But truly, the food here tastes as authentic as it can get in Ottawa and very comparable to the AMAZING food you'd find in Toronto/markham. It brings memories back from HK cha cha tengs (ifykyk). We usually come for lunch, but the photo attached is from their set dinner menu. If you come for lunch our go-to is usually the baked porkchop rice (classic), wonton soup, satay beef noodles, hot and sour soup, pad thai, and ofc their milk tea. The previous owner still works here from time-to-time helping out and the new owner that took over is also just as great. Just make sure to plan your trip here accordingly, as during rush hours, you may need to wait for an open table - but so worth it.

Lots of duck eggs in the congee, but lacked shredded pork. Decent size, can get to share for 2 people. Would get the congee again, but with other toppings. Steamed sticky rice in lotus leaf - Undercooked, rice was not soft. filling was bland and lacked texture. Would not recommend. Seems like this place is a hit or miss with their items.

If you want to have dinner with large crowd, you might want to reconsider. The staff members were super friendly and welcoming. I did notice the place was more of "take out" place, as lot of folks came in to pick up their food. We wrote down our food items on the piece of paper that was provided and gave it to the staff. The food came out slow, even with three tables being occupied, so give yourself enough time to eat, aka - pace yourself :) While the dim sum was decent, nothing too special to write home about. The one complaint we had was the D7 Shang hai pork dumpling, when we picked it up, it felt apart, which shouldn't happen if made to order. One I can understand, but when this happens to all six pieces, then it's a different story.... definitely was premade, frozen and reheated unfortunately. I get that's necessary when they are busy, but I wish they would make set amount and if you run out, then you are out for the day, but oh well. The beef and bean sprouts with rice noodles were decent, unfortunately the rice noodles also fell apart as you picked it up. As I stated, the food came out in stages, so pace yourself.... the staff were friendly and attentive, if we asked for more tea, it was refilled. Definitely worth trying, as this place came up as one of the must try in Ottawa during my research. Street parking, parked in front of the store, parking is free on the weekend, 2 hour max between 7am to 7pm, just keep that in mind.

This review is only for their BBQ pork buns…read more I love steamed BBQ pork buns and really miss the ones I used to get at the bakeries in Chinatown in Toronto, so I was thrilled when I was flipping through UberEats for deals and found some that were BOGO (buy one get one free) at Ha's Dim Sum House. They were 3 for $6.25, so I got 6 for that price (note that the regular price in-store is 3 for $5.75). Overall, they were ok, but some pork pieces were really fatty. They were also rather small and had very little filling, but I guess I can't expect too much for the price, lol. The Bao bun was soft and fluffy and the filling was flavourful without being too salty. I picked up my order and it was ready really quickly. Like less than 10 minutes. Pickup was equally efficient. When I was there (July 2023) they were takeout only, no dine-in services. This space used to be Yimin Dim Sum House (which moved to Kent St before moving back to Somerset St a bit east of this location) and before that it was Hung Sum Restaurant (which closed down, then moved further west on Somerset St, then closed down again). I've never actually dined-in at this restaurant, but it's in a converted house and is rather small. Street parking only.

What can I say about Ottawa Eats? It's a far comparison to Toronto and GTA eats but I didn't dislike this place. This place had one full table of seniors when we arrived at 5:45. They seemed lovely and seemed like regulars. The service was a little slow considering how empty the place was but a few tables did fill up during our time there. We ordered the crispy beef, 1/2 a Peking duck and white rice. The crispy beef worked for my teen's pallet. Legit crunchy and enjoyable crispness with a thick sweet sauce which coated well (and wasn't swimming in sauce which is proper). It worked well with a couple bowls of plain rice. He was happy to have a little bit of tasty Asian food. The Peking duck was ok. Not the prettiest. Not the nicest display but it was alright. The duck itself was cooked alright but you could tell based on the skin it wasn't going to be a slam dunk. Nonetheless, it was nice having Asian food that was alright. It only comes as one course - Peking duck with the wheat wraps. There is no 2nd course option with lettuce wraps, nor do they offer. When asked after it was served if there were options, they said you can opt for a soup made with the bones for an extra $10 but since it wasn't requested, they tossed it. Note, there is no option or mention on the menu nor did the staff say. For Ottawa Chinese food, it was solid. I'd go back.

This is not because she is the world's greatest cook but because most of the offerings are pretty ordinary. All that said Peking Duck is an exception. We ordered the Peking Duck and while expensive at 88 dollars it was enough for a meal for the two of us. It felt elegant and of very high quality. I've had Peking duck a few times and no where near as good as this. In any case, this was our favorite Chinese place after 4 months living in Ottawa. Not sure about the rest of the menu, but probably worth a try and we might go back. Only downsides are it might be a bit expensive for what it is, and the restaurant is near the Byward Market. The restaurant is very nice but Byward is one of the few spots in Ottawa, that as an American I find to feel a bit sketchy at night.
