I first came to Wolfy's when I first moved to Chicago and I have been coming here ever since on my way to and from the suburbs. Perfect place to grab a quick bite and a great Chicago icon that has been around since 1967. I really enjoy their hot dogs, cheeseburgers, and fries. Everything is fresh and made to order. Also, the staff are really nice. Recently, I ordered their #1, which is a cheeseburger, fries, and a Pepsi. The cheeseburgers are huge! But, they are so juicy and good. It's a brioche bun with caramelized onions, flame grilled burger, cheese, two thick slices of tomatoes, lettuce, mustard, and ketchup. Everything works perfectly together. The fries are thin, hot, salted, and crispy. Wash everything down with a cold, freshing Pepsi. I would love to come back and try a shake. I'll be back soon! read more

If I was looking for a hot dog place to take someone from out of town to show them what a chicago dog was like I would take them to Wolfy's. I appreciate the way they run the back kitchen with the register operator calling out the orders and you get a generic bag when your number is called. My favorite is to get a two dog special. It is about $10. I don't have to ask for what I want they come chicago style. NO ketchup! Fries are nice and crispy lightly salted. What more do you need. Dining space and parking are limited. We were hungry and we needed a bathroom. We found Wolfy's on our drive and stopped in to satisfy both needs. What a yummy discovery! These guys don't fool around. Step up, speak up, and move on. This hot dog stand is pure Chicago. They've been here for 50+ years. Vienna Hotdogs with a casing that snaps! Hot dogs AND buns served fresh from a steam table. This place really went down hill as far as the food. I used to work here years ago and the food was great. My favorite was the grill chicken sandwich and they had awesome cheese fries. Now the fries are hard and just don't taste the same. The chicken sandwich was meh. It seems they cheaped out, the quality is not there anymore. I do not recommended anymore. read more

It was a pleasant surprise to come back to Wolfy's after 20 years and realize that yes, they do make foods other than hotdogs with ketchup. Stop gagging, Chicagoans, that's the only kind of hotdog I would eat when I was 5-10 years old. I've become so much wiser since then: I get my ketchup dogs at Costco for a buck fifty. In reality, though, we ordered a plethora of things and everything was delicious. My jumbo char dog (which passed the Chicago Hotdog Authority's inspection with everything on it), my wife's gyros, and my daughter's corn dog were all great. The gyros in particular were way better than I remembered, probably because I don't remember ordering anything other than a plain hotdog (I'm low-key mad at my younger self for denying us these flavors). Seriously though, what a sublime mix of tender, juicy meat and crispy texture. Sadly, they no longer hand out the (sometimes spicy, if I recall correctly?) hotdog shaped gum, which is a memory I'd hoped to pass on to my kids. And thankfully my daughter 1) didn't get a hot dog, and 2) no one mentioned picking the poppy seeds off the bun, which my dad used to do for my sister and I. That annoying tradition isn't one I want to pass on...especially since I'll be the one doing the extra labor That aside, I can recommend making Wolfy's a tradition. The jumbo char dog is awesome! The malts are pretty good too. Don't bother with the burger, super thin, smaller than a McD's burger and more expensive... so again, don't bother with the burger. Stopped here for a Grecian chicken sandwich. Chicken was tender and nicely seasoned, though not enough of it. Sandwich was mostly shredded lettuce. Pita was fresh and warm. Guy at the register never said a word to me - not a hello, not a thank you, nothing - except for telling me how much I owed. It ain't gourmet but it's fast, it's typical and will fill the belly on demand. (Sometimes when it's busier, you might notice a box of frozen something that was left out.) Wolfy's has always been known for their great signage. A large two-pronged fork with a sausage. Their red hots are Vienna beef hot dogs and they are prepared Chicago style. But are they so great that there is a reason to come and try it? Hardly. If wanting to get a tasty encased meat, try the char-grilled Polish with all the trimmings. You'll find some flavors there. My sister and I are big people so it only fits just us and my 5 year old. Memu is reasonably priced; there are combos and specials that wont leave a whole in your pocket. Aw, Wolfy's. Hot dog place of my youth. I can still remember the coupons they handed out to kids at Clinton School over 20 years ago. Don't even try to figure out how old I am 'cause I'm quite sad about it-trust me. The ever so familiar wolf symbol in bright neon lights that welcome you on Peterson was like a siren's call of sorts and it finally brought me back in again. Parking is kind of scary if you don't get in that parking lot quick so be hasty about it! I yearn for the classic Chicago hot dog. Wolfy's has just the right amount of sport peppers, right size tomatoes and of course, S. Rosen's buns. Thank you for doing it right Wolfy's. They also have the hot dog gum sticks which is fantastic and reminiscent of my youth again. They wrap it up in butcher paper and hand it over promptly with my usual side of cheese fries. Good hot gardiara the only this missed is provaline cheese, as opposed to mozzarella which is their cheese option. Also it is a Pepsi place, which I think is meh. Vienna beef w/ a natural casing, bright green relish, onions, tomatoes, sport peppers, celery salt, and a big kosher pickle to top everything off. I came looking for an excellent dog and they delivered. I also noticed they serve Dr. Browns soda along with Green River. Always a good time. Bottom line, one of the best dogs I've had a long time. So was on my way back to Chicago and hot as hell on a 92 Deg day so decided to stop for a cool drink and a bite and then I saw the Wolfy's sign Glad I choose to try this place out One of the best gyros have had in a while! The meat is thinly sliced and the Tzatziki sauce pieces of cucumbers in it, the pita was so hot from the grill I had to wait for it to cool a little before I could pick it up to eat, I love when steam is rising off my sammich I asked for a large pink lemonade and it looked like I was at 7-11 the drink was like a super big gulp must go back and try some other stuff for sure and the bathroom is clean big plus :) read more
