We've been going to Wok Cafe for years. It's mostly a take out joint ( not very fancy) and the food was great. Good size portions, great prices . However over the last couple of years it's been going down. We finally decided after ordering the other day that it's our last time patronizing this business. Food doesn't taste nice anymore, ( even the steamed rice seeming to be old and hard -- recycled) small portions and really over inflated greedy pricing. More onions and veggies to hide lacknof meat and chicken and take out orders packaged so you can't check the bag and missing stuff. Don't know if it's new owners or not, but I can no longer recommend this place. Luckily we have lots of other options, but we will miss our good old Wok Cafe go to spot. So sad. read more

So, I came in this evening to pickup an order and I haven't been there in a long time. Although I was picking good up, looking around I didn't feel like I would like sitting down inside the restaurant. Just didn't feel nice. Service seems fine and the food is cheap. I was missing mushrooms when told I would have it in my meal. The taste of the food isn't the best but it's okay for the cost of it. This is a family run business and when you enter you are usually greeted with sweetness and hospitality. The menu is huge with a wide range of flavours from different areas of Asia. I come to this restaurant often and have still not tried all of their dishes. They have family style tables so large groups are welcome but I recommend reservations as it can get really busy I highly recommend the dishes in my photos since they are sharable, traditional and very flavourful. read more

I was really looking forward to try this restaurant. I Ordered the shrimp with lobster sauce. Some panfried dumplings and general Tao. general Tao was ok...just ok ..the dumplings and shrimp in lobster sauce were tasteless the shrimp was very small and very few. The rice was undercooked. It was the first time we had ever tried this Chinese food place (Thank gosh for Uber eats) and it is absolutely delicious. We live right next to a restaurant that offers the same food but it doesn't taste half as good. I think Wok Cafe will be our new go to for Chinese. We ordered the special that feeds four people, when there was three of us. We obviously had leftovers, which I'm so glad we did because I couldn't stop craving it afterwards. Chicken fried rice, delicious beef, general tao chicken were my favorites. We also got general tao fried shrimp, which was good but not the best. Wonton soup, peanut butter dumplings... broccoli, chicken and shrimp pasta... it was all amazing. The special was about $50-$60 so when split between 3-4 people is an amazing price. We definitely recommend trying Wok Cafe at least once to see for yourselves! read more

I was looking for good general tao and as per google this was the place so I decided to give it a try. The place was clean and the staff very friendly. The menu is huge so took a while to check everything out. We took one general tao combo, one szechuan shrimp and tried some dim sum. The general tao was good but not the best I had for sure but the szechuan shrimp was awful. The plate was covered in sauce and the shrimp were so blend no taste at all. The combo came with a wonton soup and it was ok but again the broth needed a little more seasoning. The dim sum took about 20 min to come and they were ok but a strong taste of citronella kind of ruined it for me. The size of the plates was decent and the prices were actually really good. We have been coming to this restaurant for years. The quality of the food is poor but the prices are low. My group of friends like it so I go along with the majority. We were there at 6:30 PM yesterday Sept 6th 2022. They were busy with takeout. From what I was told the wait was more than an hour. We were 8 at our table. A man came over to us and rather than just saying there is going to be a delay told us, "see all the people in line, if you don't like it, get out". He was very abrupt and nasty. Have ordered from there 4 times now, and the quality is consistent. The vegetables are fresh, dishes cooked properly and not over cooked, and good quantity for the price. Delivery time is acceptable, considering the delivery coverage (quite a bit). Steamed rice is a little too sticky, but still good. Will continue to order and visit in person soon. read more

Quantity over quality. Not at all authentic! Having been to Wok cafe quite a few times in this particular location, my last meal there was nothing more than an absolute disappointment. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon around 2:45pm for lunch time. We were famished. When I say "we" I meant three of us. Not at all a large group. The restaurant was rather quiet with four other tables being occupied, aside from ours. Each table had 2-3 client. For our meal, we ordered vegetable fried rice and sweet & sour pork. Nothing complicated or elaborated, right? That's what I thought. However.. 45 minutes later, our order has not been served to any of us. That's right, 45 minutes! Keep in mind, the tables around us who arrived after we did, were already served and eating. How are we still waiting?! I politely asked our waiter.. What happened to our food? He responded "We don't prepare food according to the order the orders are placed, we do it in a random order" We apologize. Also our cook were on break for 10 minutes. That's right.. While we were famished and waiting, they were chatting on their break. Finally our meals have arrived! Was a I happy now? Absolutely not. General Tao chicken was lukewarm. The "sticky" rice, was far from the authentic sticky rice any Chinese household would eat. The grains were tough, under cooked, and not sticky. The General Tao chicken had 90% batter with 10% of meat. The batter was tasty, yet drenched in a artificial tasting sauce, that tasted more dessert like, of how sweet it is. Luckily, the vegetable fried rice was descent, then again it's rice with frozen veggies. No, they were not fresh veggies. They simply used the frozen mix of peas and carrots among other things. Mixed with a unnecessary large amount of salty soy sauce. Cafe Work is mainly a place that focuses on reasonable prices(Inexpensive) with large amounts of foods, that do not focus at all on quality nor freshness. Much less authenticity. A little helpful fact that I will share with you! How do you know if a Chinese restaurant is authentic and good? Once you arrive, if you see most tables being occupied by Asians, that's an excellent sign! It means that they will eat there because it's as good as they would eat at their own home from meals their parents prepared them. It's traditional! Cafe Wok is far from being traditional, it has a much stronger taste of your typical Americanized non Asian meals. I'd say, steer away from Cafe Work(Either location) and take a little short drive to China Town. That's where you're most likely to find good quality, authentic, fresh, and warm food served to you. We got 4 soups excuse me 4 tepid water with 2 wontons each definitely no broth at all in there. Fried rice, no, rice with a bit of soya sauce to colour it with 3 minuscule pieces of chicken at the bottom THAT'S NOT FRIED RICE, dried up ribs at least 3 days old, tough and over cooked, a very small container of wontons in peanut sauce. Wontons overcooked in a diluted peanut butter sauce...yuck, plain fried noodles that was supposed to be chicken chow mein, NO WAY, no veggies no sauce, no good. A good place to get your North American Chinese food fix. They also have an extensive list of authentic Chinese dishes that are very good. Having visited Wok Café's other locations, their food is good and consistent. At this particular visit, I came for their lunch special - $8.95 for hot and sour soup, and General Tao chicken served with white rice and vegetables (brocoli and Napa cabbage). The soup had just the right amount of sour and kick to it. It was thick (because of cornstarch?), and loaded with pieces of tofu, egg and bamboo shoots. The General Tao pieces were large, chunky, and hard, but, don't worry, there were indeed chicken in there! The sauce was thick (again, assuming because of corn starch) and was syrup-y. I liked it; it satisfied my craving. The staff that afternoon was courteous and conscientious. The restaurant is clean, and the kitchen is in an open area. I recommend this place; this is my go-to place for authentic Chinese food on the West Island. read more

Absolutely the best dumpling place in the west island! My husband and I go every single week for their amazing Dim Sum, the spicy sauce and mustard are fabulous with it. I'd call this place a little hidden gem on the west island. It's next to Starbucks between des Sources and Marche de l'Ouest. I order some dimsun dishes, sea food and veggies. They are all very fresh and tasty. The fried beancurd are crispy on the outside and tender inside. There's so much more on the menu I'll have to come back to try other dishes. We were loyal customers since it opened as we recognized the waitstaff from KamFung on Hymus where we were dim sum regulars. It was the best/most familiar 'Cote des Neiges style' food we ever found in the West Island. We were extremely lucky to have this place at the time. We've done take out, supper, early weekend lunch and everything even service was excellent. We went for supper on a weeknight, (May 22 or 23) and did not recognized the waitstaff. Our 'servers' were just dressed in jeans and didn't even know how to serve soup to the table. I have a feeling these are the new owners as they provided very unprofessional table service. We were even asked if we'd like tea when that is a given in a Chinese resto. We noticed much smaller portions even though we ordered 'family style' for the table, the fried dumplings were old and brown and we couldn't even order a large bowl of rice for the table... again don't get me started on having to ladle soup out myself. We noticed there were a lot more deliveries being made through one of those delivery companies so maybe that explains no waitstaff.
