Had state safety inspection done on a used car I bought. Easy, no appointment needed, friendly technician. $80 is a fair price and it was prominently displayed. After my service was completed the owner loudly and wrongly accused me of trying to scam them when I put forth my credit card as paymen. Basically racially profiling and assuming that I would charge back any payment made. It was so unnecessary and highly embarrassing and an extremely inappropriate response to my credit card paymen. Do not take your business here! read more

RACIST - I am a Black woman & I was making a payment with them and when I pulled out my card to pay the southeast Asian woman at the front looked at me and said "you better not do a charge back" inferring that I was trying to scam them in anyway. Confused I said ma'am I'm not that type of person I'm not sure why you are saying that. She again says "you better not do a charge back because if you do we are going to come after you and make sure you pay." I again say I'm not sure where this is coming from but I'm not that type of person. This is happening in their lobby out in public for anyone around to hear how she is addressing me. Mind you this is not how the non Black person before me was treated. It was incredibly embarrassing to be treated this way. Whatever preconceived notions you have about Black people should not bleed into your business practices especially when you are servicing a predominantly Black area. Disappointed doesn't even begin to describe how I feel. Can't believe in 2023 people still behave this way after everything we witnessed people still believe it's okay for them to behave this way. $600 to Fix my Heat and my Car is Still Freezing!!! I gave this place its first review because I thought they were honest. I've taken it back for brake work that was so-so. But on October 27th I was out driving for Uber and my heat stopped working so I took it in that morning. I told them that the last time I took it for an oil change my coolant was low and that I was told to watch for a leak--I hadn't noticed one. A couple hours later they called and told me they needed to replace the water heater and flush the radio and it would be $560. They hadn't finished by the end of the day so I missed out on my most lucrative night of driving--Fridays. Saturday they finally called and said the heat was working but that I should get the cabin filters changed. I told him i couldn't afford anything else and he said he'd do it for $40 making my total just over $600 so I told them to go ahead. They told me they changed the water hose and flushed the radiator and that they cleaned a lot of corrosion off the heating coil which would probably be need to be changed at some point. When I picked my car up, I let the heat run before I pulled off and it never got hot--just a little warm. Manuel told me I needed to ride around for a while for it to get hot (something I never needed to do with my 2011 Jeep before). He also told me to come back if it still didn't work. Though I didn't need heat, I did have my blowers on Saturday night from Alexandria to Laurel and they never got hot. I get a burst of heat when i first turn it on, but then the air still blows cold. I called Manuel Monday instead of taking it back as he suggested and he said "oh, you need to get the heating coil changed." Really?? Why didn't you do that in the first place? When the heat first started to falter I mentioned it to a friend who took auto repair classes and he said "it sounds like the heating coil." Everything i googled about the issue from other Jeep Liberty owners said "heating coil." My friend also went on to explain that that it's a pain to change. Had they changed that first, I may have still had other issues, but at least I'd have heat--which is why I took it there. So they got me for $600 and I still need a heating coil. Now I've got to pay someone else to change the heating coil before I can go back to driving for Uber. They wont get me again. read more

I have had several of my vehicles here for different reasons and I highly recommend this auto repair shop. The people here are honest and very good working on cars. The owner, Mike, is very knowledgeable, professional and hard-working. You can trust what he says. Don't be fooled that they are a small shop or that it might be a bit messy. They are very reasonably priced and won't rip you off like I have experienced with car dealers and other shops. Had my KIA Truck taken in for service at 100k miles. Told him my problems needing transmission oil. They were kind enough to explain the advantages of why or why not I should not do a complete flush. I've taken it to KIA dealership prior and stated the same reason, BUT HI-TECH WAS CHARGING ONLY ALMOST HALF THE COST!!! And luckily due to their thorough maintenance check, told me I was in dire need of brakes and also explained to me why I need synthetic oil change versus conventional oil change. Prior to installing new brakes (OE) , they showed me the excessive wear. Whats great to know, these guys were very honest and sought out to make sure I was taken care of along with other options I need to keep an eye out for proper maintenance of my beloved truck. I recently purchased a 2007 Mazda CX-7 at auction and immediately noticed a problem when I left the lot. There was a problem with the acceleration and it sounded like I was driving a diesel truck. I first took it to the local Mazda dealership to have a diagnostic assessment. After keeping my vehicle for 2 days, they finally came back and told me that I needed to replace the right wheel bearings (at a cost over $1,000) before they checked anything else. I decided to pick up my vehicle without the repair and take it to Hi Tech Auto in Laurel, Md because they have always treated me fairly in the past. Manuel is the person I have always dealt with and I told him what I was experiencing and what the Mazda dealer told me. Rather than accepting what 'someone else' said, Manuel did his own assessment (He also did the required Maryland State Inspection) and called to tell me the "bad news". Not only was the Right Rear Wheel Bearings bad, the Left rear Wheel bearings needed to be replaced as well. In addition, the front brakes had seized and the rotors needed replacing and new brakes and brake pads installed. Because he knew that I could only do the absolutely necessary things because of the expense, he told me I could hold off on replacing the rear brakes for now. I really appreciated his empathy towards me and valued the fact that he wasn't trying to get me to do everything while I was obviously in a desperate state. I authorized the repairs we agreed upon and didn't think twice. First thing the very next day, Manuel called me on my cell and told me that because the wheels were already off for the wheel bearing replacement, doing the rear brakes at this time would make a lot of sense, I gulped while trying to figure out how I was going to pay even more money before he told me that he would waive the labor charge and that all I needed to pay was parts. The vehicle also was missing three rear bulbs that had to be replaced in order to pass the inspection. He said he would not charge me for them either. WOW! WOW! WOW!! After all was said and done, I had both rear wheel bearing replaced, front brake rotors replaces, rear rotors machined, new front and rear brakes installed, 4 tires rebalanced, a 4 wheel alignment, three taillights bulbs replaced, and a Maryland State Inspection done for a little more than what the Mazda dealer was going to charge me for JUST ONE WHEEL BEARING REPLACEMENT. Manuel treated my vehicle like it was his own and restored my faith in the auto repair industry. I will be going back to Hi Tech Auto for all of my future auto repair needs and you should too if you are near the Laurel, Maryland area. You will not regret it. I had an issue with my 2006 Ford Taurus. The mechanics let me know exactly what was wrong no lies or headaches. They gave me recommendations on what should be replaced soon but it wasn't absolutely necessary at the time. They were kind enough to drop me off at my apartment instead of waiting in the lobby, free of charge!! Great people!! Horrible horrible horrible! These people are crooks. Their customer service is non-existent. They will lure you in with cheap coupons and then attempt to scam you for unneeded repairs. Stay clear of this repair shop. Something changed based on the earlier reviews and I can tell you that these people are NOT honest at all.
