My first visit, I was helped by Jake, who was so pleasant and didn't give me a hard time in requesting a different color for each hand so I could find my perfect match. Over the next few visits they also helped me try out different shapes until we finally landed on oval as the winner. When it came time to doing my nails for the actual wedding, Jake was so incredibly patient and took a lot of pauses to allow me to be the most meticulous bridezilla as I inspected to make sure everything was exactly as I wanted it. Between Jake and Tiffany, I have had nothing but positive experiences here, and have made it my new mail home. I'm excited to be past the wedding so I can go back to different colors and styles. The only reason I have given them 4/5 stars is because the salon itself feels it could use a little love. It is definitely very clean and I have seen them keeping up with sanitizing procedures, but the space could use some design love.

The experience went downhill before the service even really started. Trying colors is a completely standard practice at nail salons, but Crystal Sun's practice for some reason cannot deliver. I showed the technician a reference photo of the pink shade I wanted. Since there were dozens of similar pinks on the color board, I simply asked for her advice. Experienced nail technicians usually know which shades are closest to a reference photo, so I thought it was a reasonable question. Instead, she came back with a color that looked almost white. I politely asked, "This is more of a white-ish color, right?" just to confirm. She became impatient and rude, "Just tell me the number of the color (from their color board) you want to have." At that point I was already frustrated, but I picked another color number anyway. Then the owner stepped in and started telling me, "You know this color is very pink..." I asked if I could simply try it so I could see how it looked on my nail. Instead of answering, she kept explaining why I didn't need to try it. So I asked, "So I can't try it?" Her response? "You don't need to give me attitude." I wasn't giving anyone an attitude, as I was asking for advice and trying to communicate what I wanted. I even showed her my reference photo and explained that I was asking because it's difficult to match a picture to a bunch of similar colors. She brushed it off by saying pictures and real life don't always look the same, which is exactly why I wanted to try the color first. She then grabbed another polish and started telling me that darker colors are better for pedicures, again without letting me try it. By then I was exhausted from arguing over something that every other salon I've been to handles without any issue, so I just accepted it and wanted the appointment to be over. Unfortunately, the service itself was just as disappointing as the interaction. The polish application was sloppy, the brush strokes were uneven, my cuticles were barely cleaned up, and the overall finish looked rushed. The worst part? I got home and noticed the polish was already chipping. I've honestly never had a fresh pedicure chip almost immediately (See pictures). I still paid full price for the worst pedicures I've ever received. After this experience, I'm not surprised this salon sits at a 3.8-star rating on Google. I was hoping to find a nail salon in Jersey City that I could return to long-term, but this was a huge mistake. Save yourself the time, money, and frustration. DO NOT GO.

Stay away from this place…read more Last week, the manicurist (I believe she is also the owner, as her name is on the business cards) at Ultimate Nail Salon cut my finger and sent me home without so much as an apology. Not wanting to leave anything to chance, I immediately cleaned the wound with soap, then alcohol once I got home, which is about two blocks away. Within hours, the left side of my fingernail (where the wound was inflicted) swelled up, and has progressively gotten worse each day, despite periodic cleaning and daily application of Neosporin at the site. Yesterday the pain was unbearable and I started to see pus, so today (4 days since the incident) I decided to see my doctor, who confirmed that I have Paronychia (an infection in the nail region, which may be a bacterial or fungal infection). He said that 9 times out of 10, these are caused by dirty nail instruments at nail salons. This was before I told him that I had my manicure done last Friday and that the nail tech had cut my finger. I went back to the nail salon and spoke with the owner (?) Helen, who was very aggressive and defensive. When she asked to see my finger, she accidentally (?) pressed the infected part, which caused me to scream in pain, and caused more blood to ooze out of the wound she inflicted on me last Friday. I told her that she never even apologized during my manicure last week, and that again she didn't even apologize for hurting me even more. Only then did she apologize, and smugly at that. I told her I had just seen my doctor and he confirmed that it was an infection, often caused by dirty nail instruments. Her response was to point at the toaster-looking sanitizers (not sure if those were autoclaves) and taunted me to call the Department of Health. I told her that there was no guarantee that she cleaned her instruments before working on me, and our "dialogue" escalated at that point. Before leaving I repeatedly asked her to give me the number for the DOH as I now intended to report her (I had no intention of doing this prior to this), which she refused to do. (EDIT: I have now reported this nail salon to the JC DOH, and am in the process of filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau). I am uploading a photo of my finger after today's visit to this nail salon and you guys can be the judge. I am now on antibiotics, and may have to return to my doctor's office on Friday (7 days after the manicurist cut my finger) so he can slice my finger to remove the pus if conditions do not improve. Normally I'm a big proponent of supporting local businesses, but I can't support this one based on the salon's practices and that owner's smug attitude.

Every employee has had their turn either doing my nails or toes. Every employee has done a phenomenal job. I leave happy every time. They follow current COVID protocols. I'm not exactly sure what other people are experiencing but I have not ever heard or seen anything discriminating or racist or assault.
