soup selections. The most hearty and delicious Clam Chowder I've had in a while, it deserves a spot on their new menu. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Weekend dinner, holiday and brunch buffets, this is what this location is known for since I was a kid. Even though the lavish offerings and prices have changed over time, the same charm of dining here still remains. I usually only come for two items, the rest is secondary. Snow Crab and Prime Rib. If both are prepared well, I'm satisfied. But there's times the prime rib is inconsistent in-flavor and texture. Yet, I always leave satisfied since everything else usually balances things out. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ I feel a sense of belonging, the guest service at WSW makes me feel valued. From entry at the host stand, to the front team, to the managers. I don't feel like I'm just another transaction, but appreciated as a local resident and return customer. Live action stations (omelet/carving), the kitchen team has moments where their level of service isn't consistent with those in the front. It should add to the overall dining experience, be a part of the "show". There's a select few, seniors of the front team who create a meaningful connection each time. Came here for a birthday dinner and it was such a great experience! I do wish we had come during the day because from where we were seated, there was a gorgeous ocean view. To start, we ordered the poke and the bone marrow. The bone marrow was incredibly flavorful and practically melted in your mouth, and the poke was super fresh. For our entrees, we had the misoyaki butterfish and the prime rib--both were absolutely amazing. To finish the night, we shared the brownie and the mango sherbet, which was the perfect sweet ending to a great meal. WSW was our fancy dinner night in an area that is not known for fancy dinners. This was our dinner stop on the big island in Hilo and although the restaurant was nice and I enjoyed the view from our table the service and food just did not hit the mark. When we arrived with our reservation, we were quickly ushered to our table right near the window with a great view. I had high hopes but our server for the evening was non-existent. For my entree, I went with the sizzling 16oz ribeye and it was cooked well and had good flavor at a relatively decent price point. For dessert we had the creme brulee and this was a fairly large portion but lacked a bit of flavor for me and the brulee on top was a bit lacking. The restaurant itself was large and well setup and also offered an all you can eat buffet option as well which was nice but the service did not live up to our dining experience. We were here for our anniversary and no reference or mention of the special day was made by the server despite being on our reservation which was a bit disheartening as every other place seemed to at least make mention and make you feel welcomed. Shout out to the gentleman who was cleaning table and was not our server as he was the only one checking on us and offering service or any kind. What a wonderful and leisurely way to enjoy breakfast with a gorgeous view of charming Hilo Bay with the bridge, the coconut trees, and majestic Mauna Kea in background. The huge glass windows afford great views for all in the WSW restaurant in the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel. I had the Avocado toast which came with a salad of fresh greens on the side. It was refreshing and perfect for me since I didn't want anything heavy. Cousin got the Kalua omelette and Aunty got the buttermilk pancakes which came in a stack of 4. Portions were generous. The well rounded menu wasn't huge but had something for everyone. The large dining room was pretty busy at 8:00 on a Sunday so good thing we had reservations! read more

So many different changes to this restaurant happen each year. We hope that they find a vibe that fits what they are trying to achieve to share with Hilo Town. We do need good places to eat at and also take care of visitors that come to our island. Especially the East side of the island. We have hardly to none good places to eat out here. They don't answer the phone and their inbox is full so you can't leave a message. I went to the buffet and the crab legs were old, discolored and bendy and everything lacked flavor like the warabi salad, spicy tofu and kimchi. The soft serve isn't made from fresh milk and you can tell it's the type that they use a powder for and mix with water... they had 3 other dessert options that were unimpressive... brownies, baked strawberry cheesecake and a weird Oreo marshmallow salad??? read more

Business dinner with clients. Seated at nice table with a view towards the bay. Appetizers were good and everyone enjoyed the entrees. Only hiccup occurred during the processing of my credit card. I did not notice that my card had not been returned until the next day back on Oahu. Called in but they did not show it anywhere in the restaurant. Immediately call to cancel my card. Several hours later I received a call from Kahoku saying that they found my card by the processing machine in the back. Kahoku was kind enough to send me a pic of my cut up credit card. My friend and I went to the buffet as a little college graduation gift for ourselves. Overall the prime rib was ok, the meat was tough like it was sitting out all day and constantly getting reheated. The Au jus tasted like nothing. The crab legs were super salty (even without butter) and overcooked so there was a lot of shrinkage and it was hard to get out. The butter tasted like popcorn butter and the garlic butter tasted like the kind you put on prepackaged garlic bread. I also tasted the laulau and it was like it wasn't seasoned at all! I was honestly disappointed because I went a couple years ago for dinner and I remember their food was so good! I think it was nice for the experience but I wouldn't go back. I would rather spend more money for better quality food and it sucks that this is the only buffet like this in Hilo. read more

Probably the most average steakhouse I've ever been to. Not bad per say but definitely not good either. We ordered the prime rib all you can eat for 2. Waited an hour for our food to arrive which while I get this is a Steakhouse, an hour is a tad bit excessive. First plate of prime rib steak was a bit dry but the end cut my brother had was actually quite nice. Tasted more like a ribeye but a nicely cooked one. Note we didn't ask for the end cut so it was a good strock of luck I guess. The refills were better as you could tell the kitchen was not as backlogged since they came faster and were juicier and more tender pieces. Steamed veggies on the side were pretty average. Mashed potatoes were atrocious however, extremely dry and totally over salted. Definitely not high end at all and tastes like microwave food. The au jus they provided with the steak was alright, very watery but decent flavor. They also ran out of their complementary bread service but comped a free dessert after I asked so good marks for that. Overall if you treat this as a buffet experience more than a fine dining steakhouse, you'll leave a lot more satisfied. Service is slow and the food mediocre. We paid 52 pre tip and tax per person for the all you can eat prime rib. Valuewise definitely not bad but the taste was not there if you order a single steak only. For reference House of Prime Rib in San Francisco is 74 for 2 slices of prime rib but the taste is 3x better and they offer a variety of side dishes free. read more

You can tell that this steakhouse used to be fancy back in the day. However, in 2026, it could use some major updating. The food is OK. It's edible and tasty but it's definitely not fine dining as it markets itself. The service is decent but not top-notch. My favorite part of this restaurant is the ambiance. If you can be seated near the water- the views are unmatched. The dining room feels somewhat like a cafeteria that's trying to be fancy in the 80s. read more

We visited this restaurant while in Hilo, as it was in our hotel! There wasn't a lot of people in the restaurant, but we got a table right away and the service and food was great! They have a salad bar which I didn't take advantage of but my partner did, and they had soups as well. Our server was very attentive and helped us with any questions regarding drinks and the menu. It was a large restaurant and very quiet! Wish they got more attention, they deserve it! But we did get a cool window seat which had a great view! read more

The other items on the buffet were lackluster at best and even the desert table failed to impress my twelve year old. I read reviews before going that suggested this was the most popular steakhouse in Hilo. It didn't live up to a "decent" steakhouse. I got the Ribeye and Salad Bar. When I got to the salad bar, the lettuce at the bottom of the pan was frozen to the pan, there were only two dressings to choose from, and very few topping selections. The Clam Chowder with the Salad Bar was good, and was the highlight of the salad bar. I ordered my steak Medium Rare. It came Medium Well. When I brought it up to my server, she asked if I had "checked the center." I shouldn't have to check the center to see if there's any pink anywhere - you're a steakhouse, act like it. They remade my steak and the second one was cooked well and delicious. Had it just been an overcooked steak, I could have overlooked that as "mistakes happen. But, I give them one star because so many little things added up to a poor experience. Service was sloppy - silverware haphazardly placed on the table, server spoke too quietly to understand much of what was said, lack of understanding of gluten sensitivity for my companion, poor response to a clearly overcooked steak. I was expecting to get nice steak from regular menu but I found no longer offering regular menu and only "Buffet" now. Previously, served Buffet was only Friday and Saturday. So that's kind'a disappointing.... Well, I have no choice. I had bad experiences for Crab regs last time and pretty scare to get another issue. All buffet food menu was almost same as a year ago. Cold section and hot section, Snow crab and Roast Beef. Sad thing wasn't Ribeye. Something different parts which Top sirloin or Top round... anyway, meat was tough hard and chewy and no flavor. Too sad, even though the sign says it's a "Steak House" and the guy who cut the meat has the bad attitude. Snow crab was pretty good much better than before but some parts were very salty... Beef stew and some other dish was salty as well.... Kalua Pork and Chicken long rice no one seemed to be eating.... Will the leftovers be reuse next day ? I just curious.... Dessert bar is okay. It would be happy have fresh fruits. Service is decent. Can't complain. So, overall it was a disappointing resultas as it was almost completely unrelated as previous one. The food was honestly really really over salted. We paid almost $300 for this buffet and we only went once. Very few options, not good food, not that great of service, and very expensive. Aloha, when in Hilo WSW is a great place to see the ocean while having a drink or dinner. Great staff, great pupus, great dinners and nice salad bar. Delicious onion soup and fresh greens in salad bar. The tinono was an awesome Pupu. I had the miso butterfish, really ono. Hubby had the huge pork chop also delicious. We had great and wonderful service!!! And I had one of the best Bloody Marys . They know how to dress it up . We had made reservations for the standard breakfast but when we arrived the Hilo WSW had stated they only had three breakfast items so we ended up buffet because we were already there . That shouldn't happen if your website is telling us what is included in the standard breakfast . And the website needs to be updated. The menu included red velvet pancakes and the manager said that has been discontinued years ago. Why isn't the menu updated on their website? But the buffet for 35.00 was not what we expected. Example. (The French toast and pancakes was hard, and the eggs Benedict muffin was hard as a rock we couldn't even cut it) . We enjoyed the food since it was snow crab, shrimp,poke , salmon and other great dishes. The staff was great and greeted us at the door when we checked in. Maria was very attentive and check on us regularly. It's like she read our minds on when we wanted more drinks or refills too. When I booked the reservation I was also asked if this was for some occasion. It was my daughter's birthday dinner we were celebrating. Maria came by the table with a ice cream cake for my daughter with a candle that she lit at the table. We were also place at a table with a nice view of the ocean overlooking Moku'Ola. Sorry to give this such a poor review but the food was tasteless and horrible. I will not waste my dime again on dining there. The buffet was not worth a penny. Almost everything except the broccoli crab salad & white crab poke was not good. Oh and the pumpkin crunch dessert was okay but that is absolutely it! What a shame! Service though was fabulous. We ate here one night as we were staying in the hotel. They have probably 50 ish tables but only 6 were filled when we visited. They give you a $10 off discount for staying in the hotel. We did the lobster tail and prime rib. Both were alright. Not much seasoning to either but you do get butter and horseradish. The presentation is beautiful. They excel in making their food look appetizing. Our waitress was very friendly and great at her job. They ended up comping our meal because we booked through Costco and it was a part of their specials so we were pretty stoked about that. However, if I did pay the almost $200 tab, I would've been disappointed in the quality. It was convenient eating here but I hope they consider seasoning the food more. read more

Beautiful views, however, for a restaurant situated in the main lobby overlooking Moku Ola and Hilo Bay, you would think the food and service would be exceptional. We had a huge party of thirteen, made our reservation in advance and were excited to finally try this restaurant. Once we arrived, they did not have our tables ready, so we had to wait an additional 10 minutes for them to get this ready. We finally sat and was ready to order because we sat long enough waiting earlier to decide what we wanted to try. By the time they got the drinks (water and whatever else we wanted to drink) it was almost a half an hour into our reservation. We ordered and again waited...and waited...and waited. An hour later, we finally got all of our food. The waitress kept apologizing for the wait and blaming it on staffing issues in the kitchen. When they finally brought the food, half of the food was cold from it sitting and was a little dry. For the prices they charged, I expected to have an amazing steak! I didn't. It was okay. By the time they cleared the plates, one of my nieces fell asleep on the table and we were now close to three hours at the restaurant and have not received dessert. When we got our bill, we paid the full price of over $1300!!! I couldn't believe it! Never again I told myself. I could've hire a private chef and/or cooked it myself and paid less! I'm not complaining about the price (because we did order items like the rib eye and tomahawk), but more about the quality. Even the service was 3 star. If I took that long to get an order out, I would've ask the restaurant manager to comp at least dessert for the inconvenience. The waitress was pleasant, but obviously not trained for what you would consider a high class ambiance. It starts from the top. Hilo Hawaiian steak house and breakfast restaurant. Decided to have breakfast there instead of the free continental breakfast next door from the restaurant, instead of the free continental breakfast if you eat in the restaurant they discount $5.00 per person up to 2 guest per room. The view and waiter service is only in the restaurant side not the continental breakfast side. I had the eggs easy over with Portuguese sausage and rice it also came with wheat or white toast. My wife had the Hash Brown with bacon and scrambled eggs and wheat toast. It was much more relaxing and enjoyable in the restaurant. read more

What a disappointment. The venue itself was nice, pretty views of the bay. We had a choice of buffet for $60 or bar so we chose the bar. The menu was very limited. Ordered the ribeye which came with mushroom gravy but no sides and prime rib which came on a plain bun with fries. Each meal was $25. The prime rib was served on a white bread bun you could get at the grocery store and the fries were frozen bag quality. Both meals were way over salted and just awful. When we went to pay the bill we were hurried along by the waitress as she told us two ladies were waiting for our table. We hadn't even finished our drinks! All in all it was a terrible experience. The restaurant is beautiful with a lovely view over the water. Service is very helpful with recommendations and the hosts are great to converse with. Our food was served to us very quickly. We made a reservation for Valentine's Day and I ordered the seafood entree. The food was flavorful but the salmon was a little dry. I can't speak for any of the other menu items. Went here for our 50th anniversary. It was a wonderful time. First rate Service. Filet was very good, They are limited in what they can do with the space they have available, but it was done well . Was it. Michelin 5 star? Probably not, but it was very good. As expensive as the overheads are nowadays, I don't think Hilo can get a much better restaurant for the population size. We made a reservation because we were told the buffet would have lau lau, kalua pig, prime rib, and pastele. When we arrived and started making our plates, none of those items, except the prime rib were actually there. Instead, the buffet only had rice, mashed potatoes, shrimp scampi, clams, turkey with gravy, Asian chicken, panko breaded ahi, crab, prime rib, soups, and the usual cold items like salad and poke. I tried everything they offered, and honestly the only things worth eating were the poke and the snow crab. The prime rib was extremely dry and tough, and it tasted like it had been sitting out for way too long. For a $70 buffet, this was disappointing! especially compared to other buffets I've been to. This was by far the worst experience. Even the dessert table was a letdown. The only decent dessert was the haupia. The crab legs shell were soft and hard to peel, prime rib was very tough and mostly raw, chicken was also tough and didn't have a large selection of salad.
