First visit in a few years: -- Salt and Pepper Wings: Small, fried, seasoned, and unsauced, with jalapeños and such for assistance. Decent tenderness and moistness, but light on flavor without the jalapeño and a little bland despite the name. -- General Tso Wings: One fewer wing, but much larger ones, with a sweet, thick sauce, good crunch, and decent moisture underneath. No heat to counter the sweet, but that's the case for most General Gao or Tso these days. Still very solid. -- Teriyaki Salmon: Lunch special with choice of salad or soup, choice of Rangoons or gyoza, and choice of white or fried rice. The salmon itself was sensible of size, but dry inside and topped with a gloppy sweet sauce that helped the dryness but not the cause. The gyoza were small and most likely frozen. Overall, seems like going to an Olive Garden that happens to be serving Asian cuisine. I've been a few times before, with similar thoughts (and half the coworkers I've gone with agree, and half love it). Pleasant enough, and easy street parking, but I don't see myself rushing back. Maybe sushi is the way to go.

The food itself is just acceptable, and for the price not great. The atmosphere also still is pretty weak, and the restaurant is small. It's sort of almost like a hole on the wall. On the West Coast, I've eaten at over 30 authentic Japanese restaurants, and for those of you who aren't Japanese restaurant or sushi aficionados... This food is probably fine. If you know we're good, Japanese food is, don't come here and frankly you may need to drive to Boston to get it.

Each component seemed carefully considered, contributing to a bowl that was both balanced and deeply satisfying. Perhaps the most unexpected highlight was the marinated egg. I've never been particularly enthusiastic about the soft-boiled eggs that accompany ramen, but this one was exceptional. The yolk was perfectly cooked, with a silky, almost custard-like consistency, while the pronounced soy flavor suggested a generous amount of time spent marinating. It was a small detail that spoke volumes about the kitchen's attention to preparation. The one reservation is the price. At roughly $18 to $19 for a basic bowl, with additional ingredients priced separately, Kinzen is somewhat more expensive than I anticipated, particularly for a casual suburban ramen shop. Still, when the cooking is this accomplished, the price becomes a secondary consideration. Kinzen is an unexpected find in MetroWest, serving ramen that could comfortably hold its own against offerings from more established urban kitchens. A welcome reminder that good food doesn't always require a trip into the city.

I came here blind without checking reviews. I got crab rangoons, eel & avo roll, and spicy tuna roll. The crab rangoons were nothing special. The sushi was terrible. The rice was overly sweet, and made up 90% of the rolls. The tiny bit of fish inside had an off color. I only ate a few pieces before I couldn't eat anymore and then I got sick. I ate the 3 huge(but tasteless) shrimp and the few pieces of chicken that I could find in this mess, a little of the nasty noodles and left the rest. I was going to request sauce and some form of heat to try to make it more palatable, but unfortunately the only time that I saw my server after he delivered my dinner was when he brought the check. I overheard a nearby table extolling the virtues of their Chinese dinners, so maybe their other food is better and I just ordered the wrong entree. But, I will have a whole year to determine if I want to try something else on my next trip, or just write this place off. Let the buyer beware!
