I have never been disappointed with this place, and the entire Wolfies Team are wonderful. So you got great food, and great service. They seem to really understand their clients. They seem strong even with all the freaking street work being done around them. I wish them well. The only thing I can say that I don't like, is the way the parking lot is. I wish they would open up that alley so people can get out safer. Both sides put you on crazy Peterson and it's a dangerous crossing, or they should buy that abandoned gas station next door to them and make it for parking. other then that, it's a great place to go. After hearing about this place for nearly a year I was very happy to not be disappointed. The service wasn't amazing (or friendly at that) but the hotdog was delicious and the place felt clean and inviting for a quick stop. My dog came with everything and I ordered some fries (slightly bland- needed salt) but overall I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. Wolfy's is possibly my favorite hot dog place in Chicago. I live around the corner from Byron's and I feel disloyal saying it, but... so be it. I've always loved the snap that the Wolfy's dog has. I don't know what animal pieces or technique gives the hot dog a snap but I don't care... it's just delicious. They have those skinny fries that I like because they come out crispy and stay crispy. This place screams traditional, old school, Chicago hot dog stand, and they have the food to back it up. We decided to get cheeseburgers with everything and cheese fries. The burgers were way bigger than I expected. The buns held up to the toppings. And, honestly, this was the first time in a long time that I didn't need to pick half the toppings off a burger Let me explain. I usually order burgers with everything, but when they come to the table they end up having thick slices of under ripe tomatoes, huge leaves of wilted lettuce, stringy onions and soggy pickles. So, it quickly becomes a burger with cheese, ketchup, and mustard. Not at Wolfy's. Wolfy's does toppings right, although I did take off one tomato slice, because 2 was too much for me. But the pickles were delicious and crispy. The grilled onions were perfect. And the shredded letuce was just the right amount. The fries are basic, but hot and crispy. I've driven by this place almost everyday since I moved to Andersonville and I always wondered what it was like... and one day, a couple of weeks ago, I decided to go in. This unassuming and no-bells-no-whistles place serves hamburgers and hot dogs. Their fries are fresh-cut and done to perfection, their hamburgers are juicy and their hot dogs really good. Service was very prompt and courteous. Our order was taken pretty fast and our food served expeditiously. The place is clean, well lit and, as I mentioned, with no bells or whistles. It doesn't matter, because this is one of those places where you go in and out. Wolfy's, as I understand it, has been a staple in Chicago for 50 years or so. That's a long time to be in business! And if they were not doing something right, they would have closed a long time ago. They even have "anniversary" t-shirts if you want to get one. HA! I'm thinking of getting one myself... It was my first time ordering here and I was kind of lost meaning with the menu. If you want to eat like a monkey with hand , go ahead. No utensils offered. However they messed up my order and when I approached to the counter to ask questions about it no one bothered to say anything. I get it they were busy and they had other people to serve but when a client that already took their order and is approaching to you again and you do not even say a word but even when you talk to them they ignore you. I love these restaurants with big food statues--the hot dogs on Superdawg, the Big Chicken in front of White Fence Farm, etc. I've seen the big grilling fork and hot dog for years, but never stopped by. And now glad we found a chance to stop in! It's your typical fast food joint, there's lots of seating (booth and window tables) and two TV's that had the Cubs game on the day we visited. You order at the counter and they call you when your food is ready. Between my son and I, we split the 2 hot dog special that comes with fries and a drink. Adding in a chocolate shake, it was a pretty affordable (cheap!) meal. There's beef, burgers, gyro, chicken, salads, chili to round out the rest of the menu. I liked my hot dog. Had it done up Chicago style, minus the sport peppers. The hot dog had a good snap to it. But the bun was soggy so it kind of fell apart. Although the fish sandwich I have to say it was so delicious and crunchy way better than McDonald's fish fillet. I ordered the tartar sauce on the side which was the best decision because I don't like a Soggy Sandwich and their tartar sauce was tasty. they have good quality melted cheese for the fries and the fries aren't the best but they're pretty good. Always a neat experience, my husband and I ended up on the travel channel during one of our Wolfy's runs! Wish they had coke instead of Pepsi, but that's just personal preference. If given a choice, I'd have gotten a Chicago-style hot dog, french fries and a chocolate shake. However, I lived vicariously through our Cheeseburger Cartel as they devoured their fast(ish) food meal with little complaint. We rolled up with 5 kids and 3 adults and left fairly stuffed for $55. Around $6 for a combo meal with a little bit 'o' local to overpower the Big Macs and Whoppers. Lots of indestructible seating. Cubs playing on a TV in one corner. Sox in the other. Gyros on the offer. A Greek Salad for me (wheeee!), plenty of salty french fries, a few chicken sandwiches, and a whole buncha burgers. A semi-friendly dude at the counter that didn't blink an eye at our motley crew. Credit card acceptance. $2.50 for 5 kids refills (booo!). Wipe up. Roll out. read more

And another. And another. And another. I was thinking about a fifth, but that didn't pan out unfortunately. I seriously think the best grease joints are by middle schools or high schools. Wolfy's will always bring back childhood memories for this yelper. I grew up in the area, so going to Wolfy's was a reward for doing good or a special treat (we didn't go very often... what can I say, I was a baaaad boy). Back in the day, I remember it was hard to get a seat on the weekends, they used to fill up so fast. Parents and children stuffing their faces full of hot dogs, gyros, beef sandwiches, burgers, and fries. You could even get an ice cream or a cookie afterward. They were keeping the North side children fat, happy, and more importantly quiet for the parents. Throughout the years I've driven by and stopped on occasion, still seeing families enjoy themselves. But sadly there are a LOT less people. The staff is kind of cranky sometimes but eventually you'll get a smile and a thanks for coming out from them. Round out the whole experience with old school plastic seats and a Chicago sports team on the tv. If this place doesn't scream Chicago I don't know what does. They aren't the healthiest but they sure do it that spot! read more

Either you are of the Gene & Jude's, Jimmy's, ... type or of the Fluky's, Wolfy's, ... type. Then you have the "dragged through the garden" places that are on steroids, what, lettuce, raw green peppers and cucumber slices? You can have your GQ Lord Byron and the Mr. eSteamed Murphy's. And finally, foie Doug's is certainly a psychedelic experience with Jim's Original doing the Maxwell St. thang. I'm of the Wolfy's type and the only type that I can't stand is the "through the garden on steriods." The menu has expanded over the years, it has kept up with the times/competition. A very dependable clean place and you may question some of the items, nobody's perfect. The Green River in bottles, got to love that. The thing that keeps me coming back is the almost always perfect application of the Chicago Seven. The smell of the simmering Vienna's hit you as soon as you come in the door, majestic. Watch it prepared in front of your eyes less than a foot away. I remember when you couldn't even sit down in the place and now, not only can you sit down, you can also catch a game while your eating. If you really want to eat outside, I guess you could walk over to a park bench at Mather and maybe catch a softball game. No drive-thru, got to get your butt out of the car. The hot dogs and fries are excellent road snacks, and much better than any of the fast food fare you'll find at an oasis food court. I had heard about Wolfy's from a bunch of longtime northside residents and they usually recounted their childhood memories of the restaurant with the fond tone reserved for descriptions of favorite home-cooked meals. It's a neighborhood haunt and a summer staple along the lines of the diner in American Graffiti. I drive past that giant hot dog on a daily basis. At night it lights up like a vegas grease pit. Today I finally found a few minutes to pull in. Ordered a 2 hot dog special (2A numerically). I usually don't ask for much in a chicago style hot dog as long as it's not soggy and as long as it doesn't have ketchup on it. It was done pretty well. No complaints here. Mustard, neon green relish, onion, tomato slices, big thick pickle spear. Hotdog didn't have much snap to it, but it wasn't like tire rubber. The only problem was the price. The special was more than $6. The same combo at most places would be more like $4. The menu looked pretty standard for a hot dog place. They also had the usual burgers, gyros. I heard the cheese fries are pretty good. I'll have to sample some for myself some other day. And although I had cash on me at the time, I was delighted to see an ATM inside. read more

A Chicago landmark if you would want to say. Naturally I had to try it. I never in my life thought I would go CRAZY over a Hot Dog. This was truly the best, tastiest, most delicious Hot Dog I ever had. The North side truly has the best Hot Dog joints around. The tomatoes, onions, hot peppers, relish etc. were all fresh. On a recent visit to Chicago we sampled several hot dog establishments. I thought Wolfy's was the best of the bunch. Classic dog with all the required elements - Vienna beef, poppyseed bun, unnatural colored relish, sport peppers, celery salt, etc. Good fries too. My wife preferred Gene's and Jude's, but I disqualified them for lack of poppy seeds and relish that looked too conventional in color (but they were good). We both placed Wolfy's above Mustard's Last Stand. Wolfy's is also clean and bright, with comfortable booths and ample parking. Prices are good too. read more
