We visited this place twice on our last trip to Ann Arbor. First off, we loved the selection of beers. They run the full gamut. We hope to be living nearby and try even more and take some growlers home from time to time. They also have an amazing menu. I ordered the quesadilla, which was fantastic. The most remarkable thing was that their blue corn tortilla chips were the best I've had outside the southwest. We cannot wait to sample more of the menu. Came here for the first time this weekend. I do not know why I had not visited before. Nice spot, not too large or too small. Could definitely get rowdy and packed during a game day. Good spot, good vibe, great selection of beer and food. I had the beef brisket french dip sandwich with chips and shared some loaded nachos with friends. Very generous portions. Pretty good overall. Stopped for lunch. You order at the bar and then grab a table. Went to order at the bar and the bartender, complete with hipster waxed mustache, took our order with his back turned to us. Normally I would have a few choice words for him but my schedule was tight and I was hungry. I tolerated his utter lack of decorum and placed an order. My beer (Wolverine Premium) was delicious, cold, and crisp. Food was good. I recommend the nachos. There are other places to try and I would only return if I wanted a good beer and quick sandwich. Maybe the guy from Mythbusters will learn some manners and face the customers when talking with them. Tip: The place is behind an abandoned dry cleaners. After a subpar experience at a nice brewery the night before, Wolverine gave me a great experience at a not-at-all fancy brewery! They do lagers in all sort of entertaining ways--my three drinks were all engaging. The bar was full of regulars and there were lots of groups on the dining area. Nothing fancy here--just a big room that seems to have once been a stock industrial warehouse or something of the sort. Food--I had a brisket French dip (which was really well executed) with the baked beans, based on suggestion of a regular next to me at the bar. No frills, just good beer and good food. Tbh I'm just bitter that my husband ordered better than me. He got the BLT. I got the pulled pork. We shared the nachos without any eat added. The pork was a little dry. It wasn't very smoky, either. I did like the bun it was served on and the sauce served with it, but I would have liked more sauce. Also, I thought the dressing on the coleslaw was bland; it just tasted like wet cabbage. The nachos were good. They're my husband's favorite; he loves the blue corn tortilla chips. I don't know. I'm just so bitter. On his BLT, the bacon was soooooo smoky. Wolverine has a wide selection of beers and good (mostly bbq-based) bar food. Everyone gets the nachos, which are great, especially with their pulled pork on top, but I wish they would spread the toppings out a little more- the lower layers of chips tend to be very dry and topping-less. They do include two giant scoops of guac on top though for no extra charge, which is more than you can say about a lot of places. The flights are a great way to try 4 of their many beers at once. They run $10 for 4 decent sized pours. But they also offer free samples of anything you'd like to try before committing to a pint. The parking lot is a little hidden, but there is a giant sign off the main road, so it's not too hard to find. Trivia on Wednesdays is great, but get there early if you want a table! read more

Let me preface this review by saying I LOVE the beer here. I love the vibe. I love most all of it. What I don't love is being ripped off.. I come here twice/month for trivia. It's always a good time. A few weeks back I noticed there was a new bartender whom I recognized from a previous place. In the past he had been extremely rude. No big deal, let bygones be bygones. I thought he was nicer - until I realized he was overcharging me today. Four times I ordered a 15 ounce beer (for me and one other person, side note) and every time I got a 12 ounce. At first I did not notice but my friend pointed it out. I thought it must be a mistake. For the fourth beer, I clearly enunciated 15 ounce, but I got a 12 ounce. I'm not going to cause a scene. I paid my tab, went back to my table and did the math, using their price board, four separate times. Every time the math worked out to: he charged me for 15 ounces but gave me 12. I don't know how this would/could benefit him. It's 75 cents extra per beer. That said, I'm really disappointed. Like I said, I'm not going to cause a scene over $3. But I don't want to be ripped off either.. I was hoping the server's attitude had changed since the last place but maybe not. I genuinely like Wolverine, their atmosphere, their beer and the rest. We have always loved getting the pork nachos for dinner and have done so for years - super yummy! This last time, though, when I made it home from picking up our nachos, the pork was missing. I called and the GM offered to refund the nachos, plus give us new pork nachos and a six-pack. It was a simple error that happened when the order was made. I've worked years in the service industry, it was busy that night, and this type of error happens on occasion. However, this level of GREAT service recovery is RARE. The beers are solid. All lager style so a little different from what most microbreweries are doing. The food is appetizing and perfect beer food. This is a place that is truly unique. You can have two people visit on two different nights and the opinions will be like they were never in the same place. But 99% of the time they will agree on the people who work have nearly perfect attitudes and the beer, not far behind. Travis, Dan, Allen and Tanya will usually be pouring. It's not uncommon for Oliver, the Brewmaster, to be out in the crowd mingling with the regulars. They're all equally awesome. If you crave a fancy umbrella drink or a fine glass of wine, then stay away. If instead, you're looking for a place to chill, have a seriously hand-crafty beer and play some quality foosball/darts, then Wolverine Tap Room will hit the g spot. (g=gulo gulo ... their soon-to-be-award-winding IPL) Some notes: Monday and Wednesday nights are trivia. Monday is a lighter crowd with Wednesday sometimes standing room only. Tuesday is the best night to enjoy the "living room" which is a fully comfy set of over-stuffed chairs and a couch arranged in a perfectly cozy part of the tap room. If you're looking for foosball action, Thursday is the night, almost every week, starting after 730pm. Music is pumped in via Pandora at an always comfortable db level. If you don't like what you're hearing, all it takes is a gentle suggestion and the folks behind the bar will let you pick it. I love this place! I stop here every time I'm back in the A2 for beer and food. This time I had a group of coworkers with me all hungry and thirsty after a cross country flight and a 2 hour drive ahead of us. A short jump off the freeway and here we go. I had about 8 people with me that ordered various lunch plates and beers. All were extremely satisfied and after reaching our destination, 2 hours away, they still wanted to go back to WSB for more. Was in on 7/18/20. Really enjoyed the beer! Loved all of the ambers and reds to choose from! Recommend them all! The food was great, until the food poisoning hit 8 hours later! The brisket and pulled pork were good. The smoked Mac and cheese was great, but boy, I think the culprit was the potato salad. Had a funny pink/red tint to the whole thing. The tables are topped with Michigan map sections which I thought was a nice touch. The beers we tried were pretty good, and they were moderately priced. I went the sampler route and tried a variety. They also sell chilled bottles and six packs to go. There is a small patio area out front for those looking to lounge around with friends and drink on some Wolverine goodness. read more

Great on-site brewed beers and ales. Excellent to be more precise. There's a perfect brew for every taste. When I am here in town I really enjoy coming here for the usual bevy of great live music and the tasty brews. A highlight of every other Tuesday (when the band is in town) is enjoying the perfect live Bluegrass sound of Lindsay Lou & the Flatbellys. If you've never heard (really good) Bluegrass live before or even think you might not like it...give them a listen when they are here. They are superb. Oh, yes..and the beer too. We walked in and I Fully expected more of a restaurant and a grander scale. So we almost walked out because we wanted dinner and it seemed more like a snack or happy hour lunch place. We decided to stay because it had such great reviews. So we found a table and went up to place an order. Yes people you have to walk up and place an order. There are no waiters to take an order but they do deliver the food. So we placed our orders and the food came out fairly quickly. I ordered the nachos and they were so good. I live in Texas And I didn't want to get nachos because I thought I would be disappointed. Boy was I wrong. These nachos are different. But they are so delicious. We also ordered the pretzel bites. We also ordered the sliders. I had this unique beer that was very fruity and had a reddish tent. I am not recalling offhand what the name was and I think they rotate beer so it's impossible to figure out which one this was. However, that beer was the most unique and flavorful fruity beer I've ever had. Everything we had here was just very good and Beyond my initial expectations. Three stars based upon first visit.... What I didn't like - parking - it was Monday, so the place was full! What I liked: - able to sample the beer - the pulled pork nacho The beer selection is great, just will need to make more visits to try many more of them... the indoor seating and bar area were full and busy, I don't know if Monday is a event night or not, but it was also busy... but we did order our food and got our drink and heated outside and was able to grab a table without any issues. Their pulled pork was excellent and loved the nacho! The pulled pork here was a lot better then many BBQ joints in Ann Arbor... I'll be back for more nacho and beers!!! read more

The main virtue of Wolverine's beers? Subtlety. Maybe that doesn't sound like a raving endorsement, but it's a good thing, and its something you can't say about every brewery. Wolverine, as you know from every previous review, specializes in lagers, and they certainly stretch the boundaries of the category. You'll find the basic golden, amber, and dark lagers that you see in a lot of places (and the Wolverine Dark is a 5-star beer in my book), but there are, at least over the course of the year, dozens of variations on these produced with different hops, flavorings, roasts, etc. There might be several pilsners, for instance, on the menu but each one will head in a slightly different direction tastewise. That's what I'm getting at by "subtlety." A few will be "eah," but at least some will be very good, and show you new ways in which a beer can be good. Which to me is one of a brewer's chief responsibilities. Many beers that people are used to drinking as ales--IPAs, porters, stouts, etc.--are made as lagers here, giving them a smoothness and body the standard versions lack. Not an absolute virtue (I do love a straight up IPA or porter), but an enjoyable twist on some favorites. Can't say I've been impressed with Wolverine's Gulo Gulo india pale lager, one of their flagship beers, but the black Gulo is a favorite. Their pumpkin beer is one of the best I've had, and in the spring I've always got my eye out for their baltic porter lager. Faustian stout, and Green Thumb pale lager are other favorites. The tap list is long and constantly rotating, so you may or may not see any of these (except the Gulo and the Wolverine Dark), but there will almost certainly be something you like in the mix. The food...I do miss the BYO food arrangement, but we liked the turkey and pulled pork sandwiches we've gotten there (actually the second time around the pulled pork was dry...but the first time still stands out as great BBQ). And it must be said: Wolverine has the best nachos in town, and seriously, I'd put them up against any on the planet. Stacked high with a wonderful salsa, perfect portions of guac and sour cream, and chips that don't lose their crunch. You can get the pulled pork on them, which I haven't done yet but is one of my culinary musts. Spacious but simple interior, a bit warehousey. Always appreciate the tables with Great Lakes nautical maps under the varnish. They start me conspiring weekend getaways. When you can only spare an hour or two to get away, Wolverine is worth a stop. read more

I really love this place for the beer, food, and friendly bartenders. I'll start with the beer. They brew exclusively lagers, which for many people initially sounds like a bad thing. However, lagers are not as limited as many people think they are. Wolverine State does a wonderful job of showcasing all that lagers can offer, from the light (stereotypical) lager to the dark lagers, IPLs, barrel aged, sour. There's so much variety and they brew some wonderful beer! The food is delicious. Many wonderful sandwiches to choose from, but also some great burritos and stellar nachos. They smoke the meat in-house and it is really amazing! Plus, it's great food to pair with beer. The ambiance is definitely a sports bar, which can be a good or bad thing. It's really fun, though! The bartenders are super friendly and helpful. It does get pretty packed during major games, so be warned. But it really is a great brewery! read more
