She did an absolutely amazing job and I would strongly recommend Barclay Papers to any bride or groom. Pace was patient and responsive as I worked with her remotely from Washington, D.C., mostly by email, and she went out of her way to make the wedding stationery special and stylish--each item was modern but classic, and took what I'd had in mind and made it so much better looking than I could even have envisioned. Each item was distinct, with different levels of formality (a cute postcard for the farewell brunch; thank-you notes with our monogram that can be used for wedding or any other occasion; elegant wedding invitations and RSVPs), but all perfectly coordinated. Pace also went out of her way to find and match the font from the logo of the winery where we were engaged; she had good advice on questions of etiquette (invitation wording, etc.) and quantities (fewer programs than I would've ordered--and she was right!); when the colors of the first samples weren't quite right, she tried other printers until she found one that could do the dark-background cards true to color; she provided a digital image of the invitations to upload to glosite.com so that our e-invites (for our more tech-savvy guests) would match the paper ones exactly; and she worked with me to select invitation type, paper stock, etc. to keep the costs reasonable. I was absolutely thrilled with the process of designing my wedding papers with Barclay Papers and with the timeless and stylish results.

What an excellent little shop! Much more intimate and less distracting than going to Joann's or another big box store. The little place was loaded with all sorts of great prints that I certainly haven't seen elsewhere. I quickly loaded up my hand with 14 different fat quarters, dreaming of projects that one day may or may not come into fruition. Such is the way! What I especially liked was the old school furniture tucked away in places throughout the store. I saw a couple of old Singers with their lovely polished wood, and they made excellent use of old cubbies for letter sorting. I'm a mild antique buff (rubbed off on me from my dad and his mother) and appreciate when something old finds a new home and use. The cubbies were filled with 4x6 postcards of fun quilts you could try, with the design on the glossy front and the instructions on the back. I believe these were free of charge, to help give customers inspiration. Too neat! There was an ample selection of colors as well as more exciting fabrics. Many floral designs and stately or muted tones of browns. Definitely good for finding a fabric to coordinate with but not detract from your main piece. I picked up a couple of plaids, which are always useful. There was a seasonal section (currently loaded with Christmas fabrics) that I imagine likely rotates throughout the year. There was a sale section for bolts that were running low, and cheapo $5 baggies of various fabrics that mix well. There was a section with felt and a small amount of flannel. Lots and lots and lots of bagged/boxed sets to choose from that have everything you need for a particular design (not my cup of tea-- designing my own piecing is highly satisfying to me). You'll also find other helpful items like thread, buttons, cutters, and the like. A space in the back with a large table for various lessons/classes (looked like there was one going on while we were browsing, but I didn't want to disturb them). Still, I thought it would be a good idea to get my bearings in case we ever need to utilize the services. Plus, I wanted to see all of the many innovative features I'd heard about, from eco-friendly construction to an amazing gallery of sculpture and other artwork. Wow! This place is the most gorgeous, welcoming hospital I've ever seen. If you must be in the terrible position of having your child under hospital care, there can't be a more inviting one. The environment simply promotes calm & healing: no antiseptic odors or harsh lighting, soothing color palette, and many touches of whimsy to help one forget his/her situation for a while. After strolling through the public spaces and marveling at the many courtyards, fountains, gardens, atriums, playrooms, and art displays, I finally made my way to the gift shop. You know you're almost there when you have found the huge open lobby with the giant chiming Rube Goldberg machine and guitar sculptures. Walk toward the faux tree trunk and you've arrived. Like most hospital gift shops, the Treehouse is staffed by volunteers and all proceeds benefit the charitable work of the facility. Unlike most other hospital gift shops (at least the ones I've seen), the Treehouse has a truly awesome selection of high quality toys and gifts. Understandably, their specialties are toys and games most appropriate for use in quiet, small spaces: books, puzzles, handheld-games, dress-up sets, etc. These are great for travel, too. They also provide a decent selection of boutique-style gift items for grown-ups, cards & stationary, candy, and balloons, as well as a deals & steals table where sale merchandise is marked down by 50% or more. I made off with a cool little reusable shopping bag that collapses into a roll the size of a lipstick, as well as two cool magnetic themed play sets that will make great birthday presents for my soon-to-be 2 year old. If you happen to be in the neighborhood, the Treehouse is a swell place to pick up a special gift for a child. If you happen to be charity-minded, you can feel extra good knowing that your shopping supports a great cause. I put the pics against an etching board as the matte finish felt better on the board and the pics adhered a little better. I tried using actual poster board, however, whenever I use paints and or glitter, depending on the water content of the paint the paper curls. Technically you're not supposed to use etching board outside etching, however, it is a crafters that many people use this for photos. They are $$ at Michael's but I was able to score a decent number with shipping for a reasonable price.

The approach I originally had in mind wasn't compatible with their setup, so I was simply trying to brainstorm a workable alternative. To my surprise, Jesse at the front counter told me I was being rude. I'm genuinely unsure how it came across that way, as I remained calm throughout, didn't raise my voice, and wasn't upset--just asking a lot of questions, attempting to find a solution. Unfortunately, based on that experience, I wouldn't recommend using this business.
