My husband and I met up with one of my Yelp friends visiting Ottawa from Toronto along with his…read morewife and son for dinner at Queen Street Fare. Overall, I liked the look and feel of the food hall. It is a bit on the smaller side with just 7 vendors, but it's still cool. I like that there is a good mix of different types of foods offered there. The vendors are Sen Kitchen (Pan Asian), Green Rebel (soup, sandwiches, and salads), Mercadito (Mexican), Fiazza (pizza), Capitol Burger (burgers and fries), Bar Robo (cafe) and Q Bar (serves alcoholic beverages). They also have a water station where you can help yourself to free water. There is a lot of seating with a mix of large communal tables, some booths/half booths, and smaller tables. Vendors are staggered throughout the space and while the official name of each vendor is in the same uniform font, inside each kiosk each vendor is able to express their own style. So it does look like a collection of unique businesses. I mention this because I was recently at the Time Out Market in Montreal and all the vendors looked exactly the same and they were all next to each other in a big circle. I did not like that layout or aesthetics at all. I do like the layout of Queen Street Fare. I had the Chicken Pad Thai at Sen Kitchen ($12). I thought it was unremarkable. My husband had the Cubano Sandwich at Mercadito ($13), he enjoyed it. I had some of the potatoes that his meal came with and I liked them. They were crispy with nice seasonings. My Yelp friend had a chicken sandwich at Green Rebel. It was huge and he said it was very filling. His wife and son shared a pizza from Fiazza and they seemed to enjoy it. His wife also got a pho broth soup from Sen Kitchen. It appeared to be just broth with bean sprouts, no noodles nor meat. She did not say anything about the broth, so I'm assuming it was unremarkable. I think the food hall as a whole is neat with a chill environment. I think it would benefit from a dessert vendor, like a place that sold gelato or ice cream, or maybe donuts or cakes. Anyway, I'm glad Ottawa has a food hall, even though it's a bit small ;)

Large carnivores poutine excellent but yet again over 20$ with a drink. It would be nice to have a medium size as the small is not enough and the large is to much.

I found the…read moreprice to be a bit more expensive than I would normally pay for a burger meal, but I got a ridiculous amount of food for what I paid, so it's a great value for big eaters. The quality, on the other hand, is not the greatest. I got the Green Monster with avocado, bacon, cheddar cheese, and roasted garlic and chili aioli. The burgers and toppings are fresh, but my bread was stale, and because of the size of the burger, the bread got soggy really fast and it all turned into a sloppy mess. The taste was pretty good but they were heavy on the aioli and I would have preferred the avocado sliced instead of made into a kind of mush. There were a ton of sweet potato fries, more than I would ever need as a side, but they were soggy and overcooked. I asked for a side of chipotle mayo for dipping - if the sweet potato fries were crispy, they would have tasted a lot better together. Overall, cost is higher than fast food but affordable, portion is huge, taste is good, but a pretty messy. Worth it if you're in the mood for a big, greasy, homemade burger!

I had lunch at Fat Rabbit recently and overall it was great…read more Fat Rabbit is one of the vendors at the food court in The Rideau Centre, but they have their own seating area. It's a build your own bowl sort of place. You pick your base, 2 sides, and a protein. The price depends on your protein choice. Many of the options have an Indian element to them. I got the Chicken 65 as my protein ($12) and Coconut Ginger Rice as my base. For my sides I got the Greek Salad and the Vegan Kale Salad. You also get to add a "crunchy" option at the end, and I chose walnuts. The Chicken 65 was tasty and full of flavour, but not spicy at all. The Coconut Ginger Rice was good, I could really taste the coconut milk and ginger. It's a mix of different types of long grain rice, and it was soft and fluffy. Both the Greek Salad and the Vegan Kale Salad were made of fresh ingredients (no wilted greens), but they tasted rather unremarkable to me. The Greek salad was mostly romaine lettuce and cucumbers. I got 1 olive and some feta crumbs. Perhaps the other sides would have been more interesting. If you get your food to go, it's in a plastic takeout container that's sectioned into 3 areas (a larger one for your base and protein, and 2 smaller ones, one for each side). If you get your food to eat there, it's in a bowl and everything is put together in the bowl. I'm not sure if their choices change or are constant, but the day I went there were only 3 bases to choose from: the Coconut Ginger Rice that I got, Garlic Rice Noodles (which to me looked really dry and sad), and mixed greens. Their sides were more numerous and included potatoes, quinoa salad, chickpea salad, rice salad, several leafy greens salad (two of which I chose), hummus and raita. Their protein choices were Chicken 65, tandoori chicken, butter chicken, steak fajitas, fish, and the vegetarian options were a tofu curry or a cauliflower stir fry. You can add on extras like half an avocado for $1.95. There's a lot of variety, which I like. Staff were nice enough. The place is cashless, so it debit or credit only. I think Fat Rabbit is a great addition to the Rideau Centre food court.

What deters me from coming here again is the price and the portion size. A bowl and a drink together costs around $15 (tax excluded), and the size of the bowl isn't large enough to justify the price. It's a hard life being on a diet.
