The perfect area and the perfect place. I come here whenever I get the chance. Amazing assortment of delicious food always.

Tucked away in the heart of the beautiful New Edinburgh, union Street cafe is a super cute and cosy café. This was such an amazing find because everything about this cafe was just so lovely and welcoming. Their vegan roasted veggie and pesto sandwich is amazing! I have never had a sweet potato and beet sandwich, have never considered using these as a sandwich filling but oh my gosh, it all just works like really, really well!! Sandwiched between two slices of sourdough bread, the sweet potatoes and beets are literally the "meat" of the sandwich, while the pesto and arugula helps bring in a ton of flavor. With a side of a really frothy almond milk cappuccino, it was a perfect pairing. What I really love their use of floral plates and cups, which was a plus point to the already lovely ambience of the cafe. Their menu is limited and everything is vegetarian with vegan options too. They also have a large selection of freshly baked home made cookies and desserts which I didn't get to try this time. The staff and owner were very friendly, and it was like everyone who walked in knew each other and the owner too! No wonder it is so frequented by locals. This cosy cafe is also perfect if you want a quick bite or to get some work done. But I must say, it is still quite a small place so I'd definitely recommend coming here on a weekday!

This cute little French neighborhood cafe serves up tasty treats and hot drinks along with a quaint and charming ambiance. It's located just a few blocks away from Rideau Hall. It's entirely surrounded by residential houses - certainly not a commercial area. In fact, it's easy to miss unless you know where you're going. Once you find it and walk inside, you'll be greeted by a friendly shopkeeper and a cozy atmosphere. There are only a few tables, so it's certainly not a place for big groups. But it's a great place to come with a book or with a friend and lounge for a while. They serve various pastries, sandwiches, coffees, and other hot drinks. I came for breakfast, so I got the pain au chocolat (delicious and dense) and a hot chocolate. I had a lovely time and would happily go back. I get the feeling it mostly serves locals from the neighborhood. But if you're in the area, definitely stop by to warm up and unwind a little.

I loved going here while I was on my vacation in Ottawa! I went a couple of years ago and I'm still thinking about how delicious my croissant and hot chocolate were.

Great little wholesome cafe that provides loving and heart warming food to all who visit. Likewise the greatest coffee I've ever had, lattes are surely made with love, and incredibly delicious soups. This is a vegetarian cafe that provides some selection of vegan foods. On their menu they have soups, breakfast and lunch sandwiches, large cookies, croissants, muffins, a selection of bec's cola (in the bottle), coconut water, perrier, and lots of other goodies. They provide both indoor and outdoor seating but is limited to about 16 chairs which can fill up very fast around lunch time. They have beautiful flooring and bamboo wood counters. Towards the back of the cafe there is an entrance to Shunnya which is a yoga studio connected to the back of the cafe in the separate area with beautiful hardwood flooring and a nice ceiling. The building itself is over 100 years old and had been built before Canada had actually been registered as a country, there is a lot of history to the building and stories revolving around previous businesses that had existed prior to the cafe.

I was charmed! Maybe because the day was outstandingly beautiful. Or maybe because I was feeling a surge of nostalgia stepping foot in my childhood neighbourhood. Regardless of my euphoric mood of the moment, my little lunch in this quaint café was simply delightful. The offerings are simple: sandwiches, home baked goodies, soup, salads and coffee bar... all made in house and all very attractive! The dishes may look simple but don't be fooled, the flavours are complex and perfectly well balanced. I enjoyed (and devoured) a tomato-fresh mozza-pesto panini that was far from humdrum!! Heated just enough to soften the cheese without turning everything else to mush. I paired it with a lovely red lentil and curry soup that was more than satisfying. I couldn't resist a monster Lindt chocolate cookie (like everyone else in line) but I was too full from my copious lunch to enjoy more than a bite. Guess I'll have a delish afternoon snack to look forward to. The café is tiny but expands outside during the summer season. The patio is just as inviting as the inside and it feels like a little secret garden. There is also a street view sitting area for those who like to people watch. It truly is a little gem.

I've visited this recently opened cafe in my neighbourhood three times so far. The empanadas are delicious, I've also had the avocado toast on the home made sourdough and a "pizetta"(?). All items were fresh and tasty. The owner is fully hands on making everything but the empanadas and macarons in-house. Atmosphere is relaxed and there is a choice of seating inside or on the street or in the garden. Full range of espresso drinks and brewed coffee. I'll be back.

Golden (turmeric) latte, coffee, chocolate chip cookie and a pear-almond tart... incredible!

Overall: A // 5 stars…read more There's no denying that this cafe is all about the aesthetics, and that's great because the eyes eat first and that shouldn't be by any means neglected. I ordered the Passionfruit Latte, which was an intriguing blend of tropical notes that was actually tasted through the strength of the espresso. I liked that even though the drink was simple, the aesthetic was not neglected from the dried citrus garnish to the perfect gradient of the cup. I really enjoyed all the floral decor in the cafe to help beautify it as well. Their brunch menu is massive and full of interesting items that I wish I had more stomach space to try; definitely in a future return! It's a cafe and a flower shop, with flowers everywhere and everything is pink. Very Instagrammable decor. I was served by the loveliest barista. He said it was his 4th day on the job (I was there mid/late December 2023). He made me the tastiest Peaches and Cream Fog (not on the menu, but should be, lol). They use Sloan Teas and the Peaches and Cream flavour is peachy and creamy with a subtle hint of floral. It wasn't too sweet and I loved it. Their croissants are flakey and buttery. Their carrot cake is good too, although the icing is too sweet for my liking. Really cute cafe! Street parking or paid parking lot parking only, which is the norm for places in the Byward Market. I found the decaf Americano had too sour an aftertaste for me, but the orange chocolate chip cookie was good. The Long Version: I've heard of the Ottawa Bike Cafe and have been meaning to try it for some time now and have finally gotten around to it. My husband and I were on one of our "food and drink weekend adventures" where we go to a bunch of places that are new-to-us and get a little something to share at each place. Like a food crawl, lol. Anyway the Ottawa Bike Cafe was one of our stops. We got a medium decaf Americano ($3.70) and an Orange Chocolate Chip Cookie ($4). My husband liked the coffee and he rated it 4/5. He's more of a coffee connoisseur than I am, so his assessment on coffee is likely more trustworthy than mine, lol. I found the coffee bitter with too much of a sour aftertaste, but I'm one of those people who like flavoured syrup in my coffee (whereas my husband thinks flavoured coffee is gross and drinks his coffee black. We got the coffee black by the way). I enjoyed the Orange Chocolate Chip Cookie, although I only had a few small bites as the hubby ate most of it, haha. I liked that the orange flavour was noticeable. It was a nice twist on the traditional chocolate chip cookie. It was a bit too buttery for my preference and a tad too crumbly, but otherwise a pretty good cookie. Service was pleasant. The place was packed. Decor and ambiance I would describe as hipster cool. If you like popular places that are bustling, this is the place to be. I personally like quieter places with fewer people (although sadly this usually means that places I like don't always stick around). Our visit was in March. I imagine that this place is even busier in the summer. It's on the stretch of Sparks Street that is pedestrian only, so great for people watching if you sit by the window or on the patio during the warmer months when they have outdoor seating. Street parking only. Review #54 (2026)
