I brought my car here after the temperature gauge started running higher than normal during my…read morecommute. I initially thought it might just be an aging coolant issue, but I didn't want to keep driving it and risk turning a cooling-system problem into an engine problem. Their technicians inspected the heating and coolant system rather than simply topping off the reservoir and sending me home. They found that the coolant level was low and traced the issue to a leak that needed attention. They also checked the hoses and other components of the cooling system and explained what they found before doing the repair. I appreciated that because I wanted to understand why the temperature had been fluctuating instead of just being handed a repair bill. While they had the vehicle, they also checked the heater operation because I'd noticed that the cabin heat wasn't getting as warm as it normally did. The technician explained how the coolant system affects both engine temperature and the vehicle's heating system, which helped everything make much more sense. After the repair and coolant service, the temperature gauge stayed exactly where it should during both stop-and-go D.C. traffic and longer drives. The heater also returned to normal operation. I love that they didn't immediately recommend replacing expensive parts. They inspected the system, identified the actual problem, explained the repair, and then verified that everything was operating properly afterward. That's exactly the kind of approach I want from an auto repair shop. Plus, everyone was professional throughout the visit, and the technicians clearly knew what they were doing - very reassuring!

Form the moment I talked to Chris and the staff, though, I felt completely at ease. They diagnosed a bad ignition coil, gave me a staightforward estimate, and didn't pressure me into adding any unnecessary fixes. They knocked out the repair the very same day, and my car has been running perfectly since. It's tough finding a trustworthy mechanic in DC, but these guys are the real deal.

Auto Tech Service - Their waiting room is great. I had my feet kicked up on the leather recliner with the remote in my hand and writing stories via Wi-Fi.

My transmission had gone out, unfortunately, but they got be back up and running quickly. Shortly after, when my gear shift was giving me problems, I went back. They offered to pay for the labor since there was uncertainty about it being related to the transmission. I thought that was very notable (and very appreciated). All in all, the shop owners, Miguel and Luis, are super kind and clearly look out for their customers. I'll be going back without hesitating if I ever have future issues.

So when my local mechanic couldn't fix an issue that cropped up with my car in September, I went out of my way to bring my car from NW to Auto Tech's Trinidad shop. My car had a P1454 check engine light (fuel tank pressure sensor/EVAP system issue). Auto Tech did a diagnostic and recommended replacing the sensor for $519. They said they weren't completely sure it would fix the problem, but they warned me that if I took the car to a dealer, the dealer would want to replace the full EVAP system for at least $2,000. I trusted Auto Tech's advice and authorized the $519 repair, but the check engine light came back on the next day. Auto Tech then advised I replace the rest of the EVAP system, quoting me over $1,500 just for the parts. I decided to get a second opinion from the dealer anyway. For a $195 diagnostic fee, the dealer identified a clogged fuel vent tube, cleaned it out, and fixed the problem. This tube is attached to the same fuel tank pressor sensor Auto Tech replaced -- meaning that Auto Tech never took the time to check for a blockage in the immediate vicinity of the part they replaced. When I called Auto Tech to provide this feedback and express my disappointment with the misdiagnosis, they blew me off. They insisted they had been right all along, offered an obviously insincere apology, and hurriedly got off the phone. I am deeply disappointed with Auto Tech and can no longer recommend them due to their failure to properly diagnose this issue, bad advice about how much a dealership would have charged, and dismissal of my feedback.

Not only did Mike get my oil changed he also wouldn't let my go with doing a full diagnostic to figure out it ran hot in the first place. He texted me and printed what repairs were needed. My H3 needed 6 quarts of oil, he only charged me for 5. ...without doing.... These guys made sure I was safe and understood what was happening to my vehicle and what could happen if tje issues are repaired. I am definitely going back and I recommend them. signed, Lady Hummer Driver

Cons They had my car for 24 hours and i had to call them to ask for updates. They gave me 8k estimate for a full scope of work that was needed. I declined all but what my car got towed for and 3 new tires. That total cost was $1500 When my car was ready they called me 15 mins before closing so i could not get my car until the following day. Would not have been an issue but they parked my car on the street where it received a ticket. When i mentioned the ticket they collected it and said they were going to pay it. A month goes by and the ticket has not been paid and it doubled. I didn't follow back up before the month went by because my dad passed 10 days later so it was not on my mind. When i called the shop to explain about the ticket they said they don't usually pay this kind of parking ticket. Lol after it doubled they conveniently do not pay this type. All of this could have been avoided had they looked at the ticket type and called me to notify me. They will never get anymore business from me. Sad because all they had to do was call the customer. Amended 5/6 The GM Mike called me to rectify the situation. He listened to me and apologized for the level of customer service I received. Being that this location is in DC and has a small lot they easily run into issues with ticketing. He made sure the ticket was paid within an hour of our call. I appreciate small businesses and ones that make it right with their customers.

Friendly staff! I'm new to the area and so glad I came to this shop. Service advisors, Meg and…read morePaul, were great. Meg was welcoming and even gave some coffee shop recommendations to check out while I waited. I made an appointment to have my exhaust system checked out because my SUV sounds like a tractor. The mechanic tech who worked on my car took a test drive with me. He washed his hands and was considerate enough to place a mat down before getting into my car. He heard the noises from my exhaust upon idling and acceleration and was able to identify the issue.... Pending exhaust/muffler replacement to the tune of $1,700+ I ended up changing my coolant and transmission fluid (around $700 for services, including diagnostic fee) as preventative maintenance for now. The diagnostic included a more thorough assessment than I've gotten at the Ford dealership or any other auto shop. They checked ALL my fluid levels, brakes, and dashboard lights. And they provide visuals to let you know where fluid levels should be and where your vehicle's currently is. They provide a video as well of the issues with tour vehicle. They were courteous. You pay a diagnostic fee (about $90) separate from service provided, but I'm ok with that job because of how thorough it is. It isn't just targeting the issues as the "customer states," they go beyond and check out things. They provide so many services, including transmission and exhaust, which either gets outsourced if you're at the dealership or you'd have to go to a specialty shop for that work. I think Old Ox is part of a chain of shops, but I appreciated them working on my vehicle and explaining the issues. They're down-to-earth. The customer service was great. I have a Ford, which means I'll definitely be back for repairs and maintenance soon.
