Don't order calamari - overcooked dry bread-crumby... just sad

Nice fast service, ambiance not bad for union station. Not sure about the food. Whatever you do, don't take order calamari. Union Station calamari is the equivalent of a gas station sushi I am afraid. It's overcooked dry bread-crumby... just sad

First of all, I'll start up by saying that this is a biased review. I love Wolfgang Puck. I still mourn the fact that it's no longer in the Denver airport. I was at Union Station one evening to meet a friend who had a two hour layover at Union Station. The train ended up being about an hour and a half late. I had to kill time. I asked red cap guys, "Where can a girl get a drink?" They directed me to this bar on the second floor at the end. I would never have found it on my own. It was really packed when I arrived. But there were some seats. I got a seat in order to drink. Service was great. The drink was great. It was the perfect time pass. Putting this place in the regular rotation for future train trips. Would like to try food next time too.

Not the best, the food was its only saving grace. According to our server, they only sold Pepsi. Not Pepsi products, just Pepsi. A conversation with the bartender said no they have Pepsi products, but she could only name three, regular, Dr Pepper, and something called sky wave. Speaking of the bar, looking at the bottles, a good selection of bourbons, tequilas, mid to high shelf. It's tucked away in a corner on the third floor. If you're forced to take the elevator, you'll be walking through service corridors. The Service not great. Its worse than at an airport lounge. This was all before we got our food, or drinks, which also took a while. It's marketed as a sit down but if you're not at the bar it's a very underwhelming experience. Expected better. There was also a surcharge for using your card. The WP Burger was good. Well done. Two patties. I didn't change anything about it, and I actually liked it. The potato chips were good, not hard crisp, a little moist. The pork sliders were also delicious. Actually, just the right size for a meal for one person. Overall, this place needs better management. Better allocation of resources, training, and knowledge. A lot could be improved by just the presence of a host or hostess. Someone that sat each person so that people didn't just wander in and look around to sit down at a table. They need to elevate their game. Now...about that receipt... Who is TAIL WIND?!

Had a stop at Union Station. This place is on the 2nd floor, right up the escalator. I believe my waitress name was Erica, or E. She was really nice. I had the crispy chicken handheld $18. It was good, but even better with buffalo sauce on the side. Fries were okay. IPA was refreshing $8

I came here with a coworker after work. Wolfgang Puck Bar & Bites is located on the second level of Union Station (on the Uniqlo side, where the old Legal Sea Foods used to be). Sadly, there are no happy hour deals (I love a good happy hour deal). Even without a happy hour, the bar was plenty busy after work - with limited bar service options inside Union Station, this place fits the bill for a place to grab a drink waiting for a train, etc. We found two seats at the bar. There were hooks underneath to hang a small bag. Ambiance was nice. It's pretty casual, but being in the upstairs section, it's a little more secluded to get you away from the hustle and bustle at a transit hub. There was music playing and tv screens showcasing Wolfgang Puck's other restaurants. They also had a small display of his cookbooks, wine, and apron available for purchase. I was debating between the sliders ($15) and the WP Burger ($20). Both were similar, but the WP burger comes with a garlic aioli spread and a side of chips plus a pickle vs. two small sliders... I opted for the larger burger. It was made quickly and sure was tasty! They offer add-ons - avocado ($3), fried egg ($3), and bacon ($4). All they need now are some fried onions as a topper and then I would be one happy camper. It is a bar, so bar service is to be expected, but service was a little scattered. After we placed our orders for food and drinks, the server asked again later if we wanted to order any drinks. We had to remind her of what we ordered. The burger add-ons were also keyed in incorrectly. Despite asking for the fried egg and avocado on the burger, we got a burger with a fried egg and bacon instead (which was what was keyed in at the register and sent to the kitchen). When we pointed it out, an avocado was brought out on the side, but when it was time to review the bill, we saw that a higher priced avocado toast was added to the check, IN ADDITION to the higher-priced and wrongly added bacon. Initially, we were going to ask for the bill to be corrected, but the server vanished for a period. Ultimately, we decided to accept the bill as presented to get out of there timely. Note: if you pay with credit card, they add a 2% surcharge. I did enjoy the burger. The meat was nicely seasoned (it came with two patties) and expertly built overall. The white cheddar, onion jam, and garlic aioli on brioche were delicious together, and the burger held up well without falling apart. They even cut the lettuce in a circular shape to match the shape of the bun. My only change would be to add a pickle inside (yes, they serve a pickle spear on the side, but it's not the same). The burger was served with house-made chips which had a good crunch and were heavily seasoned with salt and pepper. You can also substitute for fries for a $2 upcharge. I also ordered the Cherry Sunrise mocktail ($8). They did have a Cherry Blossom cocktail ($16), but it must've been a popular item for the season, because they were out. I didn't care for my mocktail. I like a sweet drink, and the Cherry Sunrise (pineapple juice, lemon juice, soda, and Sprite) wasn't very cherry and wasn't very sweet. It mostly tasted like watered down pineapple juice with cherries sunken at the bottom. It was also foamy on top which didn't add anything. I would say the experience was 3.5 stars overall, but I'll round up for that burger (highly recommend the burger!).

Server was attentive and the food was good! Burger was juicy and fries were crispy and seasoned perfectly. Old school R&B playlist was a vibe. I miss Uno pizzeria but this is nice to have as an option in Union Station.

The dark warm mood lighting, the corrugated wall, the intimate seating, and of course the small share plates makes for the sexy experience tapas is suppose to be! It is typical of Spanish flavors, heavily relying on high-end cured meats and cheeses, and classics such as croquetas. There is something very special that goes into tapas because its suppose to satisfy you based on good taste over quantity. Large shrimp in a generous skillet of olive oil and slow cooked garlic slices and a iberico mac and cheese are some examples of how they elevate classics we are familiar with. We really liked that they learned into garlic and spice. We found dried Aji Caballero in our meal, great attention to source country. They have a very robust and generous drinks menu. Loved watching others not dining alone and embracing that share quality of the menu design. Perhaps it is not the best tapas I had, I would have liked to see a balance with lighter citrus flavors but maybe that was an ordering issue. At some point, since the menu heavily leans towards rich and decadent, its better to plan around that. Our waitress was amazing, she explained the questions we had on the ingredients and was on it with the refills.

After having a full meal with cocktails, appetizer, entree, dessert and coffee (about $70 per person), I concluded that Atxondo will be a definite future destination for Happy Hour and light bites, but that my full meal dining dollars will be spent elsewhere. The Patatas Bravas (Fingerling Potatoes) were outstanding, with their two tasty sauces and rich, crispy flavor and texture. The Hibiscus Margarita with its salt and tajín rim was good enough to warrant a second one... but the Sangria was lackluster due to the complete absence of cut-up fresh fruit in my glass. The "Crispy Duck Breast" is no longer served whole, but sliced on a bed of sauteed kale... and, sadly, seemed to be only a shadow of its former self. The Lamb Meatballs suffered from being mushy (a coarser grind would have made a world of difference in the texture) and lacked that meaty exuberance one treasures in any kind of meatball. My serving of Basque Cheesecake was almost comically tiny (at $9 per serving, perhaps not so funny after all). But my cup of Americano came out of the espresso machine strapping strong and piping hot, with a gorgeous head of natural crema from the oil of the coffee beans. So I will definitely return for a future Happy Hour to devour the outstanding Patatas Bravas and sip the good Margaritas, and to try the bargain Manchego Burger and other Happy Hour bites. For serious dining, Atxondo falls short of the mark... but for drinks and bar food, Atxondo turns out to be a real neighborhood gem. .

Frankly, for the price it didnt seem like enough for our group of 6. Also, there were 2-3 flies around our table before we sat down. The food service was extremely disorganized. Some guests never received their meals, while others received meals they didn't order. As the birthday girl, I had to intervene when an argument developed between the waitress and one of my guests over a bowl of potatoes. The waitress insisted my guest had already received them, but she had not. My guest was so hungry from waiting that she eventually began eating from another guest's plate. Honestly, who's going to lie about not receiving a bowl of potatoes during a Saturday brunch? My own omelette was not tasty, and I did not care for the white sauce, although the potatoes were good. The mimosas were good as well, except for the hibiscus flavor. We spent over $800 for our party of 13, yet several guests left without receiving their correct meals. We ultimately went next door to Matchbox so everyone could eat and continue the birthday celebration. This restaurant has a dining room that is as beautiful and impressive as any in DC. The architecture of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel (the Old Post Office Pavilion) is stunning. The crystal chandeliers shimmer, the furnishings are top notch, fancy even. The atmosphere could not be better. Likewise the food shines. Each dish outshone the one before. We started with the oxtail croquettes and they set the standard very high. The meat was luscious, luxurious even; the crust was perfectly crispy and crunchy. Then on to the she-crab soup. OMG it was to die for. The flavor was intense, like a crab bomb exploded in our mouths. We scraped the sides of the little bowls to get every drop. Our main dish was the beef tenderloin Rossini and this was easily among the best steaks I have ever had. Cutting the steak was easy because it was so tender. And the seared foie gras on top made it heavenly. So, to keep with my opening concept, the atmosphere of the dining room and the quality of the food were "the best of times." What was "the worst of times?" The service. It is hard to imagine food this good coming from a staff that is so unprofessional, uninspired, uninterested, unfocused. The staff - all of them - seemingly had no interest in providing top notch service. We waited to be approached. We waited for our drinks. We waited for our food; indeed, one of our courses never arrived. Never have I had such great food and such bad service all at the same time. Ronny was our waiter and, to be honest, he was not good. But everyone who we interacted with was bad so, I can only conclude, that this terrible service is what Jose Andres intended. And all of this at a meal that is VERY expensive. My spouse and I talked about the pricing. When you dine out, are you paying for the food only, or for the food and the service? The answer, of course, is that you are paying for both. So, while I do NOT mind paying a lot for a meal, I do want and expect that the food and the service will be somewhat equivalent to the price I have paid. At Bazaar Meat, that did not happen. Maybe the service lacked polish and professionalism because of the 20% tip that was automatically added onto the bill. They did not have to work hard for a tip since it was automatic. Sure, you could decrease the tip - it even said that at the bottom of the credit card slip. But would you ever do that? Not likely. So, that is my "A Tale of Two Cities" review of Bazaar Meat. Food and atmosphere, GREAT! Service, TERRIBLE! Do I recommend Bazaar Meat? No. Will I return? No.
