This establishment has always played apart of my life here as a Ottawan, and I am a colossal devotee to the fairview malls. Since the closure of the nearby Rideau street McDonalds, there has been fewer suspicious activity around, which is a shame as I enjoyed the entertainment. Whats a nice day at the mall without someone pulling a racoon out of their coat? Regardless, they have a New York Fries, which automatically gives it much more value. Always nicely decorated as well. Beware of the first floor as some report getting asked odd questions by even odder individuals. read more

Rideau Centre this time of year is beautiful! I went on a shopping spree for their Black Friday deals and it didn't disappoint especially the candle sale at Bath & Body Works. You can't go wrong with the location especially if you take public transportation which I do. You can enjoy a fun shopping day at the mall to walk through and do a lot of shopping. It has many great options to choose from; you can find luxury boutiques and cheap bargains in the same place. What happened to all the elevators? I find this mall very hard to navigate and not as accessible to strollers/wheelchairs, ect, as it could be. It was very hard to find an elevator to get between the floors, with very few ramps. The LRT attachment inside the mall did not have an elevator (only escalator or stairs). The fam and I had to go out on Rideau street and go through the main LRT station to get access to an elevator so that we could hop on the train. It's a nice mall if you want to spend some dough, but it's just too much glitz and glam for me, with higher end stores that I tend to shy away from. I do enjoy that they have a Zara and H&M, and Simons in this mall. The food court is good, but I find most malls in Ottawa have repetitive food stalls, meaning you can find the food here at other malls as well. Weekday mornings=more enjoyable shopping experience. Don't come here on the weekend if you don't like crowds. If you are looking for a slower paced mall, I'd recommend Bayshore/ St.Laurent Mall. read more

The shopping mall is located in the heart of Ottawa, one among many other Canadian malls owned by Cadillac Fairview. A trend you'll notice with these CF malls is the mark of consistency and general polish, though each mall loses some of its own individuality and charm. There's an indoor parking lot you can take advantage of if you're driving. It's also the nexus of several bus routes, and it's directly connected to an LRT station below it. It's a fairly large mall and hence has quite a few options for shopping. Fashion (Harry Rosen, Michael Kors, kate spade), food (Laura Secord, Joey), electronics (Apple), and hobby stores (Lego, GameStop) all have some representation here, and there's a good variety to choose from. I think there was an expansion about a decade ago that gave way to Simons and Nordstrom becoming hegemons of the mall. read more

As far as malls go, this one isn't too bad. It's spacious and has lots of variety. They even have employees waiting near the mall directories to help you find what you are looking for (the interactive map is really bad so that's probably why you need employees next to them). I can't believe that I haven't written a review of the Rideau Centre before. I've been to this mall over a hundred times. In fact, it was the first mall in Ottawa I ever went to back when I wasn't even living here. It has undergone a lot of renovations in the last 10 years. It was once a dingy mall and I was so shocked that it was the major downtown mall of our Nation's Capital, but now it is trying to be much swankier. It's a Cadillac-Fairview Mall now, so it has that branding and feel. Renovations are not yet done at the time of the writing of this review, so they are still expanding. It is a much higher-end mall now than it used to be. It has stores like Nordstrom, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, and Coach. There aren't any luxury stores like Louis Vuitton, Hermes or Chanel, but they do have a Cartier, strangely enough. The food court is more "upscale" and has real cutlery and china. The food court is similar to Toronto's Yorkdale food court. I am less embarrassed now to bring visitors to this mall and proclaim that it is Ottawa's downtown mall and it is designated as a "tourist attraction." It's not my favourite mall because rarely will you get any good deals here, but it's a nice mall to walk around in and just to browse. There are 3 levels and it's fairly easy to navigate. Parking here is terrible. You have to pay for parking. The spots are narrow and the parking lot is always crowded. I usually just take the bus here. read more

I haven't been to Rideau Centre for 15 years! It has changed a lot. As with most Cadillac Fairview malls, this one has been updated to have more upscale stores, such as Tiffany's, Nordstrom, and Lacoste. Although one of the Starbucks locations is currently under renovations, you can easily find one in the mall. I like the selection of stores, including Old Navy, Roots, Banana Republic, and Body Shop. You can test out nail polish at The Face Shop and Sephora. The latter supplies nail polish remover if you dislike the nail polish that you've tried out. I find the layout to be a bit confusing, at times. I think it's because I am so used to uniform floors more than anything. The food court is clean and huge. The mall has free wifi, if you need to take a breather and surf. It's a decent mall in the heart of downtown. It was nice to see how much this mall has improved since I last visited. read more

This is not a mall that I go to very often; parking being the number 1 issue. Most of the time I'm taking a bus (greeeaaat - but NOT, if I'm lugging shopping home!) I will usually go to Bayshore if I need the apple store - specifically for the accessibility to free parking. But we had cause to be here over the weekend, and I have to say... the mall has improved quite a bit lately between filling the space in front and the improvements to the Food Court (the lack of interior construction is welcome, I admit). I get it that there has been problems keeping the space occupied where Nordstrom's is now located (thank heaven - an anchor store!) We need a strong example of these across the city, particularly in the Hazeldean Mall. Actually, we need something strong all across the country, so Ottawa is not different on that front. As for the food court, we really liked it for the variety of foods offered, and I have to say, I really liked eating off those plates, even if they were plastic. Much better than eating off paper or styrofoam! And the variety of choices; our lunches there were really good! I don't always want to eat junk food, or fried food or sweets, as tasty as they are. On the other hand, if problems arise with my apple products, I hate that I have to go to either Bayshore or here; I'll choose Bayshore every time. And as for the size of the mall, I prefer St Laurent to this one (mind you, that's a tough comparison: St Laurent is my favourite mall in the whole city! But it's so big you can easily get lost there!) What I do appreciate about the Rideau centre is that it's an OC Transpo hub, although that is tough too, when you land at the north side and have to run through the mall to the south side to continue your ride. I do find that this mall is cleaner inside than it used to be. But Andrea is right: having to run the gauntlet of beggars outside is unappealing. read more

I like the Rideau Centre. It is basically a high-end mall that is attached to the Westin and across the street from the Bywatd Market. They have many of the stores and boutiques one would expect in a downtown area. The Centre is clean and metro accessible. There are even restaurants within for dining options while shopping. This mall, in the heart of downtown (and therefore the heart of the tourist area) is very popular. In the past 2 years, it has been renovated, and the renovation has been a very good thing. First of all, moving the food court from the front of the mall to the back was a stroke of brilliance. The "new" food court (one of the first renovations) is a well thought out space with some great vendors, and eco-friendly planning, including re-usable dinnerware instead of takeout for those that are eating in the space. Love it. The addition of some new retail space, accommodating a Simons was beautifully done. Another big box high end fashion department store (Nordstrom) at the other end, solidifies the Rideau Centre as a fashion mall. While Nordstrom is well out of my shopping sphere it is a lot of fun to walk thru and window shop. It generates a lot of interest and is always busy. If you aren't shopping for fashion, or looking for a quick food hit, skip this mall. There is not much else in it beyond these 2 categories Everything else with one notable exception (MIss Tiggly Winkles) has been exterminated. Would I recommend: It is a beautiful mall, and one of the most profitable in Canada, which tells you many others enjoy shopping there. Would I return: I'm not a huge shopper, but I enjoy the occasional stroll through this mall. I do head here to look for shoes, to go to Sephora, and Miss Tiggly Winkles and for the food court if we are in the area and in need of a quick bite. read more

It's actually pretty amazing, the Rideau centre is going through a type of gentrification I've witnessed since 2004. Gone is Sears, gone is movenpick- marche, the goth store across from movenpick and gone is the old food court and movie theatre? New to the block is Nespresso, Kiehls, J.Crew, Eddie Bauer a new food court and soon Nordstrom? Yuppers, this mall has come a long way in the last ten years! It was a sleepy mall (with half decent shopping) in the downtown area linking the Westin, convention centre and various transit corridors. Now once the other renos are done it will serve the downtown area with some decent options. We ate in the food court and it's nice to see the diverse selection in a clean and slightly adequately lit space. Also good to see there is still a Shoppers Drug Mart and LCBO. You have many of your mall staples plus some extras! You can knock off many needs off the list on a visit here! read more

Standard mall with the usual stores. When ever I come to canada, I really like to visit senza - such a refreshing change from VS! Don't get me wrong, I am a die hard fan of VS( primarily because of the amazing Candice swanopeol) but it's good to have a change sometimes! Some of the stores closed early given the snow and the horrible weather, but the ones that were open were cool. I am a sucker for nice shopping centers downtown. I was simply trying to get away from the cold that is Canada in January and ventured into the Rideau Centre and was pleasantly surprised. The Rideau Centre is located right next to Byward Market. It's the perfect bridge between the touristy section of Ottawa and its more official business area. It took me quite awhile to realize that it was all one big mall; I kept seeing signs for the Shaw Centre and my dumbass assumed they connected two malls together. No, my fellow uncultured swines, that is simply their convention center. :/ I'm assuming they did a recent renovation because you can tell what part of the mall is newer. In their newest section, you'll find more upscale stores that you wouldn't usually see in downtown shopping malls. Between the two sections, there is a large amount of different types of stores. You could live your best Kim K life or do your regular day-to-day shopping and you would not be judged either way. The mall is also extremely well-kept and clean. My dad and I noted that even the food court seemed to be well-maintained - as in no trays abound and people constantly around to take out trash and help people dispose of their empty food containers. The one gripe I have with Rideau is that it's extremely confusing to navigate. There were little to no maps to help you, and the one I did find didn't recognize the newer, upscale corridor as its own, thus playing into my confusion as to whether or not Nordstrom was part of the mall or its own entity. It really could use some love and attention with signs because its location is the perfect spot for out-of-towners. Even with my faulty direction issues, I think Rideau is a fabulous centerpiece to downtown Ottawa. It makes me yearn for more downtown shopping in Cincinnati! read more

I'm a bit of a shopaholic, so when the Rideau Centre got it's makeover and gained some new stores that I used to have to travel to Toronto to see, I knew I was in trouble. With recent renovations, it feels much brighter than it used to, possibly due to the expansion, possibly due to all the white flooring and bright lights. The addition of a Farm Boy in the mall is definitely convenient, and the new food court options add a nice variety as well. There are so many restaurant options, not just limited to the food court, including the cafe in Nordstrom! It would basically be impossible to go into Rideau Centre hungry and leave without finding a spot you like. They even have a Chipotle's! The one and only issue I have with coming to Rideau is the parking. Because it is located downtown, all parking is paid parking. I recommend taking the bus since it is right on the transit way, but if you can't you will be looking to spend between $3 and $4 per hour. I recognize that these are pretty low rates for downtown Ottawa, but considering what I am spending in stores, it's an extra expense I don't particularly enjoy. Thankfully though, the parking is what deters me from coming every week, so it's probably doing me a favour. All in all, Rideau is probably my favourite mall in Ottawa. Lots of variety for everything from food to footwear, and it is so close to the Byward Market that it makes for a great two-in-one trip downtown. If you're looking for somewhere to shop in Ottawa- this is the place to go. read more

With the recent expansion, the mall is even better now and carries a lot of brands that are not "typical" boring mall brands. I'm probably not the right person to review a shopping mall. If I could get away with it, I'd just have piles of the same clothes and wear the same thing day after day after day. Going shopping for clothes ranks right up there with dental surgery without anaesthetic to me. So I miss the days of having a Compucentre store in the mall; I miss the odd array of electronic parts in the Radio Shack; and I miss stores targeting average incomes - Hugo Boss is not my cup of tea. And there's lots of stores opening in this mall now that are targeting similar income levels. Indeed, my big concern is that Cadillac Fairview has overestimated the incomes of Ottawa shoppers; one significant economic downturn and a lot of the stores in this mall will be packing up and moving on. Add to that the lack of interesting non-clothing stores for me (Mrs Tiggy Winkles being the exception that proves the rule), and I'll give this mall a passing grade, but it's not the place for me (except when I'm on my way to work and stopping for a coffee). read more

The mall is right in the heart of Ottawa in the Byward Market. It's a pretty cookie cutter mall with a bunch of large department stores like The Bay and Sears. It has clothing stores from Old Navy to Banana Republic. There are 2 higher end stores for men and women Harry Rosen and Aritzia with a bunch of booths in every corner of the mall. It's got your music stores and other knick knacks. If it's not the largest mall in town than It's larger than most of the other malls in town. The Westin hotel is attached to the mall and there is also a pub that is attached to it if you would like to avoid the food court for food. The mall is easy to get to as it's a hub for the buses and most of the buses should come through here. The most important thing is that the Byward Market is across the street and you have access to a lot of other shops. read more

Most of the offerings in the food court are good, but a few need to clean up a bit. The sushi place and the Shanghai 360 need to be cleaned more. I also found that portioning in some of the restaurants is irregular. There is a lot of noise, but the worst part is the teenagers that seem to be constantly yelling and screaming. read more

The location of course is prime for Ottawa in the heart of downtown and has some decent stores. Love the new stores! I have been coming here since I was a teen and some things have stayed the same and there have also been a lot of changes. The food court - WOW! What a step up from what is was and where it was. They use real plates and cutlery! People were on dates here! The food choices were higher class and had some diversity! I was impressed. The addition of Nordstrom gives the Centre a classy look too. As always, some of the escalators were down for repair. A must-stop when in Ottawa just down the street from Parliament. Try to park on the street - the garage is way more expensive and can be hard to find a spot. read more

This place looks brand new. It reminds me a lot of Eaton Centre in Toronto but it's much more closed in and not as airy. The great thing about this mall is that it's not ridiculously busy like Eaton Centre is. Plus Rideau Centre has a Terra 20! When is Terra 20 coming to Toronto? I wish they would come. Anyway, I find this mall confusing. But there is a great selection of stores here. There's a Simons which we haven't seen in Toronto yet. Apparently they are just in Quebec & Ottawa. They also have some high end stores here like Ted Baker, Nordstrom, etc. The food court is a little small compared to the rest of the mall but I guess because there isn't as much traffic here it makes sense. The food court is cheaper than eating somewhere in the Byward market if you're trying to save $$. But then again you don't get the same atmosphere as when you're in the market. The mall has a Westin Hotel connected to it. But the hotel is super expensive when I looked at rates for our stay so I would only stay there if I'd won the lottery or something. LOL. Was disappointed at the souvenir section at the dollar store. The stuff was kinda crappy but I guess that's to be expected. read more

This is one of Ottawa's biggest malls and it has the best location. This mall is much more popular than St. Laurent or Place d'Orleans, but that also means it's incredibly packed. I avoid malls if I can because I don't like large crowds. Malls also just seem to sap my energy if I'm in them for more than an hour, plus, I prefer vintage, consignment and boutique shops over chain stores. Due to this, the Rideau Centre is one of my least favourite places to shop, but I would still definitely recommend it to anyone looking for one stop shopping (minus groceries). A good thing to remember if you haven't shopped at this four floor mall is the main floor is basically food and a few other stores. The second and third floors are mainly clothing (the third floor has the most expensive stores). The fourth floor is just the Rideau Centre Cinemas. read more

I went shopping at La Maison Monaco (Rideau Centre) with my girlfriend. Our intention was to buy high-end matching watches. Although I wasn't dressed-up looking like a millionaire, I did have comfortable and clean clothes on. Does anybody know what clothes a millionaire wears? The first sales lady who saw me refused to serve us. I heard her angrily and loudly say to the other sales people, "I'm not going to serve him. He doesn't look like he can afford anything expensive here. I'm not going to waste my time for nothing." Eventually, another sales person helped us out. This guy hid his name tag and proceeded to insult me by saying, "You're wasting my time with stupid questions!" Totally shocked, my wife and I quietly walked out of this store. A short time later, we bought matching watches at a competitor's store spending well over $10,000.00 on our purchases. Sorry, if you felt that I had wasted your time. I don't buy a watch for over $5,000.00 like I'm ordering dinner at some fast food restaurant. People like this shouldn't be in sales if they can't treat their potential customers respectfully and compassionately. Given my unpleasant experience, I can't recommend La Maison Monaco. read more

The recants renovations gave a totally new feels to the mall. The food court is now diversified and thee is a lot of speciality restaurants there. Also, there's a lot of diversity of stores. You will find a store for every needs : Video Games, Electronic, LCBO, Clothing, etc... My only problem is when you parked your car at one of the garage, it's really easy to get lost and you will often find yourself searching your car for a while before you find it. read more

The Rideau Centre is Ottawa's largest and most popular shopping mall. It's right in the heart of downtown, in between the University of Ottawa, government buildings, and ByWard Market. People of all ages come here, whether it be for shopping, errands, a meeting place, food, the bus station, or even for just passing through and getting a break from the weather. It's three levels, and even has an indoor, overhead walkway to get to the Bay across the street. The mall's had some renovations in recent years, including the addition of stores like Coach, Apple, and the only Sephora location in Ottawa. It also has a hotel, a GoodLife Fitness Club, a spa that has registered massage therapists, a dental centre, opticians, an LCBO, a small movie theatre with three screens, and even a rooftop patio and garden. Even when the stores are closed, the mall stays open for people to walk through it and get to their bus stops and access the transitway. All these things make it a really convenient, pretty much one-stop shop for all of your everyday needs, which is why it's always packed, regardless of the day or time. read more

The only con was that it was $19 for parking. Other than that, this mall is a ton of fun and there's lots to see. They have stores like H&M, Baskin Robins, Forever 21, Simons, Nordstrom's, Tim Hortons, Browns, Aldo, Aldo (and a bunch of other shoe stores), etc. The food court is pretty large and offers cafeteria style dining where you get actual plates and cutlery and you return the items to a return area. They have diverse food court options that include Greek, French, Thai, American and Indian. They have a "Made in Canada" gift store here as well as a few tea and chocolate shops. I like that the ceilings here are skylights and they let in a lot of greenery (from the tree canopy) and warmth. The mall looks modern and cool from the outside. There is a ramp/bridge that connects Rideau Centre to Hudson's Bay store. I like how modern and clean the mall is. They have really nice tiling and finishes on the walls. read more

I've been contemplating this review for awhile now, and I think I finally have my thoughts together. For most tourists visiting Ottawa this is the only mall they see, as it's at the heart of downtown, attached to the Westin Hotel and the Convention Centre. I hate to think that this is what our city's visitors see as the "best of Ottawa shopping". While the stores are generally okay (there's an Apple store here, a Town Shoes, This was a favourite hangout of mine as a teenager, just because it had the most stores out of any mall in the city and because of its proximity to the market with great restaurants and pubs. Dislikes: the hoards of people that are always hanging outside the main entrance who are always asking for money, pushing religious literature or just smoking pot. Not a fan. I also hate the fact that you have to pay for underground parking...but it is nice that it's underground in the winter. I find that the mall has gone downhill in terms of cleanliness and visual appeal, but it's going to be getting a facelift soon (that's scheduled to last at least 3 years...) - including a Nordstroms, Simons, H&M, Victoria's Secret, J Crew. I do really enjoy the food court here - they seem to have a lot more options than the other malls. It's at the very bottom of the mall and is quite big, though almost always busy. They have a sushi option which I really like along with the standard - A New York Fries, Subway, Tim Horton's, a Chinese place and an Italian/pizza place. The bathrooms nearby are pretty big as well, but not always in the best condition. Apparently both the restrooms and the food court are undergoing rennovations this year. There's always the Richtree Bakery, which is my preferred spot to eat when I'm there, on the other end of the mall, and a Booster Juice upstairs near the OC Transpo hub. Hopefully the renovations will bring this place back to what it should be - a mall to show off to visitors of our lovely city. read more

This mall is a lifesaver for those who live nearby. There's a food court offering numerous dining options ranging from burgers to Thai food to Indian food, etc. There's also a pharmacy and Farm Boy within the mall to provide you with all your daily essentials. Overall, the mall is spacious and has a very modern look and feel. I don't know about the rest of the reviewers here, but I remember Rideau Centre as it was 10 (omg TEN!) years ago, when I was but a young buck haunting the halls of this place with my gang of schoolyard pals. Okay, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration, but I did graduate from high school in Ottawa, and I did used to go to the Rideau Centre back then. And let me tell you: the Rideau Centre as it is now is NOTHING like the one I remember -- in the best possible way. First of all, let's talk about the food court: it is AMAZING. Every type of food you could imagine, and all shiny and new. You want Japanese? Salads? Crepes? Mexican? Burgers? KFC? A straight up chocolate fountain? It's all there! And with plenty of seating and some pretty sweet restrooms to boot. Then, there's the store selection. Rideau used to house primarily middle-end Canadian stores (Le Chateau, The Bay, La Vie En Rose, etc), but now it's a house of global brands that should be able to satisfy anyone's high-end retail therapy needs! Sephora, MAC, J.Crew, Banana Republic, BCBG Max Azria, Lacoste... even a freaking Tiffany & Co! Unghghh, it's soooo nice. They're still doing a little bit of construction on the bottom floor, but it doesn't seem to impact things during the day. Good show, Rideau! You've really grown up, and I liiiiike it! read more

Boy has this place changed. Well done Rideau, you have really brought yourself up a few levels! The whole look of the mall has DRAMATICALLY changed over the last couple of years. With the arrival of Nordstrom's the mall seems to have enticed several other higher end retailers to join the Ottawa scene: such at Tiffany's! The entire space now boasts beautiful black and while stone, clean design lines, and presents a more upscale atmosphere. It is situated in the heart of downtown, still connected to the conference centre, the Westin Hotel, and right across form our nations forces offices, so it's as busy as ever, yet somehow it does not feel as crowded as it once did. Many stores have changed locations, and a few have disappeared but my only disappointment with all the changes is that the Marché Lino/Richtree Market has gone. It was unique: open concept restaurant decorated like an outdoor market with trees and hand written signs, where you could go to different stalls within the restaurant, pick what you wanted to eat and it was made for you on the spot - a sort of different style buffet. It had been there for years and perhaps with the new (and beautiful) food court with so many food options, it would not have survived. If I'm honest, I may have eaten there twice, but I liked the atmosphere it created in the mall. On the one hand this place has a lot of my favourite stores, on the other it is laid out in a frustrating way, several of the escalators don;t line up between levels and it has this hoity-toity air about it that it didn't when I first moved to Ottawa. I do really appreciate this mall during the holidays thought when it is all decked out in lights and garland. read more

This mall has really stepped it up since the massive renovations. It brings a bit more class to the downtown core, but they didnt miss on the essentials that pedestrian life requires either. Stores are a bit more conveniently placed. I love the new Farm Boy, Sussex entrance, which is pretty much all grab and go food. No tables though, but a standing height wide counter just outside works in a pinch. read more

I give this mall a 4.5... the only reason I dock it 0.5 is because of the expensive parking. The mall is full of beautiful stores with plenty of variety. My one suggestion would be to offer some sort of validated parking, PLEASE!! read more
