What an awesome little cafe. Very artsy and bohemian. They display art by local artists and the decor is very eclectic. It's in a converted old house, so there are so many rooms and nooks and crannies, lol. They have a small patio out front and a larger patio on the side. I imagine people like Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell in their early years hanging out in places like the Art House, to give you an idea of the ambiance ;) I grabbed a breakfast sandwich and a lunch wrap to go. The Southwest Chicken Wrap ($9.85) was really tasty. It had pieces of chicken, rice, black beans, cheese, and corn (which I picked out, lol). It had a bit of a spicy kick, but I'd still consider it mild (or at most on the milder side of medium). The breakfast sandwich was an English muffin, cheese, egg and bacon. I like that it was real cheese and not like a processed Kraft Singles kind of cheese. Very tasty. Staff are super chill and friendly. I'll need to come back sometime to hang out. Hmm. How have I missed reviewing this until now? It's a little outside of our typical stomping grounds. We stop by when we do west end things. Coffee and customer service are always great. Always something to look at on the walls. And the music events are often very worthwhile. There's a good selection of treats, and about 8 meal choices. The Southwest wrap stands out as worthwhile. I love the eclectic nature of it. Mishmashed furniture, art, music, and other knic knacs make it very comfortable. read more

This place is so cool! Definitely unique. I stopped by on a late Sunday afternoon/early evening and it was bumpin'. A lot of the places on Somerset were already closed by 5pm, but this spot was open until 9 and had coffees, teas, alcoholic, and non-alcoholic beverages and some snacks. It's an old house turned into a literal art house cafe, so there are different rooms and I believe an upper level that I didn't make it to. It's hard to know where to look because there's so much to look at! When you walk in, head to the right to place your order - there is also a bin at the table to put your dirty dishes into once you're done. I was a little overwhelmed by the drink menu, to be honest, so I told the server I liked bourbon and wanted something warm, and to just make whatever they wanted. He asked me if I wanted caffeine, I said yes but not too strong, the other person making it asked if I liked vanilla, I also said yes, and so they made me a London Fog with vanilla and bourbon. And it was perfect! Exactly what I wanted. Flavour was great, not too strong, well-balanced, well-made, and just pretty. The staff was also super friendly and quick. While the drink was tasty, I stayed longer for the ambiance. It was busy but there were tables, chairs, and couches for people to sit wherever they could find a spot. I was able to grab a comfy chair beside the piano, where someone was playing, and next to someone else who was writing a paper, while others around were just chatting, some deep in conversation about philosophical ideas and others about Instagram. Mixed bag of people, and it was great. The walls are also lined with artwork of all kinds for sale. I just sat there enjoying my beverage, listening to the live piano, admiring the artwork, and people-watching. A cool, neighborhood Cafe with free wifi and good food although they contracted out a lot of their food recently and had not tasted the new menu. I tend to get their brie grilled cheese as a snack or their soup. Don't do a zoom meeting here while eating on the patio. the internet is fine for browsing but I was running late and had not eaten lunch and tried to multi-task. The internet was spotty on the patio and I kept getting cut off when the signal dropped. read more

A nice option in the Covid times, they are open late til 10 and they have a nice covered heated patio with lights on.. I got a hot chocolate which was rich and tasty but not that hot to be honest.. I like my drinks hot! I can't judge for the drinks since I didn't try their coffee and stuff and now with the to go cups all drinks look the same! As far as the ambiance is concerned, nowhere in Ottawa is as good as the Art House Cafe. It is an old house, funky, with multiple rooms and sundry seating. There is artwork all over the place, for sale. There are always interesting things to look at. They also offer figure drawing nights, adding to the impression that they are really committed to art. I love that. The lattes there are a little bitter for my tastes, so I have started going to the Drip House instead, which is a little bit down the street. The Art House also has some pastries for sale, which are fine but nothing to write home about. They offer chocolate chunk cookies with chocolate chunks so big that you only get chocolate in every third bite or so, and then it's too much. (side rant: Why don't people realize that chocolate chips are a superior way to distribute chocolate appropriately in the cookie, so that every bite is perfect? I don't know.) Lovely snack, coffee or drink spot with art all over the walls. The decor is cute and inviting. Since it is in an old house, it feels like sitting in someone's living room. After dinner in Chinatown, my friends and I were looking for a place to grab a drink and we stumbled upon this place. They had $5 pints and $6 glasses of house wines. We decided to check it out. It's the perfect place to sit and get some studying done, since it's mostly quiet, spacious, and there are plenty of wall outlets to plug in chargers. It may be a cliché to say, but this place is a hidden gem. Located inside a former Victorian house, the Art House Café is this kind of unique place with a cozy ambiance. The coffee served here is made with the excellent Happy Goat beans. Sandwiches are excellent and prices vary from 7 to 12$ each. Staff are friendly. During daytime, the place is really quiet and perfect to work/read/study or just chill with a friend. At night, the place has live music, mostly Jazz concert from local bands. Take so time to walk the different room and watch the art from local artists. It is worth it. read more

Such a charming place. The atmosphere is just prefect if you want a nice spot to drink coffee or do some sketching. I absolutely love it!! The only thing is if you're sitting outside there can be a lot of noise from the cars (buses, ambulances, etc) and people hollering. It is very close to downtown after all. The Art House is quite seriously my favourite place in Ottawa. If you are a student and need a place to study late night this is your place to go. Vibes are immaculate. I've been at all times of the day and every time I am never disappointed. Live music nights are incredible, 5$ beers, great non-alcoholic drinks. One stop we made on our trip to Ottawa was the Arthouse Cafe. One of the better choices. We met the owner, who encouraged us to try the tiramisu ( we wanted cannoli). Great recommendation! I'm not sure if only one of the staff members have had no customer service experience, or if in the first week of being open, they have decided their business model does not include serving customers. Other than the one female employee who greeted us immediately when we walked in, we were largely ignored. We wanted to give them our money, but they didn't seem to want it, so we left. Best cannoli in Ottawa, they fill it the shell with cannoli cream (imported) right there on the spot! Very nice place to enjoy a cup of tea and some open house music or poetry. Came to this quaint spot after class one day based on the recommendation of a friend. Loved the unique local art on the walls. Really cool spot in a heritage home. Owner and staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. They carry a large variety of local teas, coffees, and treats. Great potential as a space for events, workshops, etc. I might just have to try the bubble tea kombucha next time! Not too shabby for its first week of operations. read more
