Here's the tl;dr version:…read more -- Cool local art for purchase -- Supplies for urban artists (or amateurs who are headed over to the Hope Gallery) -- Unique souvenirs for Austin visitors -- #ATXFreeArtFriday Co-founded by a UTexas alumna Molly Maroney and another local artist known as Mouf in 2013, SprATX is a street art startup artist collective, gallery, & supply store, with this brick & mortar location opening in January 2014. Inside, you'll find spray paint, paint markers, stickers, prints, and cool urban apparel for purchase, all of which features the work of our local Austin street artists and often has a motivational, "Keep Austin Weird," or "Austin Pride" kind of message. Chances are that if you have noticed any impressive new mural or live street art event around town (such as at the X Games, ACL Fest, SXSW, FunFunFun Fest, East Austin Studio Tour, or the Long Center lawn) over the past 4 years, SprATX was involved. Their artists have also done work for most of the Alamo Drafthouse locations and numerous corporate clients around the city. As if that weren't cool enough, SprATX is also the creator of #ATXFreeArtFriday https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/atxfreeartfriday/, a weekly art scavenger hunt in which artists of all levels (from hobbiests to professionals) hide their work (stickers, canvases, screenprints, sculptures, textiles, anything goes) throughout the city. The artist posts clues on Instagram and waits for a lucky treasure hunter to find the stash. The finders post their "I found it!" reactions online, tag the artist and #ATXFreeArtFriday, and the cycle continues. Follow @atxfaf_official and the hashtag on Instagram if you want to join the game. The diverse 30+ member collective includes amazing local street scene artists like ZUZU, Roshi K, G52, Truth, Lucas Aoki, and Drib, whose works you've likely viewed all over town. The collective also serves as an incubator for talent around the country through their Artist Exchange Program, which pairs artists from Austin and other cities to co-create murals which are then created and revealed in the partner artist's city. I just love supporting a local business that fosters community involvement and puts beauty into the world. Closed on Wednesdays; otherwise open 12:30-7:30p daily.

Living in Kyle I would have to venture San Marcos or South Austin to pick up various supplies or home improvements that I was craving. So, one can surmise my enthusiasm when I saw land being cleared and a "coming soon" sign for Hobby Lobby just 2 miles from my home. Fast forward to Aug of 2023 when the store opened. Walking in a week after the doors were unlocked for the general public, the experience is almost exactly similar to all other Hobby Lobby's; the space wide open yet filled with shelves of knick-knacks, art supplies, nostalgic themed items and many other items. As soon as I walked in, I could feel the warmth from the employees as no less than two ladies greeted me with "welcome to Hobby Lobby, let me know if you need anything." It's warming to my soul to see an establishment make an effort with authentic pleasantries of a bygone age. While my focus was on acrylic paints my curiosity got the best of me so I "moseyed around" checking out products that I might have missed the last time I was in one of their sister facilities. The isles were well stocked, logically laid out and thoughtfully displayed, playing on the casual shoppers innate impulse shopping with "Oh I might need that one day" mentality. Therein lies my personal weakness as I headed back to the front to grab a cart to load up with items, I really didn't need but I could justify in my mind. I could drag the review out but, it's Hobby Lobby and you know what you're getting. Clean and safe stores with all sorts of items, friendly cashiers and a quick checkout experience. Let me repeat that, as the store filled up, cashiers materialized out of no where to work extra registers and keep internal traffic moving. I'll end my review with I've never had a bad experience at any of the stores and this one seemed even better than an already high standard. Stop on by and take some time to relax and walk around a little and enjoy life while shopping.

I love quilting when I have the time. I moved to the area mid-2020 but hadn't managed to stop in…read morehere until today when I brought my mother-in-law along (who's visiting from California). What an excellent little shop! Much more intimate and less distracting than going to Joann's or another big box store. The little place was loaded with all sorts of great prints that I certainly haven't seen elsewhere. I quickly loaded up my hand with 14 different fat quarters, dreaming of projects that one day may or may not come into fruition. Such is the way! What I especially liked was the old school furniture tucked away in places throughout the store. I saw a couple of old Singers with their lovely polished wood, and they made excellent use of old cubbies for letter sorting. I'm a mild antique buff (rubbed off on me from my dad and his mother) and appreciate when something old finds a new home and use. The cubbies were filled with 4x6 postcards of fun quilts you could try, with the design on the glossy front and the instructions on the back. I believe these were free of charge, to help give customers inspiration. Too neat! There was an ample selection of colors as well as more exciting fabrics. Many floral designs and stately or muted tones of browns. Definitely good for finding a fabric to coordinate with but not detract from your main piece. I picked up a couple of plaids, which are always useful. There was a seasonal section (currently loaded with Christmas fabrics) that I imagine likely rotates throughout the year. There was a sale section for bolts that were running low, and cheapo $5 baggies of various fabrics that mix well. There was a section with felt and a small amount of flannel. Lots and lots and lots of bagged/boxed sets to choose from that have everything you need for a particular design (not my cup of tea-- designing my own piecing is highly satisfying to me). You'll also find other helpful items like thread, buttons, cutters, and the like. A space in the back with a large table for various lessons/classes (looked like there was one going on while we were browsing, but I didn't want to disturb them). There is a restroom available for customers as well.

They seem to have a great selection on materials and supplies for sewing. The workers were very…read morehelpful.
