When I'm visiting a city that I don't know well, I sometimes consult Yelp to find some cool places to shop. If you are like me, be warned that Ottawa has a lot of "Shopping Centres" that are just functional places to run errands, they are not shopping destinations! The Hampton Park Plaza is such as place.
The anchor store is a Food Basics (a discount grocery store). The other major store is Rexall (a pharmacy). Fashionistas will be sorely disappointed. No fashion stores here. They do have an independent jeweler, an independent dollar store, a medical centre, a Domino's Pizza, some sort of pet store, and a bank (Scotiabank). And some other businesses I'm probably missing.
If you live in the area and need to buy some shampoo or pick up a head of lettuce, great you can go here, but it's not a type of place that you would drive across the city for.
There used to be a Swiss Chalet there, but it has since closed and at the time of the writing of this review it looks like they are opening up an East Side Mario's and D'Arcy McGee's in its place.
Lots of free parking in the plaza, but parts are not laid out well, and I've seen many people not stop at the stop signs, so watch out for bad drivers! read more
