Definitely loving the new re vamp. I am a fan of the decor, uniforms and new menu both food and drinks. If you havent been yet, put it on your list. The new beer garden is very relaxing. They have tables and chairs or high bar stool areas and they have multiple person bench swings to enjoy while you sip on your cocktails. Staff and very friendly and are showing great enthusiasm for their new atmosphere. I just love coming here now. Been twice jow and have loved both times. Hardest part is choosing what to order. Prices have gone up a little butbin my opinion it is worth the extra couple of $$. Meals a huge and you still have the vegie and salad bar attatched also.

    Mate pizza, Southern fried chicken.

The theme is based on the tale of the flying trunk. The cocktails are delicious. We had the salted caramel star and the so flute. I loved the little pretzel star in the salted caramel. They also serve tapas food. They also serve tapas food. We had the pan fried gnocchi with artichokes, and the buffalo mozzarella with tomatoes. Mmm! The prices are pretty reasonable as well. The cocktails are $17 - $20. The tapas is under $15. We also had a lovely conversation with the owner evi about the design of the place. I'd love to come back again on my way home from workies :) Nothing much more I can add to what Karen F had commented, both Adam & Evi are great hosts. Very attentive and explained both the cocktails and food very well and enticed us into trying them. Enjoyable evening.

I have only been here for a wine and cocktail so far but this place really adds to the quirky little shops, bakeries and cafes that are popping up on KWR! Fast and friendly service, combined with some unique concoctions and names of cocktails means you will spend most of your time there deciding which cocktail you'll get when you next return. The Elephant Espress is on my list to try next time. If you are like my other half though and think cocktail is for cordial drinkers then never fear - the wine and beer list is for quoffers and swirlers alike. These guys take their booze seriously and I am definitely signing up for one of their monthly "tasting flight masterclasses" in the future.

I've been caught out many times! The service has never been 5 star and sometimes it takes a while to be served. Staff always seem friendly though and I try to relax into the beach vibe instead of worrying that things aren't perfect. I like the atmosphere and it varies delaying on day and time of day. Sunday evenings is always busy and there is live music, plus an enthusiastic dancing crowd. Quite an older crowd the later it gets on Sundays. I have had a few meetings here in the day and it's a great spot to chill out and pretend to work ;-) I agree with Chloe about the food being a bit overly deep fried. I have had some tasty food here, and it does always look fresh and nicely presented, but some lighter options would be welcome. The cocktails look amazing, but somehow I just about always order sparkling wine! I'd recommend keeping an eye on their Facebook page as they put up great photos and details of their specials and new offerings. They put up some enviable sunset photos too. All in all, a fun place in a brilliant location!

There are few and far between choices when it comes to grabbing a good, well priced drink outdoors in Henley Beach on a weekend in summer. And I know you're thinking - "What? There's tonnes of places down at Henley to grab a drink!" Yes but I could list them off for you and that would be enough said... Bacchus is one of the better locations because of their good wine menu and well made cocktail and drinks list. They would get 5 stars in my books for location and the fact you can drink on the foreshore alone. Unfortunately though they have an incredibly ordinary food and tapas menu and no matter how many times I give that place a try I am always disappointed by their unoriginal, over fried, pre-packaged food. It's weird, because their menu and photos of food from Facebook always look so enticing, so maybe I'm just ordering wrong? That said, I won't say no to a nice vino on the deck as the sun sets in winter or summer, enjoying the 25+ eye candy and imagining I own my own apartment on the beach in Adelaide!

Hats off to the wine makers! Just outside of the main strip in McLaren Vale, you will be greeted with a lovely old homestead, vegetable patch, chicken shed and an array of buildings for different styles of entertaining. This is what we wish all our homes to look like. Oh, the country Life. Take note of the barn in front of you with the massive pizza oven. What a great space for functions overlooking the rolling hills and vineyards. Also, just next to it is an outdoor fireplace under a gazebo. I would love a Friday arvo knock off or Sunday sesh in there. And just over to the right, you will find the entry to the Cellar Door. Make your way through the front doors and you will find a large open space with one long bar. Great to handle a few group tastings at once, which is a must for the busy weekends. The staff here are ever so friendly and you can see that they are proud of the produce. They will share the story of each wine and educate you on why each wine earned it's name. Going through the flight you will have a range of options to suit your palate. After trying them all I would have to say my favourites being the Chardonnay and Skeleton Key Shiraz. The Chardonnay here is called the Minimalist and is true to it's name. It is lighter than most, with a light peach fruit flavour. It does not have the heavy oak flavour that the old varieties have which is great. The Skeleton Key Shiraz is bold, but it has a spiced slightly sweet berry flavour through the wine. Perfect for winter! Pop Penny's Hill on your list of wineries to visit next time you are in McLaren Vale. You will not be disappointed.

The bottle prices are very reasonable too and will be one of the reasons you go back for more!!

An ever changing and simple wine list of SA wines by the glass and bottle as well as a few ciders and beers to boot complement the gourmet tapas style menu on offer. I love sharing food and so this place suited me perfectly however my partner was hoping we would go out for the "main meal" after dining here! Every dish was incredibly well flavoured and spiced as well as being rich enough to be filling. It wasn't the healthiest meal but every we tried couldn't be faulted. From the thai chicken balls with a caramelly soy sauce to waygu meat balls, fennel and orange soaked olives (my fav) and the fried haloumi it all worked well with each other and what we were drinking. This venue is also deceivingly larger than you would expect as you walk up to the counter (in a room behind the front bar and dining area) and can explore a larger carpeted dining and entertaining area as well as seating out the side of the house. It has been furnished very classically with old wooden chairs and tables but given a modern twist with the quirky addition of wine glass chandeliers and a mirrored room indoors. So if you're looking for a pre-dinner or late evening snack over some unusual local wine and tasty tapas, this place is worth bookmarking.

Last night we got an off the cuff invite for drinks at 16:30 and to hear a band The Prospectors. Arriving late (that's our style) we missed the first set so sat out the back with a glass of bubbly and had a chat. There are a variety of rooms from the main with couches, large and small tables and bar stools, to small quiet intimate side rooms that can be used for groups. The wine is varied, many by the glass at fair prices and the staff are well versed in wine so are able to find something you'll like. The food is so very tasty. Mustard cheese bread, arancini balls, crushed potatoes and a three cheese plate. Ordered just at the end of the bands second set we were up on the dance floor. Tradition states with The Prospectors, that one of their last songs of an evening is 'dancing on the streets' in which you go and do just what the song says. A final note on the first Wednesday of the month they do a wine food pairing night with a local wine producer. It is a very popular event often being booked out weeks if not months in advance (we booked the last seat for the December event, 2 months in the future from time of posting) So expect an update in a few months.

I now know why service with more than just a smile can have even more meaning than great food and a cool environment. Our waitress, Lani, was so passionate and having so much fun in her job that we were convinced she was the owner of the place! She was not shy in sharing her opinion of the wine we should be drinking nor of having a chat in between serving others, we walked out feeling like a regular of the place - still bubbling from the friendliness and genuine concern for ensuring we had a good time. But I also can't go past the food. Here are 3 key finger lickingly good tips for you when dining for dinner here: - Sharing is caring and worth it for anyone on a budget or who gets food envy (yours truly). But don't feel limited to the Bar/Share menu, you can share the pizza, the mains the smaller plates and you'll be full from 4-5 dishes between 2! - If you like unusual flavour combinations, that is still accessible to the normal palette (ie. not offal) this is the place for you. Gin and beetroot cured salmon or Fig & Proscuitto Pizza, even the mushroom stuffed baby squid all were such simple concoctions but so well flavoured. - Get there at sunset, it is really well enclosed on the balcony outside and if you have a coat in winter you could easily sit outside and watch the beautiful sunset over Semaphore beach + score 100 romance points too! Like a kid in a candy shop who just found the best sweets tucked away in the back of the shop, I am still hyped up about Lickerish and can't wait to save up my pennies till my next visit with friends.
