Stopped in here on a whim while driving over to Blacksburg and it did not disappoint. Most buffet places I've been to usually are lacking in selection or the trays are picked over, but I didn't encounter that at Wood Grill. I loved that there was a large selection of eats, that ranged from grilled veggies (my fav part) crunchy shrimps, burgers, a Mac and beef mix that was bomb, corn pudding, salad, fruit, cold salads, grilled chicken (another fav), baked potato, and a range of desserts. I usually only get two plates but legit went back 4 times. Granted the plates were small (which was awesome) which really helped with portion control and less food waste (huge win). Best part was they had diet Dr. Pepper (hehe). Our server was nice and checked in on us various times and cleaned up plates quickly. There were a number of people but as we left it stated to really fill up. Staff kept the trays coming despite the number of people. We were looking for a lunch spot in close proximity to the Regal Cinemas in Harrisonburg, and wanted a place where we wouldn't have too much of a wait as it was already getting to be 2 pm and we were hungry. The Wood Grill Buffet fit the bill. Parking was easy, and free. The restaurant is HUGE, so we were seated immediately. The buffet offers a wide variety of all-you-can-eat buffet items. Knowing that I tend to overeat when in such a restaurant, I deliberately looked carefully at all of the options first in order to plan out what I would eat. I loaded up first with the salad bar, which offered a good variety of fresh salad items (lettuces, cucumbers, carrots, mushrooms, peppers, etc.), and many dressing choices. They also had many prepared mayonnaise-based salads, but I passed on these. For my main entrees, I concentrated on items that I usually don't make at home -- pot roast with potatoes and carrots; steak; and breaded shrimp -- all of which were excellent. I also ate A-LOT of sautéed mushrooms! I passed on a wide variety of other tempting-looking items -- from ribs, to various seafood items, to Mexican, to pizza, to hamburgers, and far more. There were also a huge number of dessert items. I took a bit of swirl ice cream, and called it a day. I even passed on the big variety of syrups and toppings. In spite of my good intentions to not over-eat, I was still stuffed. Buffet items were refilled regularly, even with it being past the lunch-time rush. Our hostess was attentive but not over-bearing. She refilled our ice waters, and removed our used plates. In general, the restaurant felt a bit under-staffed as some tables were slow to be cleared. Note that the restaurant-provided prices here on Yelp are no longer correct. We visited on a Sunday around 2 pm in late August, 2023. An adult buffet was $16.99 each.
